I'm surprised at the reaction Byrne's getting.

I think he's got all of the attributes of a good footballer at this level except for his height, which is definitely an issue for a defender in a league where half the teams pump it long, but which was still not enough of a factor to prevent Paul Caddis going onto play in that position at an even higher level by making up for it with his other attributes.

I don't know if anyone remembers how shocking he looked when he first came: lightweight, small, nervous on the ball. If you compare like for like, Byrne's performances have been streets ahead of what we initially saw of him.

Having said all that, I'm dubious about whether a six figure sum, for a player who's first choice position is already taken by someone he is unlikely to displace except through injury, is a sensible use of funds in the current circumstances (if the six figure sum isn't just spin).

I think you have it right footballing wise, he has potential and improved with us. But 6 figures good, really?

Meh, K-Mac presumably thinks he's worth it, and he's probably spotted a few more players than most of us!

Seeing as we're going to be fielding all these youngsters this season i urge everyone to watch Clark Carlise's depression programme on BBC3/iplayer.
Compelling and will hopefully make a few fans think twice before booing the team that's going to go through up and downs this season

Tough viewing at times but a helluva insight into the psyche of some footballers.

You can imagine the damage some of our throwaway heckles may cause to a sensitive young player

Probably only signed him so the Swindon faithful will have something else to moan about.
I personally think we'll get our money back and then some from this.
Agreed

Found this earlier www.cartilagefreecaptain.com a spurs site That talks about the Swindon connection and under the archives section: Prospect rankings ( june ) talks highly of Pritchard. Perhaps someone who can will put it up on here.

Seeing as we are getting a Pritchard, just wondering what happened to our previous Pritchard (Howard) - the ex-Shitty winger

Howard Pritchard went on to become a driving instructor but now works at the BRI as a porterand he has chunked up a lot since those days, I spoke to him there a couple of years ago, nice bloke, Welsh though but I don't hold that against him.

Oops....sorry NMH.....rumours....rumours.... Smiley

Woohoo I hope this is true, not sure they need another midfielder a few days after signing Chris Lines from Sheff Weds.

I hope it isn't true. We need some experience in there.

Are we going to sign a player who isnt from Spurs at any point?

While the link is good, I hope we arent ignoring players available via other avenues not to upset Sherwood.
