We don't know the details of what Macca was offered by Brentford and Swindon, other than the reported terms of the deals and I'm sure there would have been more to it than that. But as far as I'm concerned Ward is a more vital player to keep, plus he is already under contract for next season.
'More to it' in what way? Offering a one-year deal and setting a deadline, then verbally offering a two-year deal on the deadline day was not good enough or timely enough to keep him. I don't believe Jed was so naieve to think that Macca would not try to find employment elsewhere. Therefore, he manufactured the situation for Macca to leave. Ward is certainly a more vital player to keep now that Macca, Flint and Devera have gone. Yes, he is under contract, and I can't see too many clubs offering much of a fee or a two-year contract due to his age, but would Jed turn down, say, £75,000?

I honestly believe that players like Ward, Wes amd others will not leave unless an absolutely ridiculous bid comes in. We may have to reduce the budget further but there are other areas we can trim
Obviously I hope you are right!

Oh I don't know, what about the half-arsed 11th hour verbal offer of a second year? Yep, that's why I used 'effectively'. More of a full-arsed effort than half-arsed.

Consider that the players we signed under di canio were all brought to him by agents who did a great job and got their players on good contracts. Is it therefore a surprise that the same agents are now pushing these players on again to get bigger contracts elsewhere? We were happy when they were signing for us, but now the shoe is on the other foot.
Happen to think there are some good young players released from premiership clubs that can help this club longer term so fingers crossed we sign some of them.

Ward to Brentford doesn't seem unreasonable. they will probably be challenging again and its back to the Smoke - wages Now where do I pick Roberts up to drive him to Chesterfield. Overrated, pile of shit who didn't step up to the plate when Richie left - he got better but was still shite.

Harsh. At least he did improve. Plenty of others didn't (Wes, Williams, Miller, L Rooney, De Vita). Roberts put a great shift in at Brentford and if he could replicate that in half his performances I'd be happy for him to start every week. Yes, he can do shite stuff in a game, but he isn't a 'pile of shit'.

I'd be surprised if Ward was one of those to be moved on, but we can't be picky.

I had Ward down as Captain next season- he was obviously a respected player within the club, and he's a cool head to have shouting stuff from the back, and giving the young players (of which we have LOTS this year), a bit of experience to follow.
I do think this is a lot of collywobbles over nothing, but I do understand them, as losing him so soon after Devera/Flint would be a kick in the crotch.

Yes, can't see Chesterfield taking him on unless it was a loan that we pay a % of wages. And I can't see that happening.
I think Roberts is very underrated, but if his wages really are as high as some say then he'll have to go if an offer comes in.
7k.
