I'd have Howard back in a flash.  He's had decent spells at all of those clubs since moving on from us.  He has made almost as many appearances for Reading as he ever made for us; no surprise he's moving on now they're back in the Premier League.

Fucked off by Barnsley, Sheffield United and Reading?

Terrific...

Hardly 'fucked off' by Barnsley and Sheffield United. Club captain at Barnsley, named in the Championship team of the year there, part of a great cup run, scoring 30-odd goals in just over a hundred appearances at a higher level than where we are at.

Then went on to sign for a bigger club in Sheffield United, coming 3rd in the league and reaching the playoff final IIRC. Again hardly failure/incompetence. Sold for half a million pounds to Reading, who are an established championship club and was released because they were promoted to Premier League, where he would never be good enough to play.

Massive change in fortune, moving from an average to shit league one club to becoming a championship regular, pretty decent in my book.

Players move teams, it happens.

We aren't big enough or good enough to turn our noses up at a 28 year old who spent most of the last 6/7 seasons playing at a decent level in the Championship.  He got in the team of the year only 4 years ago.

I never thought I would find myself saying this but I would have Gary Alexander back. I didn't rate him at all when he played for us but he's improved immensely since then.

It's a shame that we didn't sign him on loan instead if Tehoue - not that it matters now of course. I wouldn't mind if we signed him in the summer to strengthen the striking department.

Also agree that Howard would be a great signing.

I'd have Howard, same sort of player as Ferry but more of a physical presence.

I would have thought that Paynter was a big lump that Paolo wanted - But I'd rather he didn't come back. Leeds fan I know is desperate for all of the team to disappear as they are the same as we were last year. Overpaid, over rated and under performing.

And knows where the goal is; exactly what our midfield lacks.

A player who has scored 5 goals in his last 100-odd appearances may know where the goal is but seldom scores them.

Few of the Leeds lot released are decent players, Nunez, Sam, Paynter and Clayton who obviously wouldn't be a realistic option for us as he will have Championship sides after him.

Brian Howard would be an improvement on what we have here and I would welcome him back, as I would Paynter.

Not Paynter please, only any good with Austin

How about Stuart Beavon, 25 in League One for a struggling Wycombe? Not too shoddy

Yeah, let's re-sign Paynter, the same man who said he was going to sign a new contract and fucked off to Leeds at the earliest opportunity.

This. He's a decent player but didn't like the way he left at all.
