If we don't sign the 5 Million Italian striker, the board are definitely showing no ambition.
Agreed!

Comments on from Barnet fans on Joe Devera. A bit of a mixed bag but mostly good. Agreed to some degree, I certainly think Devera at times looked class last season and woeful at other times (largely first half of the season)....in hindsight he is an OK League 2 Defender, who could reach the lower levels of league 1 and if that opportunity came along I certainly wouldn't begrudge him taking it. Every year he seems to have a poor patch.. so maybe we need a consistant defender for a change? instead of one injury prone and one which will lose confidence and form right when we need it. He easily deesrves to be the highest paid defender and I think he does have a strong argument to up among the top 3 best paid players in the team.
Be a shame to a lose him if the stories are true, when Joe is playing centre back there aren't to many better in the division.

Two young players who will be hungry to develop themselves, perfect replacements for some of the supposedly good players who have recently left.

I'd much rather we sign younger players who are up for the challenge, than older players at the end of their career who are coming for one last pay-day. The only recent example I can think of where experience worked in our favour was Adi Williams. I wouldn't begrudge another signing like that, but I certainly wouldn't want us to sign 4 or 5 of his age/experience, because for every 1 Adi Williams there's about 10 Gareth Whalley's.

You say young but both are 24 so not really young, about the right age we should be looking for, still young enough to develop well with the right coaching but with enough first team experience already to know what the game is about.

The only thing that concerns me with the Smith one is it suggests that Douglas has told us he does not want to stay.

They are relatively young players. I think we need to buy more experienced players. Young players are notoriously inconsistent and when we are trying to go for promotion, experience is vital.
Seem like signings that come from agents in fairness.... they are going to say how great players are. Elite Agents players??

I am pretty sure Douglas will move on too thats why we have been linked to a holding tackling midfielder, shame but I think he will find a club easily, probably Sheffield Utd.

True or is he replacing Timlin who is off to Southend I would imagine, He could stay here but Easton hasn't re-signed with them yet so he may join Sturrock get guaranteed first team football.

I think so yes. We've seen young players do well here. The likes of Austin, Ferry, Caddis, Ritchie, Cuthbert (1st season) but we need a bit more experience if we want to go for promotion. If we have the likes of Flint and Devera or Lecs at the back next season I won't be confident. That's not saying they're not good players, I just think the likes of Greer and Dougie, Paynter etc two seasons ago were the most important players for us.

I know it's a bit of a cliche
But don't some of you think you should wait until ALL of the signings are announced before deciding they aren't good enough?

I wonder if Douglas is on his way, The story in the Adver about Greer seems a bit of a dig towards Douglas and his captaincy

Think i must of said this a hundred times.ALL signings come from agents first. They suggest the players then the scouts go out and watch them and report to the manager.
