Kemp a bit more of a known quality after a decent spell with Hartlepool but again did anyone thing back in August oh yeah Kemps going to be the best player in the entire division?

Yeah, definitely thought there was potential for that.

Young I hadn't a clue how it would work out.

Take your point but also very hindsighty.

Go back to August and most of us had Jake Young down as 3rd/4th choice striker. Don’t think even Positive McHappyClapper had Young down to be striker #1 & hitting nearly 20 goals on half a season.

…loans are gambles. If they work short term then they are a ball ache long term for the reasons you’ve said yourself. If they are shit short term then they are easy to get out of and roll the dice again…

Agreed. I think some would have been apoplectic if we'd paid money for them at the time. There's always a chance we could get hold of two more "gems" on loan

A couple of seasons ago when we were doing the discover gems thing properly, we paid money for Khan, Hutton and Clayton within about a week of eachother. Can't imagine any of them were huge amounts, but that's how this has to work.

God how am I pining for the halcyon days of Sandro?

Young I can agree with sort of but not Kemp, he’d just come off the back of a good loan at Hartlepool and worth the fee. Young is more based on the fee but with Hughes bombing him out, the chance would likely have been there.

And that chance was there for every other football league club. Nobody else took the chance. We did. We just went in for a loan, not a permanent. For the sake of balance, this isn’t one to shoot the club down for. The same can be said for Kemp. I was frustrated when we signed Young, because Walsall had got Johnson. What a difference 6 months makes.

Happy to agree to disagree on Kemp, my first inclination when he signed was we should have gone for the perm deal. 24 years old, 11 goal contributions in 16 games for a relegated Hartlepool side the season before in the same league and a manager who didn’t want to fit him into their plans. From my experience in that area, he’d have been flagging on nearly every metric to be worth the perm deal.

Young I’ll agree on, very few could have envisaged he’d go on this run.

Thought the same on Johnson too tbf, crazy how he’s dropped off so massively under Sadler, wonder what’s gone on there behind the scenes

If anyone relevant had thought that, then we'd have been nowhere near signing him, even on loan.

Having said that, there was half a season's clear evidence that he could make a difference at this level.  Credit to us  (who exactly?) for spotting that.  But it does seem that MK placed relatively little value on him and we can only wonder what really were the factors that prevented us from signing him?

Mighty pissed off with Clem but not itk on the above issue.

To be fair maybe it was a case of the club rated him but the manager didn’t, they needed to get him out but the club valued him so still wanted a decent price for him

Yeah.  A realistic factor.

I'm amazed we secured him on loan.

I just have a nagging doubt that a half decent offer may have secured us Kemp on a perm for a bit of a steal.

Still, we have to look forward to Jan.now.

Isn't hindsight wonderful. Imagine we'd have been able to find 200-300k to get Kemp on a 2 year deal with an option. Given what's he's shown so far this season, given his age, you'd imagine someone like Peterborough would try and chance their arm in January with a 1.5 million bid and we'd be in a great position to rebuild the squad properly for a tilt on promotion. Ah well. He who doesn't dare Clemmy.

Franchise will almost certainly sell him in Jan I would have thought.

9 days away from the transfer window flying open - and there are no rumours - shall we start predicting what date Young & Kemp get recalled and when we will be informed, and then and when we sign our first player (that cant play in either of their positions) ?

Personally I think Crawley will be their last game in an stfc shirt (so watch them at the FGR game saying goodbye to the fans)

Unrealistic replacements

Charlie Kirk for Kemp

Danny Johnson for Young

We’ll probably get Captain Kirk and Holly Johnson
