I’m waiting for the announcement Jack Payne signs for Oxford so I can have a massive melt down…

Would be a great advertisement to other players we're trying to sign if he decides to commit to us.

I'll second that

Will be sad to see Hunt leave the club as you get to value and like certain players.
Football is brutal and agents, the modern problem of football continue to tarnish the game we all love. Never met one I liked or would ever trust.

Players and Managers all have a short shelf life. Andy King summed this up perfectly well the day he was sacked. “You lot will be here way after I’ve gone.” So obviously true.
Football will never be the same from the era we loved, was so much simpler and far less about money.
Can only imagine Cloughie dealing with the modern day owners and agents having far too much power and say in the modern game.

The days of going to the game, surviving the bricks and boots, just a radio report, the football pink and a Sunday report are long gone, the chippie along Manchester Road etc all so very simple.
Would go back in time at a heart beat.

Sunderland have sold over 30,000 season tickets.
Don’t know many other clubs as loyal as this lot.

Love the surviving the bricks & boots quote which was so true in the late 70's early 80's especially if Pompey both Bristol clubs and Oxford were in Town! If you could get next to somebody with a small wireless in the Town end you were doing well otherwise it was a case of checking your programme v the scores on the advertising boards at the Stratton Bank and looking in someone's front window to see if grandstand or world of sport were on as you walked down County road at full time.

As you say football was much simpler back then when a player and his dad agreed the deal with the manager and chairman. Nothing complicated and normally sorted out quickly after hand shakes all round.

That's crazy and only to be admired and should be in the premier league.

Whilst I get your point, it is actually bollocks. By that theory we should be comfortably in the top half of L1... but we are where we deserve to be thanks to the 11 on the pitch... which as we all know, is all that matters...

On the subject of last season and a free hit
The squad was a really high standard and was missing only a decent centre forward after Simpson went back and possibly several replacement loans.
With the support we were generating why the hell didn't Clem try and invest and get promotion.
If promotion had been achieved last year  and looking at the fixtures would suggest Town could have been able sell 8k season tickets this year.
Just something does not add up here

We were under an embargo? He couldn’t have invested even if he wanted too.

Ummmm
The club was purchased for 275k plus unknown liabilities
Debt of 2.5 million paid off so far
1 million FA loan carried over due to interest free loan.
Ground purchase proposed JV
Hate to be Lindsay as manager this year if things don't go well

Give or take they could be getting around 40k+ with pay on the day and large away followings and should be back in the premier league with that fanatical support. I get what you're saying we should be in the the top of half of league one with our 10,000-14,000 but if we have a mediocre season expect crowds to drop below 7,500 when the likes of Sutton & Barrow etc are in Town on a cold winters evening.

None of that changes the fact we were under an embargo, you asked why he didn’t invest last season when we looked strong.

Such a shame with injuries to  Hunt Cooper and Tomlinson in the final part of the season.
That said, Conroy came good after a very poor patch
Hope Scott Lindsay can gel a similar standard of players this season
