Lindsey did say Payne deal wasn't dead, and Hunt was 'ongoing'
If I was the owners at Swindon this Morning I would be giving Hunt an increased offer to stay instead of disregarding him. Equally I would give Payne the Captaincy and hope his agent stops dicking around playing us off with another club. Losing two experienced players right now could be a further blow. Only knows what the next week will bring. I have seen first hand how these agents work and no wonder football is such a bastard mercenary business. Unreal some of the games they play and the fall outs between them is unreal.

If the choice for Payne and his agent is between us and Crawley then I suspect we will play hardball and won't pay an excessive agent's fee whereas I reckon Crawley might. They've managed to attract Dominic Telford which is a bit of a coup and so Payne signing for them sadly wouldn't be as surprising as it would have previously been, given what Crawley look to be doing this season.

If it is between us and Crawley then I think we have a much better chance than I initially thought. If it is true that he bought a house and is settled near Swindon then that is in our favour. Also a lot of his mates are here and he did stay with us previously when we got relegated and I imagine he has a good working relationship with Lindsey. I have a feeling he will stay and it is encouraging that any deal is not yet dead in the water.

If he stays he stays. If he goes he goes. I certainly wouldn't be allowing him/his agent to dictate any contract negotiations. He only stayed last season because he was on a good whack. None of this loyalty nonsense, if he was OOC last season he'd have been gone. This has dragged on for too long now. Get it done in the next few days on our terms or move on.

He had a very good season with us but no mention of why there weren't any league one clubs after him last season when he was a year younger and 5k per week would be an average wage.

Maybe behind the scenes he has told his agent that he wants to stay here and to get the best deal he can. Playing us off against any other suitor is part of the game being played out until either we or Crawley for example pull the drawbridge up and make your mind now, final offer and no more.

Could be tough given how much money Crawley's owners raised in a matter of hours last night. I really hope he stays but wouldn't be at all surprised if he didn't.

Mate, I so hope you're right. That would be massive. If we could then get a half decent striker (maybe with a little bit of experience... too much to ask for??) that would put a totally different perspective on the close season...

Need to reward the loyal fanbase after last seasons free hit and “back the club.” Don’t take the piss because most of us won’t accept the bull shit.

Yeah, the support last season was incredible and like you rightly say, it deserves to be rewarded...

Outstanding news if he does, I'm hoping for a good week that can bring the opposing sides of the fanbase back together.
