I'm in 2 minds about Davison. He has some handy lower league attributes, he works hards, he is not bad in the air, has shown that he knows where the goal is, the 2 at Harrogate and the goal against Orient were good strikers finishes. On the other side he's quite clumsy and bumbling at times and I'm not convinced by his anticipation and positioning.

I suspect he's going to be a free agent in the summer and might be a handy acquisition as a striker off the bench. I wouldn't be incandescent with rage if we signed him and I wouldn't throw my toys out of the play pen if he went to a fellow league 2 side also.

More or less how I feel. He can't be our number 1 striker

Sadly it is probably right about Simpson we can risk a tribunal fee as it may be out of our league, the only way is if Ipswich are prepared to come to an agreement, small, fee with sell on's etc but it is early the window is not open yet and while we need probably 3 strikers who knows who else will be available.

Another few weeks yet for the speculation ramp up.

Garner has shown absolutely zero inclination to play 2 strikers. With McGirty unexpectedly netting 18 he’s gotten away with it. Neither Simpson or Davison have missed many games. If we sign either of them on a perm is he likely to sign another just to sit on the bench or if another loanee, not to play him.

We all know it’s going to be more of the same next season. It’s just a question of whether we can up the overall quality a bit all round to make a fist of promotion.

Defenders will still be expected to play primarily as ersatz midfielders with actual defending as secondary consideration.

I still can’t see it being successful in L2.

To me Davison appears handy and adequate for L2.
A top end L1 could probably carry him to a decent return at that level.

Ok, 22 is still relatively young but maybe Davison has already hit his ceiling. I don’t think he’s got any better (nor worse tbf) for being here.

Simpsons levels of performance were leas consistent than Davison but he was visibly improving and appears to have a much higher ceiling.

For arguments sake. I could see Davison being a bit like Alan Connell could get us out of this league but would need replacing. Where as I could see Simpson progressing with the team if that makes sense.

Just hope we keep hold of McKirdy for another season and he is not sold on before August.

What do people think would be an acceptable price to accept for McKirdy if it happens

I really cannot see anyone paying for McKirdy - he has had a good season with us, but he is not on a massive long term deal and comes with a bad rep prior to moving to us.  Maybe a Charlton of this world panic's a bit?  I mean, anyone outside of the South East and M4 corridor is taking a huge gamble on Chelsea's fortunes.

Him and Payne both said they needed some stability. McGirty has been given a decent rope of length regarding his off pitch shenanigans. I’d say, of the 2, Payne with 10 goals and a handful of assists would be seen as a more solid signing for someone - although he’s not done much elsewhere.

I’d like to think they’d both be here next season. Reed May fancy his chances somewhere else. JoJo I honestly can’t see leaving this season with him missing a chunk of time at the WC. Williams can’t seem to last a full 90 minutes let alone consecutive games so his options may be limited.

If we can get a squad built around those 4 or 5 we’ll do OK - hopefully that bit better than this season.

Two words - Nile Ranger

Doesn't score goals.
Worst attitude/issues in any player we have had.
Still had 4 years league football after us!

Obviously massively depends on who we bring in either before selling McKirdy or with any money we’d receive but I genuinely think he’s priceless in this team.

What he brings to the team no one else does. We need more McKirdy’s not less.

I want our midfield strengthening- they are far too porous at the moment which results in unnecessary pressure on the defense. Attack wise they are great but god, they let a lot get through.

What a career he could have had if he had more brain cells. What always struck me was how calm he was on the pitch. Could get lumps kicked out of him without reacting, yet take him into society and, well…you know the rest

But people kept picking him up on a free, not paying for him.

Inclined to agree mate, i do think the risk is there with him as an assett though that was only reason to ask. Picks up niggles gets suspensions and will he ever be any better than this season. I would certainly be desperate to keep him but do have a feeling it will all end in tears one day
