Can’t remember the last time we paid a fee for a player so it’s no different from other windows

Was hopeful of a small fee for Simpson and these windows should be different as no longer have Power. Maybe my expectations of the new owners are too high

I wouldn't mind Davison at all. I may be in a minority of one but I prefer him to Simpson.

I think I do aswell, and probably more likely to sign Davison. 8 goals so far is decent.

I like/liked Simpson though and would love him back. I remember Simpson getting pelters on here in Sept/Oct and described as a 'non footballer'. Absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess..but also credit to garner who clearly improved him in his time here.

We are hardly going to come out and say that we are in the market for Simpson in a press conference, irrelevant of whether we are or not.  If we are interested, this is where Chorley earns his crust, and we have to trust him to do the right things.  I am sure that Clem would dip in if it was sensible but we all know that Clem is not a Sheik.

Having listened to Garner press conferences for a year now, one thing that everyone should be clear on is that anything that is said about transfers and injuries should be taken with a huge pinch of salt - he keeps everything very close to his chest.

I would have Simpson all day long over Davison.  If Davison is our man then another Striker to play alongside him is a must, that one thing is for sure.

There were championship clubs sniffing around Simpson in January. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes to a Champ club and heads back out on loan. Him & Garner have a good relationship so could well be here!

Half a season in L2 shouldn't really inflate any fee. Suppose it’s potential a club will be buying. Which is why I would have thought a smallish fee would be appropriate with a large sell on for Ipswich if he progresses and does well.

It;s never as simple as that though there will be so much more to it. What let's say and this isn't a rumour but what if say someone like Luton or Peterborough are in for him. Why would we be in with a chance?

There is no way it will be just us and a few league 2 teams in so it shouldn't be disappointing as such or set the tone for the season. If we are missing out on 26-year-old journeymen to other teams in the league then we should start to worry

Given Twine was £250k(?) with 20% sell on, couldn’t see Simpson being near that. From my understanding the tribunal is dependent on how much the parent club develops the player (years at the club, appearances in first team etc all factored in). Given he played half a season at us in L2, I can’t see Ipswich having developed him much in terms of first team football, so I’d have guessed at around 100k with sell on % included

Oh come on, Davison has a few goals and lots of effort but he’s never going to be anymore than a jobbing league 2 player. He has zero striker instincts, he always seems flat footed in the box and never seems to get those right place at the right time goals. Then there’s his first touch… his second touch is usually a tackle as the ball has bounced off him.

He’s fine as an option off the bench but he shouldn’t be a starter for any club with aspirations of going up.

Simpson had far more to his game, the only thing lacking was ability in the air.

Funny you say that. Simpson played 25 games for us scored 9 assisted 3. Twine played 49 games and scored 8  assisted 3. Simpson will be 3 years younger than when we got the 250k mentioned

Instinct cannot be coached...hes missed a hatful by a couple of inches or so. So frustrating cos i like him.

Exactly that, he’s always flat footed. There’s no instinct or anticipation there.

Ok, Davison may lack that predatory strikers instinct, but has shown that he can finish cooly from some tricky positions.

Would be interesting to compare the overall stats of McKirdy / Simpson v McKirdy / Davison.
