Would be absolutely gutting to lose him if that transpired. Easily one of our most consistent performers, and 9 goals (at least) by Christmas is a great return

Honestly I was shocked Payne re-signed in the summer, if a January clause was the only way to get six months more of him then that's a real shame but it was worth doing.

Either way, we’ll still get nothing for him.

Hopefully, what we do in the January window may persuade him staying is his best option. The group is tight, he’s loved at the club and, no doubt, he’ll get his reward if we go up. If not, then he leaves with everyone’s blessing.

Yeah sorry, badly phrased - it was reported he had a relegation clause and could have left last summer on a free. I was shocked that he didn't.

In the Summer Payne said he wanted to be at a club where he was an integral part of the team, play in every game and feel appreciated by staff and fans.

He currently has that and don't think he would get that at either MKD or Wigan.

He has been probably our best and most consistant player all season, followed by Reed and Wollacott.

Although money does talk I think he needs to feel loved, which he is, probably paper talk but I can understand teams wanting him as hes probably in his best run of form of his career.

Do we know if he had similar offers in the summer, frankly if he stayed then I cannot see why he would go now?

He had offers definately which I think was why he came out and said what he did, I too don't see that anything has changed so don't see him going anywhere.

These stories from May.

After last season's shambles there were a number of fans that would happily of seen Payne Foxtrot Oscar elsewhere. Glad he chose to stick with us and show how good he really is. Hopefully he'll be loyal to the long term goal here. He seems to be enjoying his football and is a huge asset and has bonded with a lot of the players looking at McKirdy's instagram!

Louie Barry from Villa

Decent youth pedigree - Barcelona and then Villa. His Wiki says winger/striker so similar to Gilbert Grape?
