Sorry.. JSW not first choice?
JSW is our only choice....if he gets crocked JFW will get a game. Don't excpect Branco back any time soon as it's one of those recurrence injuries. Jones will probably be this season's Jordan Williams.

JSW is already close to a suspension so if this tendency to pickup yellow cards continue then his place will be at risk regardless.

JSW too nice for a defender - needs to be more aggressive and tougher in the tackle and needs to be more dominant in the air - he is a squad player and not a regular in my book as bloody Rodgers should be don't get how he plays every week absolutely shocking players - no pace - doesn't tackle - only passes sideways or back - if your an opposing player just drop your shoulder against him and you beat him. The season Rodgers was on the bench nearly all season we did well with him in the side we always struggle. Cant blame him for everything but I wish LW would sort our bloody crap defending out we are so fucking nice and until he changes it we will have another season like last gifting goals and letting soft goals in

He's not the best in the world but seriously? Rodgers has had two good games already this season and deserved his place on the pitch both times. Opening day I was shocked by his performance because I had been hoping to show my mate a truly rubbish player and instead got a pretty average L1 midfielder with moments of good play. Against QPR he played his skin off by all accounts.
Really don't get the hatred for him. He's not the best player no, but if Williams has faith in him then it's borne out for 2/3's of the games this season.

JSW is terrible in the air. In the Coventry game we watched it very closely and he didn't win one header. He hasn't the pace to recover from a mistake and often gets caught when we are passing the ball around the back. He's ok at best but we should not consider him first choice.
Rodgers has played ok/well so far this season. He hits a good cross field ball on occasion to the wing backs who are the real outlets in the team. His range of passing generally is okay but he often puts other people in trouble with the balls he plays to them. Rodgers gets exposed because he is very slow over even short distances, and doesn't put the work in to close down that the others do. Ultimately the qualities he has others (Kasim/Doughty) have more of and for a balance in midfield we need those two to be complimented by somebody who really puts in the hard yards, wins the ball back, plays it simple. The old Louis Thompson role. I believe/d that Thomas is going to be this player but injury has stopped us playing the three of them together. I will be amazed if/when they are all fit and assuming Kasim doesn't leave that Rodgers still starts, but wait and see.
No new striker signed by the 12pm deadline so the Gills line up will be looking shakey again subject to Norris injury and Obika recovery.

Yep, our strikers have been our main source of goals so far this season.

2-2. Barry & Goddard if we didn't sign that other fella. But I really hope we did! We're already looking short on the ground.

If we're without Obika and Norris, I'd play Doughty up top just for some presence. Goddard should start too.
Delf would be an adequate squad player for times like these, but not much more, I'd suggest.

I'd almost take a narrow defeat and no injuries tomorrow.

Could be worse - we could have spunked a shit load of cash and be without a win so far like the scummers.

Depends on who you listen to. In short, yes we have. But most of our moaners will have you think otherwise, and they're probably paying twice what we are in terms of wage budget.

It's been about 20 years since Oxford were above us in a league table....one of only a relative few times since 1879. You could argue that we've been a bit unlucky with injuries, or you could argue, our close season of waiting and waiting then getting in a few lads who haven't maybe had the pre-season you'd like was risky, and we've been found out. I don't think a lot of our younger fans are going to take slipping behind, recently arrived from non league local rivals like Oxford and Rovers too kindly. We got a right tonking at Priestfield in the Wilson season opener.....but then settled into being a whole load better at the back with an 11 match unbeaten run. If we get a pasting tomorrow, I wouldn't have a deal of confidence in turning it around quickly this time.
