no idea what happened but i hope the homophobes feel pleased about wasting £22.50 Smiley

i'm too wrapped up in my own little world to care about STFC right now, it feels weird. i tend to fluctuate but i usually at least care, today i can't muster anything aside from being pleased at the renaming of the south stand.

i don't think we'll go down though, we'll continue to bob along until the end of the season picking up points here and there - we're not outright shit, just inconsistent and a bit crap.

not sure if malpas will survive the summer, listening to the radio after the game there is a lot of hostility being aimed at him. you have to wonder whether fitton will stick by his appointment or bow to fan pressure and replace him.

we'll see Kanyuka in the side as soon as he is fit. i dont think there will be too many arguments about his inclusion either.

The last bit makes an interesting point. Fitton seems to be all about fan power at the moment, and it's getting to the point that he'll be under preassure to appoint a new manager for that reason. At some point he's going to have to stand up and tell the fans to wait; because, for one reason or another, our fans seem to lack patience.

I'm not really talking about Malpas, if Fitton decides to put someone new in then I'll back them too. As long as he does it at the right time, ie. at the end of the season / start of pre-season. I think the worst thing that town could ever do would be to sack Malpas halfway through next season. Has to be early May, or one year from there, or never because he turns out to be ace.

Personally I'd like to see Malpas given a proper season in charge. I don't see the point in employing him otherwise. Maybe there wasn't a point in employing him, apart from a lot of fans calling for an appointment (fan preassure again).

I'm losing my train of thought here a bit. I think what I'm saying is that we had a lot of fans calling for a new appointment, but if we're not going to give him a proper season then we might as well have left Dave.B in charge.

Or something. I'm going for a cigarette.

Patience folks, patience!

All that gives me the hump is the formula tha big man inherited didn't look too broke to me so why not ride with it until the end of the season and see where it took us?

Malpas is a talented coach from what we read and we've seen some green shoots of progress so I'm not willing to do anything but reserve my judgement until he's had a proper crack of the whip. OK so his face might not quite fit for some at the moment but cast your minds back to the Macari days, take away the fact he was Lou Macari and you'd find he hardly got off to a flyer. We all know where he took us.

I don't mean to sound like a patronising @rsehole... just trying to inject a little reason. Wink

Gillingham have got Port Vale-and they WILL lose Dell boy.Even doomed Bournemouth would have got a point at Gillingscum had they not missed a penalty.

They were good enough though to beat Walsall, Leyton Orient, Brighton and thats something we couldn't achieve, they also gave Notts Forest a 3-0 thrashing this season.

Funny old game football!!

I don't like Gillingham, but I think they will survive the drop, perm any one from six who might join the three doomed sides, and if we carry on with our current form of 5 points in the last 8 games, it could most definitely be us.

So dell,  how would you assess the odds on:-

1) Gillingham staying up
2) Us going down

Well said. I don't think our new backers will accept mediocrity, but similarly I don't think they'll a) pander to moaning fans like too many chairmen have done of late and b) not allow Malpas every opportunity to show his worth. He's not impressed anybody yet - if the same is true 12 months down the line, then we start think of a change.

I think Dell is over egging this.  Odds of us going down from this position with 8 games to go are probably in the 500/1 to 1,000/1 range.  Of course it might happen...but it probably won't.

If we're talking about "historically", then haven't we always been a mid-table division 3 side (with some flourishes of glorious success)?

Malpas must be given a pre-season to show us what he is all about. It's as simple as that.

They also lost 5-0 to us,4-0 to Northampton,Forest and Hartlepool, lost at home to Port Vale and 3-0 at home to Crewe.Dont worry Dell Boy,they ARE shit and will go down. There is a player crisis at the club where senior players are missing training,I would guess as a protest at all the sub standard non-league players that Stimson signed and they let their best defender Sodje go out on loan.If we dont finish above them then I'LL run naked round the magic roundabout-and nobody wants to see that!

Interesting, I've been going for 46 seasons, including this one.  By my calculations, defining mediocre as an outside top ten finish, and hence mid table, then in those years we've had 13 mediocre Div 3 seasons, along with 3 mediocre Div 4 seasons.

9 decent Div 3 seasons backed up by 2 decent Div 4 seasons.....and 18 seasons at Div 2 with one in the Prem.

So taking that as a rough guide, about a 1/2 our time has been spent at this level, much of it being mediocre, with as you say the odd decent season.

What it tends to indicate, is that it is going to be very difficult for MM to turn us into a competitive outfit, even if he is still in the job.

Gillingham 1/2 to go down
Swindon 10/1 to go down

I'm not saying we will go down, but if we continue on this run we MIGHT be in trouble, of course that would mean sides below must have their good run as well, still think Gillingham will survive though.

The alcohol in the system seems to have disappeared this morning, probably be back to my arse-hole attitude by 4pm this afternoon, will remember to stay off the computer and keep the stress levels of others down. Cheesy
