its becks own fault.he chased the money by going to the usa when he could have joined a prem club.
bentley is better now anyway so its irrelivent really

Not about what Beckhams done now though its about what he has done in the past, the effort, desire and passion he has shown for the national team over the past 10 years is an example to all of those other big time charlies who just turn up and are no where near the standard they play at for there clubs.

I thought after the past Capello would feel he owed Becks the swan song goodbye.  He should give him the 100th cap and then move him out the squad, there is a time to acknowledge respect and this was it.

We all know Bentley is playing great and he will have plenty of opportunities in the coming years so I am sure we could have left him out for just this one friendly, bit dissapointed by Capello.

ok then lets get bobby charlton and lineker back too.oh and gazza.
becks doesn't desrve to play end of.squad maybe at a push but come on, he aint playing competetive soccer

what's not to say becks won't get his 100th when he's playing regularly again? He's not fit so won't play - but that's not to say he won't get it nwhen he's playing again?

I think it's a good statement of intent. I'm the new manager and f*ck what you all think, I'm gonna do this my way.

Good on him.

Bit of a shame he won't get his 100th cap but hey ho - sentiment doesn't win you games.

Its Switzerland in a meaningless friendly I am sure 5 mins at the end wouldn't of damaged the cause.  I just feel what Beckham has done for the national team should of been rewarded with his 100th cap then you could just move him on.  As far as not deserving to get in the squad so what about Dave Kitson a player that has scored 20 goals in a seaon only once 6 years ago in the lowest league

maybe the new manager doesn't see it as meaningless macca?
becks trained for a bit with arsenal then fucked off to brazil promoting his academy.
he aint that good now that he can do that and turn up for england squads.
kitson deserves a place before beckham for sure.that said, i'd have given him his 5 mins then its done

The country, and English football, is bigger than Beckham. You can't give the guy a 100 cap swan-song just because of his commitment and effort. I really appreciate it, as does most of the football-loving English community, and it is a shame he may not get his 100th cap, but that's life.

And what exactly is it that Beckham has done for the national team-apart from being the captain of probably the worst England side of the past 34 years?

It's Beckhams own fault for taking the bumper pay day in America instead of playing proper Footy somewhere in Europe, he isn't match fit....end of.

Beckham's had his time, there's no room for sentiment.

The bloke got us into one tournament (WC02) and cost us our place in 2 (WC98 and E04), so in my eyes it's tough fucking luck and he's getting his comeuppance in some respects. If he'd have stayed at Madrid rather than running off chasing the folding stuff to some tinpot league he'd still be in the squad.

Typical english, re-writing history.  Did you not draw against the Greeks 2-2?

As and outsider looking in, as for Beckham it would have been nice to have repayed the bloke with a sentimental 100th cap.  Capello will pick him in the future though.  Beckham will get his 100th cap, I have no doubts about that.

Not forgetting that once we actually got there(WC02) -he helped cost us the game against Brazil by bottling out of a tackle which led to Rivaldo's equaliser.

Beckham deserves his 100th cap this should be at Wembley - gone past his sell by date, probably maybe definitely - this has nothing to do with his ability to be in the current side - this is about an ambassador for English football and any English fan could never fault that.

Beckham deserves that 100th appearance, always fully committed for his country, why do people knock him, I take my hat off to him.

not knocking him-just stating facts. He's not playing football so he shouldn't be in the squad.Cant blame Capello for wanting to start building from his very first game. After our shambolic performances no-one can argue with that
