With everyone stating we need to show more ambition etc and moaning that we should be competing with northampton.
I read that we still have to run every deal through the league still and with our massive wage bill ( the 3 kidnappers) maybe this could be the reason we are not able to pay to much at the moment

The voice of reason.
Fitton has said we will be run like no other club, and I didn't take that to mean spending ££££ we don't have.
We need to put our house in order first. And whilst it is frustrating it is the correct thing to do. The big financial mess won't clear itself up overnight.

Oooh, wild guess here but maybe there's a playing budget?

I'm sure there is....but there is no written rule that it has to be a % of turnover like in League Two.
I'm sure Fitton has a budget in mind, but if he wants on field progress he'll have to stretch the budget....

Why? We can offload first, steady the ship, then think about everything else. As previous boards have proven, stretching the budget isn't particularly sensible.

Dress it up all you like, but if they are serious about their aims to get us into the Championship in 3 years, we can't be getting outbid by the likes of Northampton. Leeds, Forest or Swansea maybe - but not Northampton.

I think some fans are underestimating the scale of the rebuilding job that needs doing on this club: it's not like a magic wand - "Oh well new guys in charge now so all that off-field stuff is fine now". The club as a business is a total mess which needs a complete rebuild. While in the medium term that obviously has to go hand in hand with progress on the pitch, at the moment (just a few weeks into the new regime, remember) the priority has to be stablising the off-field stuff and rebuilding it into something that looks like a business. This season is mainly about securing that stability, then we can look to push on next season

It would be suicide to get promoted this year the club is just not ready on or off the field for Championship football. I think Fitton is doing this the correct way by not throwing cash at it.

what paul davies said, you can't go from going almost out of business to signing players willy nilly and getting promotion. Spend money like there's no tomorrow and no lessons have been learned - we'll be back in a mess. Build it slowly, get our house in order then lets start talking progression.

Erm....... Could I point out to people that the plan is for Championship football in 3 years.
We're one promotion away from that, so promotion this season is not a requirement, although it would be a nice bonus. What is needed this season is to clear the decks and to start sorting out the organisation of the club from top to bottom
TBH I'd have been a bit worried if after making a load of statements about the need for sound business practices this new board had started throwing money about on transfer fees before they'd even got the debts paid off.
If the board work their way through their 10 point plan tick list between now and the start of net season I'll be happy whether we're in league one or the championship.
