Bangkok do you ever hear of tourists out there who go ‘native’ and can’t handle the thought of going home?

Can’t remember where but I read an interesting article about 6 years back which followed several middle aged men who were struggling to come to terms with having to return back home to their lacklustre lives after being blindly sucked into the bar girl scene.

One of them tried to do himself in out of a hotel window and a couple of others packed in their jobs and lives and went native only to realise the old adage ‘no money no honey.’

I think another had to see the quacks as he went a bit loopy from it all.

Yeah, happens all the time especially in the sleaze capital that is Pattaya.

So many blokes come out here and meet a girl "Whore" in a bar and fall in love is shocking. They completely fall for the "I love you, good handsome man" thing despite the fact that it took money for her to shag him the first few times.

They become so convinced by the girls charms that they fall head over heals and spend their whole life savings on the girl, only to find that when the bank account runs dry and the gravy train stops then the love of their life vanishes leaving the bloke pennilless, loveless and desperate.

To us more experience chaps out here we have our own translations to what the girls say and actually mean.

1) "Hello, Handsome man"...Means "Hello, you look minted"
2) "Where you come from?"... Means "Do you come from a rich country"
3) "Where you stay?"... Means "Can you afford an expensive hotel?"
4) "How long you stay Thailand?"... Means "How long can I drain you for?"
5) "My baby is sick"... Means "I am just testing to see how gullible you are"

ect ect.

I am generalising of course as the vast majority of Thais girls are not whore's at all. But if these guys come out here and pay for sex with a whore and then fall in love with them then the saying stands: You can take the girl out of the bar, but you can't take the bar out of the girl.

Most blokes just come out for a bit of fun and shagging for a couple of weeks or so though, but even then some dumb cunt's end up going back home and end up sending money back to a bar girl each motnh.

On the original point (or one of them), I saw a programme once that had people jumping off cliffs into the sea from 40m up, it stung a bit but they were fine, I guess you could survive up to a 100m or so with a few injuries depending how you entered the water.

Slightly on a different tangent, but when you're staying in a hotel, are you ever tempted to jump from your balcony into the swimming pool.  I'd never do it but I have been tempted.

The pool always seems close enough that if you get a decent run up you'd make it.  One for Dirty Sanchez maybe.

Tempted may be a bit strong, has the thought ever crossed your mind.

Not the best idea.

I saw an elephant dive into a bucket of water once from what looked over a 100 feet.

I think the film was 'Dumbo'............................
