so where do you sit on this bloke? Should he be hung, drawn and quartered for killing his son, or sympathised with for having a mental problem.

I wouldn't say I sympathise, but I think to lock him up when he's clearly broken already is a mistake. He's got to live with that for the rest of his life.

He has a history of metnal problems in his family and his wife was clearly playing away and threatening to take his kids away from him. Why he didn't chuck her over the balcony instead of taking himself and his kids is beyond me...

I think it would be unfair to convict him because something clearly went wrong in his mind to make him do this.
We will never know the full truth - he says he doesn't remember what happened- but I believe he was probably told to say that.

What I do think though is some serious questions need to be asked to his wife, my thoughts are is that she did something to spark his fury and I think it invloved saying something like I am leaving you & taking your kids and you won't see them again.

I may be wrong but from what has been said something isn't quite right

that's what I thought. Even if she did say those things, though, jumping off a balcony seems a tad extreme. As I say though, his family seems to have a problem with mental issues.

Sad story whatever happened.

Wasn't she already seeing the guy she's now married to when they went on holiday to 'reconcile their differences'?

If in doubt, blame the wife. Cool

The lad is dead and was thrown off a balcony deliberately. Sounds like murder to me.

Slightly on a different tangent, but when you're staying in a hotel, are you ever tempted to jump from your balcony into the swimming pool.  I'd never do it but I have been tempted.

The pool always seems close enough that if you get a decent run up you'd make it.  One for Dirty Sanchez maybe.

Tempted may be a bit strong, has the thought ever crossed your mind.

Iv'e often 'wondered' if it would be possible, but it would take a serious crack session before I was tempted.

I did once jump off a boat from about 15m into the sea once in Greece, I didn't hurt myself but it stung a bit.

How high above water to you need to be before jumping into that water would do you damage?

Apparently only one person has surviced falling from Sydney Harbour Bridge, I would have thought you'd be fine falling from that distance.

I would sat it would need to be deeper than an adverage swimming pool Jan - most pools are 2 meters deep tops - They class that OK for doing an adverage dive

That reminds me I remember reading about a guy who tried jumping from his hotel balcony into the sea a couple of  years ago, found the story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/4736962.stm

That's not my question JFW.

How high above water do you have to be, before you'd do yourself damage by jumping into it?  Like jumping into the sea, not a depth of the water question, more to do with the force of entering the water.

Know what I mean?

As for that welsh bloke, what a shame, love the quote from his mate "last thing I remember is him doing an Elvis impression"

Kinda reminds me of myself.  I once jumped out of my mates first floor window with no shoes on, cos I couldn't be bothered to use his front door.  The powers of alcohol eh?

My guess is that you could probably survive pretty high up, after all we have all seen those people who dive into the sea from a cliff edge.

As I said my 15m jump stung a bit, and much higher I may have done myself some damage but I am not a pro, and was also rather drunk at the time and so I did a bit of a belly flop.
