If Sturrock wanted out we'd have never been able to stop him. Though I'm surprised we didn't put up a pretend fight like the Dongs did with Ince.
Money talks. If Ince had wanted out of Franchise he'd have got his move just like Ollie did with the 'muff, etc, etc.
We need a new manager, we won't get one until the takeover is complete/screwed. Just got to get on with it.

It's all very well saying we must appoint a manager.
Unrealistic from two angles
1) I can't believe we'd attract anyone currently in a job into the mess that is the club at present (leaving aside the fact we're not going to want to pay compensation until takeover decided).
2) If the takeover is a genuine possibility Fitton will want to appoint to avoid much compensation as a result of ditching the new incumbent.
I know these two points have been covered elsewhere and In my opinion the fact we haven't appointed yet gives me a glimmer of hope that the takeover is closer than we might imagine.

The sight of Sandy Gray on the OS, dishing the freebies, is a sure sign that the takeover is about to collapse and Plan B, to carry on....namely the same old shit.

There was a short interview with Martin Ling in the LondonPaper last night. (Might have been covered elsewhere, so apologies if I missed it.) He denied there was any chance of him coming here, saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) 'Swindon don't even have a Chairman at the moment. Why would I want to go to a club that's got so many problems off the field?'
Which is basically what most of us have been thinking anyway. We need to sort out the boardroom shambles first, and then start looking for a new manager. In that order.
And to be frank, you would have to question the sanity and credentials of anyone desperate enough to consider us at the moment. When Diamandis is gone, the list of those interested in the Swindon job will suddenly improve in quality. Maybe even Lingy will have a change of heart.

True Ardiles, but then you have people like Allen saying they would like the job. The fact that someone like Ling is still keeping in touch of the goings on suggests if things did improve, attracting him to the job wouldn't be as difficult as first thought.
If the takeover gets sorted then that's when the major panic for a manager should happen. If not, we're so far up shit creek it's all incidental.

That's my point, exactly. With decent backing and with a professional management structure (and who knows...Fitton may yet do for Swindon what Madejski did for Reading) I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Ling's name back in contention. Or Hoddle's, for that matter. Maybe even Billy Davies.
The fact that Martin Allen is interested underlines my point, to be honest. He would be the cheap, sticking plaster option - and I wouldn't expect him to be with us for any longer than 18 months.

hoddle was on talk sport last night talking about his new academy he is just about to open. It takes young players released from clubs who hoddle and his staff has been keeping an eye on and will take them in, develop them and then send them to new clubs for trials after their game has improved. The academy would receive a development fee from the club if they decide to take the player on. He is really excited about it and was asked by ian wright if he would still be interested in the england job. He says he is focused on the academy so i don't think he would be interesed in coming back to swindon somehow. just put this on here to stop people dreaming he would come back. Academy sounds a great idea me thinks.

Ling hasn't actually denied interest in the job, all he's said is the off field problems need sorting. If they are, I think he'll be interested. Well I think he is interested tbh.
