Club Update
Posted on: Fri 29 Jun 2007

Swindon Town Football Club would like to reassure supporters that there is no cause for concern.

An announcement will be made early next week with positive news regarding the future of the Football Club.

The club would like to thank all supporters for their continued support.

What exactly should we have been concerned about that we no longer need to be concerned about?

Should I be concerned? What about worried? Is that more appropriate? Or maybe troubled? At what point should I consider being deeply concerned, worried, or troubled?

What I am though is fucking confused. I think... :?

Patronising tossers the lot of them - this lot beggar belief they really do.

They are problably into the "friday statement" thing and don't want to dissapoint by not saying anything.

I'm sure this investor is going to be a young entrepaner (sp?) that is a fan of stfc and has been for many years and wants to help the club.....move to Chippenham

Right,

I've had enough, i've been reading this website for many weeks now just to gauge the reaction of town fans to the goings on at the club in the last month or so. However, mr 'entrepaner' has snapped me out of my neutral ambience.

I am sick of this knee jerk reaction that town fans have to any statement published by the incumbent board. As soon as the board publish a statement people are quick to jump to cynicism, and take any opportunity to lay one into the board. Don't get me wrong, i'm not a fan of the board  but I do believe we should all be objective in our conjectures on these people.

I've seen many people making statements such as: where has the parkin money gone? wise compensation? lukas fee? etc etc. Well, to make any rational comment surely we would need to see the accounts first? surely that should be the only demand to place on the board? My guess is we have been accruing debts ever since the CVA was originally settled, hence we may not necessarily be able to use the money from the lukas transfer to pay the cva, it may be needed to pay current debts, not past.

Sturrock is an intelligent chap, if he wasn't he wouldnt have had so much success in management. He understands how the club ticks, and since hes come in I haven't felt better as a town fan. Listening to 'we are sturrocks red and white army' going back and forth across the County Ground took me back to the days of Hoddle and Shearer, it brought  a tear to my eye. I'm very confident that this will continue, Sturrock is building for the future, on what he perceives to be a strong foundation, and im inclined to believe him.

Mr 'entrepaner' and others, do not be so quick to dismiss what the board have to say. Take it at face value, consider it, think about it, dont jump to conclusions.

Oh, and let me know how you got on in your GCSEs.

Let me guess, you got two A stars in English?

All people want to know is whats going on within the club. Whats wrong with that? Most fans are very concerned worried that the club may no longer exist in a few days/weeks. The current board state that they want to be part of the community yet they don't keep the community informed....

how many statements about new investment have we seen in the last twelve months? how many times has new investment actually emerged?

i've tried to be as open minded as anyone but the board have said so much and produced so little that it's barely worth giving any creedence to what they say anymore. six months ago i'd have given them the benefit of the doubt, over the last month or two that has all but disappeared for me. talk is cheap when it comes to this lot.

i'd suggest that those are perfectly rational and sensible questions; as are any regarding up-to-date accounts. in the absence of such accounts, it is perfectly fair to question why our board are unable to afford a £900,000 payment - by their own admission - but have seen significant unbudgeted income put into the club by first bill power then through transfer fees.

the CVA is not settled but this should be their priority. however, judging by the attitude of both the board and the CVA supervisor, they're not particularly concerned about this. furthermore, the CVA is the current debt and the pressing concern at this moment in time. if we do not pay the bullet payment of £900k then it would result in the failure of the CVA with serious consequences. equally, in the unlikely event the CVA is renegotiated then we could receive a ten point deduction before the start of the season, potentially condemning us to another relegation.

all of which will be entirely irrelevent if the club fails to pay the CVA or are unable to renegotiate it. with all the will in the world, sturrock might be the greatest manager on earth but i sincerely doubt he is entirely aware of the situation at the club, nor the recent history.

if you take today's statement at face value it is totally meaningless. to consider and think about it would be to not take it at face value either, so i'm not sure where you're going with this.

i'd go back through some recent statements to highlight the inaccuracies, the misleading information, the mistruths and the 'mystery investors' but since the new website was launched, all of the past statements have presumably disappeared into thin air.
