On the face of it, you might think that the injury hit Bees survived a tough test from in form Swindon, and you would be right !
Swindon made a few changes with Aaron Brown, Andy Nicholas, Royce Brownue, Ashan Holgate and Fola Onibuje all coming into the team.
The Bees changed Mousinho for Skullason and Rhodes for Willock.
Osborne, Ide, Charles, Carder-Andrews and Sebastien Brown (gk) were on the bench
Brentford started brightly, and good wing play and interlinking between Brooker and Moore led to O'Connor placing a deft header into the far corner of the Swindon goal. O'Connor went off at half time for Osborne, after he failed to recover from the effects of an early head injury. However, not before the Bees went 2-0 up after more good passing play led to Joe Kuffour's 3rd of the season being slotted home after 25 mins.
Swindon, with Paul Evans, Ricky Shakes and Onibuje always a problem, fought their way back into the tie on 38 mins. A cross from the left, was flapped at by Nelson, not cleared by Griffiths and Heywood and Nicholas slotted the ball home from close range.
The second half was all action, both sides creating chances, but it was the home side who levelled the tie on 72 mins. Again the Bees failed to clear the ball, and an Evans wonder strike from the left hand edge of the area smacked the back of the net.
Both sides were not settling for penalties in extra time, Kuffour and Ide going close for Brentford, Griffiths clearing the ball from the line at the other end.
As the bookings mounted, Brownlie saw red for 2 yellows at the end of the extra time.
Taking the pens at the home end, Brentford faced a mountain when Tillen missed the target and pens from Evans and Ifil found the target.
Nelson then saved from Ashan Holgate while Curtis Weston fired over the bar, and successful Bees pens from Pinault, Heywood, Brooker and Nelson saw the away side through.

Griffiths 6 -good and bad decisons in equal measure
Brooker 5 -no effect on the game, cool for the penalty though
Mousinho 6 -didnt look assured in centre mid

Kuffour 7 -battled and caused the Swindon defence problems
