well, i wouldn't be surprised if this was a complete over reaction to somthing entirely trivial, but i guess we'll find out soon. it may well be but you can't take the chance can you. it's not just one persons life your playing with. it's hundreds/thousands up in the air who they were targeting

On the radio they say that no handbaggage will be allowed in the cabin (even mobile phones), it's all going in the hold. Considering the way most baggage handlers appear to handle the luggage on it's way to the hold I think we could be looking at this: "mass accidental murder of baggage handlers on an unimaginable scale" as the next headline..

OK Explosives in liquid form (nitro glycerine etc) are the most difficult to detect (xray machines will not pick it up) They will however pick up a detonator used ignite it.
Terrorist aren't stupid, they won't put the detonator and NG together prior to boarding as it will be detected (wires etc) so they sneak them on board seperately and assemble during the flight.
NG tastes bloody awful which is why they are making the passengers taste drinks they are taking on board - they won't allow liquid medicines because they can't force people to drink medicine (could prove a little controversial if my nan died of an overdose of liquid morphine)
Putting every in the hold makes perfect sense and is the most cost effective way of dealing with the problem... Why?
Because most baggage handlers are illegal immigrants on low wages, we all know that our baggage is treated like shit when we check it in, NG is highly volatile so if it's in your baggage it will be detonated long before the plane takes off

It's put in the hold because 'intelligence' says that the bombs were going to be hand detonated (i.e. in the cabin) and need to be assembled in the toilet.
The police have stressed that it wouldn't have happened today but soon. The reason flights have been stopped because security measures haven't been put in place yet. This allows security to be brung up to a standard that can detect these bombs, at the moment it isn't good enough.

I'd probably prefer to risk it than not be able to take anything on a plane. I do like to live on the edge though.

True about the xray stuff, but liquid explosives don't require a detonator. After mixing they are triggered by (not a lot of) impact. Which is worrying.
