In the Adver today there was a piece about Swindon trying to become the first place in England to have Wireless internet across the whole town.I know im being a bit thick here but we would still have to pay wouldnt we?

I don't see how they could police it, wireless networks are fairly easy to hack and if they want the whole town to be enabled surely it has to be an open network so anyone can access it without needing a password?

I hope they don't use BT to provide it. My wireless router is more tempramental than a pre-menstrual teen.

without knowing the ins and outs, I believe something like this is already in place in South Korea, so may be worth checking out how they have installed it.

Next generation 3G - 3.5G (HSDPA) is where it's at.
I've got my sticky paws on one of firsty Sierra Wireless cards for my laptop and it's faster than broadband. Only downside is that when it hits general release the data and connection charges are going to be like a twist to the scrotum.

They're giving it an 18 month trial in Norwich at the murment, 3 weeks in and it's been "glitch-free" so far.....

Not sure why the Beeb have given Norwich such a good write up considering Bristol city centre has had this for nearly two years ..
