Well, it appears our African American friends have found something else to be pissed about. A black congresswoman (this would be Sheila Jackson Lee, of Houston) reportedly complained that the names of hurricanes are all Caucasian-sounding names. She would prefer some names that reflect African-American culture such as Chamiqua, Woeisha, and Jamal. I can hear it now: A weatherman in Houston saying ...
"Wordup, Muthas! Herr-i-cane Chamiqua be headin' fo' Galveston like Leroy on a crotch rocket! Bitch be a category fo'! So, turn off dem chitlins, grab yo' chirren, leave yo crib, and head fo' de nearest FEMA office fo yo FREE shit!"

I thought some organisation agrees on the naming of hurricanes. I think it's the meteorological (sp?) organisation or something like that?

I think they swap between male and female names every year and they get chosen from a pre-aproved list, with names getting retired if one's particuarly destructive; there won't be another katrina again.

They alternate between male and female names and use a name for each letter of the alphabet

This thread has taken a serious twist. I don't like it.
(Well done FB on your hurricane knowledge. Just proves that Newsround remains a valuable source of information for the yoof of today).

I've always thought they named hurricans/tornados after the person that spotted it first.

Then I remembered.....that if it was a hurrican the bloke that spotted it first would of got washed away by a giant wave. I must of dreamt it or something.

Hurricanes involve the wind woman, not water.
Where your waves come from I'm not that sure.
