Title: Swindon Town v Mansfield matchday thread
Post by: 4D on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, 11:04:48
Sigh. Another defeat inbound.
Stags have sold 540 tickets so far, surprised, I thought they would have sold more.
I can see our crowds dwindling now until Boxing Day.

Swindon 0-3 Mansfield att: 8,222 (742 away)

Canít see why youíd think they are Mickey Mouse. Theyíre well run, have supportive owners and a manager given time despite having a record of falling at the final hurdle. Thatís what we aspire to isnít it - maybe not the bottling thing.

If we had a similar ownership our club could go places. Instead weíre stuck in a seemingly unbreakable cycle of dodgy owners, hopes raised and dashed on a regular basis and a sense of apathy setting in.

Our time will come. Just hope Iím still alive to witness it!

Unable to attend, so I'm sure we'll somehow manage a win, hopefully aided with a Flint red card in the opening minute.

In all reality, getting anything from this match will be a good result. 4-0 defeat

Watched back a clip of us at Walsall 3-0 2 seasons ago, final game of the season. How different the club feels from then to now... which makes me think, how/where did it all go wrong?

A large part for me is that Ben Chorley left (for personal reasons).

A model that worked with a director of football who was competent. We then replaced him with an incompetent non footballing version and then abandoned the entire model because one person was bad at it.

Every year since Chorley left we have got worse and worse at recruitment, the most important part of a successful football team.

I'd love us to try something different in this game.

Hutton wide of a front three for example.

                                               Mahoney

                   UGM               Brewitt       FBT             Kokolo

                                      Khan             McEachran

                                                 Kemp

                            Hutton                                Young

                                                  Austin

Something like that.

Or we do the usual and get pumped 2-5.

Something I said pre & post Harrogate - Iíd like to see try something different.

Similar to what youíve suggested above but Iíd have Young as the focal point and Austin out the XI.

Would prefer Kokolo wide left it that leaves FBT at LB & Minturn at CB as the only other way to line up on defence.

Iíd also make it a bit more of a 4411 than 4232

ÖbutÖagain Iíd just like to see us trying something differentÖ.

What an odd comment.

Depends on your definition of happy clapper.

Some think they are the ones that believe Clem is the Messiah and canít do anything wrong, whereas some think a happy clapper is anyone who doesnít believe Clem is the devil in disguise and is stripping the club bear of anything that isnít nailed down.

I would go with this too but feel we will stay with 3 at the back and persist with the out of form Austin.

If we did try 4 at the back then I would play McEachran and not Kinsella.

Flynn strikes me as a stubborn cuss. Canít see him changing a thing.

I still donít know if he set out to play the way we are or whether it was all he could fashion out of the players available.

Theyíve sold out their allocation of 604 - which seems a strange number.

What's odd is that there are other formations available to him with round-ish pegs in round-ish holes, as shown above.

Clearly we are not managers and he is on the training ground every day but it does seem odd.

At least Morris tried to mix it up, albeit with the ludicrous Wakeling at LWB experiment and so on.

I mean, if he does sign a CB or 2 in Jan I very much doubt theyíll be better than FBT or Dokes if he insists on continuing with the marauding CBs. If they are more in the mould of hairy-arsed L2 CBs then the present Ďsystemí goes out the window.

Will he just sign Ďmore of the sameí to bring numbers up?

Suspect that adding some physicality to midfield will be a priority.
A battle scarred CB option from the bench to help see out of games would be a nice to have.
Use all of the loans slots. Could be 4 available.

Lost the last 4 home games in all comps. Not good.
Difficult to see beyond a defeat but aim for an early goal or two & see what happens.
A draw would be fine, better than a defeat but a win is always preferable.  :)

I actually think midfield is a greater problem for us defensilvely than the CB's are.

The way we play then its difficult to improve on UGM/FBT. I'd like a more experience Central CB thats better defensively than what we have.

However the challenges i think we have are that Khan and McEachran get muscled off the ball, or caught up field and rarely offer any line of defense when we lose the ball in transition.

It doesn't help that Kemp presses so high up (a good thing generally) because he has to do Austins work. Which means we rarely have 3 in midfield defensively, especially on transition. Austin sometimes trys and works back there but he doesn't have the legs.

So currently we are asking a lot of Kemp/Young to press high up and track back as the 3rd body in midfield. And the two deeper midfielders we have are pretty lightweight and poor defensively. I like McEachran but he is better winning the ball higher up as well when he nips in and grabs the ball.

So if we continue with this 3 at the back with attacking CB's, which seems to be the Flynn model, then for me we need to look at replacing Austin (who's goal contribution has been poor anyway), upgrading the central CB, and looking to get at least one proper defensive physical midfielder. I'm not sure Kinsella quite performs that midfield role.

Of course its complicated if/when Young and Kemp are recalled anyway!

Pushing Dokes and FBT to Full back or wingback positions is something I've been after for a while.

The outside CBs going for a wander in a three is fine when you're scoring 3 to 5 goals every week but right now its suicide.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Mansfield pre match drivel and matchday thread
Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 11:49:28
I do wonder if *one* of Dokes and FBT staying at CB is fine, it's just having both of them going roaming which causes issues. If we had two Brewitt-type solid CBs and one of the roaming types, we might retain a bit of attacking threat whilst being more solid than we have been.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Mansfield pre match drivel and matchday thread
Post by: Mooneyraker on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 11:52:26
I think that most of the problems come from a lack of a proper DM (Grant/Douglas type) who just sits in front of Brewitt and can drop in, and the WBs not offering anything defensively in this set up.

It is suicidal. If they turn us over and skip through Khan and McEachran it is Brewitt left scrambling on his own with 2 or more players left to mark.

Riddick beat me to it and Mooney has also touched on some similar thoughts I had earlier. (as I was daydreaming in the gym)

I do agree with pretty much what both have said, in that I think our midfield is a problem. Stockport showed that by dominating proceedings against us and enjoying the time and space their talented players had. We attack in numbers and when the ball is turned over we leave ourselves exposed with massive gaps in the middle of the pitch. I know he's been dismissed as being unable to do this but would we be better of anchoring Kinsella in that DM position? Walsall fans described him as being a good reader of the ball and tigerish in the tackle, but about as creative as a 'kick me' sign in a 90's comprehensive. So why not have him playing just in front of the back 3?

I also agree that Charlie is wasting energy in midfield due to the issues, I actually think he's shattered, as more often than not after doing good work in winning the ball back he then plays a 'lazy' pass, or hits the ball out of play or whatever. It's a shame Cain is injured as I think Flynn may have been able to try something a bit different. We really don't have the personnel and it's really beginning to tell.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Mansfield pre match drivel and matchday thread
Post by: Mooneyraker on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 13:38:29
Agreed. Even try Brewitt at DM with Minturn behind him perhaps? We need bite and Khan and McEachran don't have that in their game.

Post by: ChalkyWhiteIsGod on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, 13:58:05
Yeah we're crying out for a hard DCM and have Brewitt and Clayton under contract last year who both have experience with it. Should have been giving that a go in the dead rubber games at the end of the season.

                     Kemp

                    Young

If Flynn had any sense, this is what he would do.  Our current approach is suicidal.

It's still not a team that looks scary to me, very weak in the middle, but if we are going to just leave Hutton and Kokolo upfront anyway, we really need the defenders behind to deal with attacks.

I think bitter about being shafted by Sandro/Lindsey/Clem on a contract I think...

But he came back for preseason last year looking like Roy Chubby Brown, so his attitude clearly isn't great, which is why a player of his quality is languishing in the fourth tier.

Really?

Reed is 10x the player McEachran is.

2021-22 Reed, no question.

2022-23 Reed, broadly similar.

McEachran just seems to lack fight/desire. As evidenced by how many times he fails to close down a player who either shoots or crosses the ball for an opposition goal. Technically gifted but somehow 'empty'.

Fuck him. He was shite. Wouldn't get in our midfield now unless McEachran,Khan or Kemp were all injured

I was no fan of Reed at all but only Kemp from that list is better than him.
Khan is more energetic but less technically savvy.
McEachran reminds me a lot of Reed. Good on the ball, technically tidy. Doesn't go forward, creates very few chances and doesnít score any goals.

I donít think Reed makes this team any better but doesnít make it any worse either - it would just be exactly the same as it is nowÖ

Kemp has a higher ceiling but Payne vs FGR at home in the play off season when we went down to 10 men was one of the great individual performances I've ever seen. At his best he was right up there. Probably slightly tainted by being duff for most of the relegation year.

Kemp is our only "good" midfielder and he isn't ours.

The rest are all much of a muchness in terms of ability levels (if not style).  Middle of the road L2 types, the sort you have sat on the bench or used when you need a body.  There is a reason we have been average for a year and bit now.

Kemp is probably on a par with Payne, but they play different roles.  Payne was found out in L1 a little, I thought, be interesting to see if Kemp has the same struggles.

Agree Kemp, Payne worked hard but was not as creative or dynamic as Kemp.  Main difference though it that Payne was ours, Kemp is not.  If the question was Kemp loan or Payne permanent then i pick Payne.

No shit Sherlock

Michael Flynn on what it takes to get promotion:

You need experience, but you also need a bigger squad, especially this year when you are playing longer games. Just because you have a big budget doesn't mean you are going to get out of the league, but it does help you build a squad over a period of time. That is what we haven't had.

Yeah, not so much a change of tone as a 180 degree change of direction.

All well and good now he has his cosy contract. Doesn't reflect well on him to be honest. At least Morris moaned consistently from the get go!

Off topic warning:
Kemp or Payne? I think Kemp is a hybrid of Payne and Williams.

I think all 3 are 'luxury' players - You can afford one if the rest of the team is balanced and can cover.

I would like us to take the old George Graham 'boring Arsenal' approach in building a solid back line first. Add a solid midfield that is defensively minded, but has pace and creativity to break teams down. Then, ideally, someone up top who can put the ball in the back of the net when its on the ground or in the air!

Bringing it back into context. Having a big lump like Flint at the back and offering a massive threat up top from corners would be a good start.

I still think 0-2 or 1-3 with Mansfield comfortably seeing out the game without breaking sweat.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Mansfield pre match drivel and matchday thread

Kemp is a better technically gifted player than Payne but Iíd almost go as far to say Payneís hustle and bustle makes him a more effective L2 player than Kemp is - certainly in a Ďwhen the chips are downí sort of way.

Kemp wouldnít look out of place (in fact probably more at home) in the Championship where as Payne wouldnít.

Payne was a bit of a leader on the pitch too and dragged people along with him - something Kemp canít do bit heís not as far into his career as Payne was when he was here.

Not dismissing the wider points made above, but Dan Kemp is not, imo, a "luxury" player or less "effective" than say Jack Payne.

Not a single player at any other L2 club has contributed a higher sum of league goals and assists so far this season.

If you include Swindon, then a certain Jake Young, has contributed a higher sum of goals and assists.

Dan Kemp can't do everything on his own.  He's not a DM but he is very active in closing down opposing players when they're in possession.  It's for the other 10 (or 9) on the field who need to be more effective and better organised or coached, imo.

Particularly with Brewitt out.
With that starting XI whoís the back 4 and who are the wingers?

Dokes, Minturn & FBT make up 3/4 for the a flat back 4 with means you need either Hutton or Kokolo in at full back. If thatís the case - letís say we drop Kokolo back there then who goes wide left of the midfield - Hutton, Khan, Kinsella, McEachran? Or Kemp to make it 451?

More likely three in the back, but at least it's recognized that Chas wasn't helping much in midfield in his withdrawn position, contributing to the other outfielders having to do too much running, fading in the last 20 minutes or so.

Going back to Rocking Robin. In the mid to late 90s we changed him up from the big normal looking Robin to a more streamline super hero Robin.

Iím sure I remember he debuted by zip lining from one of the floodlights or something.

At some point by the early 2000s the design changed to the currently one bit he kept the super hero look and Iím sure he used to have a cape as well but only has the maskÖ

a) fuck me we're playing with fire
b) we break through the press and the midfield has been bypassed and the ball goes back to Mansfield

Out of possession we seem to be "banked" up. Khan is looking at who is behind him when we have the ball.

It feels like we're lurching from gung-ho to being overly controlling. whether that's the opponent or Flynn's realised we needed a different approach...

The team are passing runners off to team mates and trying to not be quite so exposed.

Some really good performances , minturn looking better and better, great finish from young and kinsella has broken up play many times.
Let's not forget this is arguably one of the best teams in the league and our confidence must be shot so hats off for the change in tactic and the first 45 minutes performance

We're doing okay. Maybe lucky to be ahead but we don't deserve to be behind either. We're doing some good stuff and some bad stuff, Mansfield look a more structured above average side.

Happy to be where we are but I think we're all thinking that we're at the top of the first half table, but they're top of the full time table and the second half could be brutal.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Mansfield pre match drivel and matchday thread

Although there has been no stand out moments from him, i think Kinsella is making more of a difference in this game than he has previously.  Doing a lot of the dirty work and hassling that largely goes unoticed.  Khan has been the driver and McEachren trying to do the technical stuff (which at the moment is not paying off) but the bussyness of Kinsella has meant that some of the spaces that we have seen previosuly have been filled, at least some of the time, which is a step forward.

You can tell we started like a team low on confidence and the first 5 was waiting for Mansfield to score.

We settled and started to find space a deserved half time lead.

Minturn is man of the match so far, so much composure (twice too much on his turn and runs) but winning all of the tackles and reading the play so well.

If we can look after him he can be an incredible asset. He still has a big mistake in him but he will only get better with age.

Very much a defensive performance and reliant on young and kemp to link up and create which they have.

Kinsella is looking much more settled after a run of games.

Kokolo needs to offer a lot lot more. If he doesn't improve I'd look at genesini quite quickly

I fucking love Minturn. None of this is his fault, he's being thrown in at the deep end. He's had to contend with Bowery, Akins, Flint amongst others and he was brilliant. Yes he's going to make mistakes, but he could easily shy away from duels, challenges and from wanting to receive the ball in dangerous areas but he's got something about him to show some personality. I really really hope it works out for him here because it would be class to have an academy lad at the heart of the defence for years to come.

Also rational head says we created similar clear cut chances as them overall too, 6 each on target and we had 20 shots in total vs 15 for them.

I'm as miserable as they come but for me that was deserved today. I think we looked just as likely as them going forward. We tried to win the match by playing football where as they just resorted to long ball.

Minturn is going to be a solid player I just dont like how we HAVE to play him, hes doing fine, hes young and will make mistakes we just hope that they dont capitalise on the mistakes when he makes them. He made a few very good tackles and interceptions today.

Judging by how their first team only just beat our U18s in midweek that does not shock me.

Absolutely, if we played either Kemp, Young or Austin against them we would probably have beaten them in all honesty. God awful team.

Hope this is a kickstart for Kinsella as well, we looked much more solid (than us normally, still occasionally heart stopping compared to most football teams) with the extra man in midfield and him sitting clearly freed up Khan to play his best game for ages in a more box to box way. McE off the pace today but hope we stick with three central rather than just dropping McEachran.

For all we rightly complain about inexperienced signings, Kinsella was exactly the right profile but it just hasn't worked yet. Let's hope this is the moment it does.

Flynn:
- Good for everyone. We all needed it
- Fans have stuck with us in the last month, when we should have won more
- Solid performance for the whole game
- They have been working hard and the players are as fed up as the rest of us
- Talk is cheap but they have proved themselves today
- We are still only 2 points outside the playoffs after a bad month
- Austin as sub: Didnt change the dynamic. We were concerned about Reed running the game and their diamond over running us in midfield
- The formation meant that if we won the ball upfield then Kemp could find space
- Austin has been brilliant for Flynn. Told Austin he needed a rest.
- Its hard. We have a small squad. But Austin understood.
- Poor goal to concede. Lapse of concentration
- We should have had a clear penalty. Ref admitted to Flynn that he got it wrong a bit later on in the game
- Justice done that we went on to score. Thought it might have been like last week when we were robbed
- Got what we deserved with the win
- Minturn: Thought he was excellent. He was very good last week too
- Now Hawes should stop asking about whether conceding late is down to fitness. Its not. We scored in the 93rd min
- Brewitt: Tendonitis. RHM: Sore knee. Nothing sinister.

Unnecessary flippant comment about Andrew Hawes. Considering the way games have generally gone it's an absolutely fair question from the interviewer

In 5he interview  bit about late goals conceded MF was saying it was lapses in concentration rather than fitness.

The follow up question (perhaps not straight after the whistle - maybe in a pre match presser) is whether the lapses in concentration are the result of mental fatigue rather than a physical fitness issue ( the latter they will talk about running stats using the gps data, you canít measure mental tiredness in the same way.)

Still a great feeling to get a late winner. COYR

Against Harrogate after the ball got stuck in the tree, when Austin came off and Minturn went to DM, the Town looked far more solid.  Sacrificing Austin for more midfield solidity against the counter was key, today.  When Mansfield put Flint up top late on, I wondered why it took so long to bring Austin on.  Midfield was being bypassed and it would put Cloughie in a quandary, bring Flint back to defend or leave him up there.  Cloughie didn't choose wisely.

Flint has had an incredible goal scoring record throughout his career including a number of late pivotal goals (for Sheff Wed in playoffs last season I think and for us against Brentford for instance). He is very well suited to that tactic.

That was an excellent game of football against two evenly matched sides.
That was a penalty second half.
The game got stretched as it went on and was scenes of jubilation. Didnít look 8,000 today, gaps in DR and TE but not having any negativity tonight because the last few weeks have just been depressing.

We simply needed a win and typical football always a game you least expect it in.

Thought it was a thoroughly good game of football today.  For periods of the game, Mansfield had the upper hand with their man to man press and numbers in midfield, but the space Kemp found without the burden of being the third midfielder was everything he needed.

The extra man in midfield caused two things, I think.  First, it stopped both of the wide central defenders from pushing too far ahead too quickly - the midfield had the space ahead of them, preventing us from going too cavalier.  The other aspect was that we had number centrally when Mansfield got the ball.  It's still a weak bunch defensively, but having six in there at least causes space to be at a premium.  Even if we don't track a runner or watch a player drift away from a marker, there isn't a huge gulf for them to be found in.  It allows us to gather our senses a little.  Now, it did make it a bit harder to build and sustain pressure going the other way, but I think that played into Kemp and Youngs hands a little, they both like to run at people rather than be part of a big build up.

Still going to be a challenge to sustain form when you inly really have one or two players worthy of bringing on, and on another day they may well have bagged three or four goals, like Stockport.  Overall though, I think that line-up gave us more of a chance of being in the game.

Walking up to the ground yesterday I was quite fearful but extremely glad to have been walking away from the ground with some of my enthusiasm for the club restored.

Thought that was excellent yesterday, everyone looked up for it. Watching players like Young and Kemp not shy away from aerial challenges with big Flint was a good watch and huge shoutout to Minturn yesterday, not faultless but doing a great job and the experience heíll gain from holding his own against players like Akins (and then Flint) will stand him in good stead.

Definitely some shakey moments. Poor defending for their goal and they had several cut back chances to a player with acres of space in the box that they squandered which if scored would have us talking very differently but they didnít and when on a run like we were, you take any sort of win and especially against an unbeaten side.

At the end of the day, a very enjoyable game and god did we as a fanbase need that, glad to see Austin coming on and contributing.

The cynicism within me reminds me that this is just one game and weíve got a lot of work still to do until January and that weíre still in big trouble with Kemp and Young taken out of the side but letís just enjoy yesterday for a little bit before Tuesday.

And finally, always nice to send Nigel Clough home disappointed again.

I watched back the extended highlights. You can see that Khan has his arms wrapped round Lewis and pulls him to the ground as he passes to the Manfield player that UGM toe pokes the ball away from. It then goes to Young who bursts forward and is brought down for the free kick that leads to the goal.

Anyway, watch yourselves:

A very good entertaining game.
Nothing beats a winner in added time even more so when it's a significant result.
Felt that Mansfield were easier to play against than Stockport but should make the play offs at least.
Quite a rustic approach to put Flint up front with a good chunk of the game still left, but I get the thinking, apart from playing diagonals with varying degrees of success he was largely underemployed in defence.

The extra body in midfield made a noticeable difference but a different challenge awaits on Tuesday & Young might be needed to hold the ball up a bit more, assuming that the setup will be the same.

I think that Kemp did well with efforts at goal from free kicks when with Hartlepool but they've pretty poor this season so far.
Maybe he is due for one to fly into the top corner.
Good that we didn't concede any free kicks in Reed range yesterday.

When you consider they hit the bar at 1-1 & we scrambled the ball clear, whereas we managed to force the ball home itís easy to see a different outcome.

The most pleasing thing is the fact that (and he can see it) we were good value for a point.

The extra body in midfield made us much more stable, and was pleased that Kinsella had a good game. There was a point in the first half where they broke on us and he was last man, and he did enough to slow them down so we could regroup.

Andy Thomson, Adi Viveash...going back a bit now though...agree about Minturn...

Honestly canít remember Thompson. Iíd put Viveash in the Ďjust about OKí category.

Minturn looks like he could progress very well.

Flint was decent in the Danny Wilson era.

Flint was decent in the Danny Wilson era.
I was thinking of players who came through from the youth set up but we did give Flint his league debut so I guess you could count him as well.

Viveash came good eventually after a few loan spells and was playing pretty well by the time he left for Reading...

Is N.Thompson classed as a RB or a CB these days? Either way I really liked him at RB when he broke through, tough in the challenge and capable of moving up and down the pitch.

Didnít produce him, though. Was it Alfreton we got him from?

Nicky Sumerbee could play left & right back and right wing.

Apart from the big part he played in their goal and the mistake he made that nearly lead to another goal. He did do lots of things well though and is only young.

Yes, then sent him straight back on loan to them after one game i think

Di Canio loved him though

Depends on your definition of decent I guess, you could say Tozer, albeit he didnít play much for us had a decent league career.

Going back a bit further Kenny Stroud.

Minturn did well against some seasoned operators, but was still badly at fault for their goal and nearly caught out for another

Ideally heíd be getting these mistakes out the way in the national league

To qualify as Ďone of our owní he has to come through the youth team.

Budgie brought Morrison in from Plymouth, but I think played for the youths at first.

From FB.

Did anyone pick up a red club shop bag yesterday from the Don Rogers stand at the end of the game yesterday ?..the bag had the new 3rd shirt, and many other items in it....
I left celebrating a great win and in the excitement left it behind,...realised before leaving the car park and went back for it but it was gone...asked in reception, shop and stewards but sadly wasn't handed in..😔😪gutted as some gifts for the kids in there and tainted a great win..

Brought in at 16 with Tozer and Ben Joyce I think when Plymouth didn't offer them scholarships? Expensive decision that one. Maybe Seb Broomfield as well?

Nice to meet you properly BO in the glue pot   8)

For once I have read back and I'd like to say it was also good to meet you and Flash in the gluepot beforehand. After all these years as well! :)

As for the game itself, I thought Mansfield started the game strongly and with confidence and I feared it was only a matter of time before they got the opening. But with that said, they didn't really create anything clear cut, it just looked like they had 'control'. After seeing out that spell, we started to come into it and Khan, Kemp and Kinsella were working well in midfield and the ball was sticking with Young up front. The one part of our game you can see we have worked on in training is set-pieces, particularly corners but that free kick Kemp dinked into Young to guide into the corner must be one of those goals that coaches love, as you assume a lot of time is spent in training on it. I was enjoying Minturn's performance in particular. He was strong in the tackle and brought the ball out of defence really well. A really confident performance.

Unfortunately second half they subbed off Bowery for Akins up top and it completely changed the dynamic. All of a sudden Minturn was shaky and Mansfield quickly equalised after a bad bit of defending. The second half was quite open and whilst I did fear Mansfield would score, apart from them hitting the bar all of their other chances were kind of half-chances which were often straight at Mahoney. Chucking Flint up front was an interesting tactic and even more interesting was not even challenging him for a header. I guess when you have a 6ft6 beast in the air, not challenging him means you have an extra body to pick up the flick on etc? We through on Charlie, I figured to help defend Flint's danger but after a patient bit of play Shade put in a lovely ball, Charlie met it perfectly onto the post, the ball coming back to him to swivel and shoot, which was blocked back to Young, it hit the post again and finally smashed home by Young to grab a much needed 3 points. There is nothing better than a last minute winner in front of the Town End is there?

Overall, I've said in the MOM thread that I thought sacrificing Charlie for an extra body in midfield felt like the right change. Kemp and Young look energised (huge holes to fill in January) and Khan played his best game for a long time. At the back I think UGM is the more reserved CB, I guess that makes sense as he is the fastest and will be able to cover best when we lose the ball in transition. FBT (in particular) and Minturn could step nicely into midfield to offer extra bodies. I think Minturn plays with a lot of confidence for a young kid, terrific first half but I think after Akins came on he looked a bit less composed. It was great for him to get 90 in such an important game though.

Havent looked back.

That was unexpected and well needed. A shot in the arm for everyone!

Thought we were good value for it.

Mansfield and obvious good side, on that single showing to me, Stockport looked better but i think they will be in that top three for sure.

A pen shout either end that should of been given, so cancelled out.

Anyway....a bit of joy at last!

Absolutely, they have no idea what happened previously, Reed is just another ex player, Flint made himself disliked.
