Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Audrey on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, 17:33:35 As of today they have sold 353 tickets. So should be around 500 - double what anyone else has this season, although still nothing to shout about being about 80 miles away.
It’s a while since I really looked forward to matchdays but Flynn has got us rocking. No doubt he’ll be wanting to stuff his old team. Should be 9000+ to witness a piece of piss, 4-1. Last 4 games at the CG they have averaged just 346 for each game. Likely to be the same this time give or take a few, doubt they will bring near 500. They are in 9th place but they are unbeaten in 4 league games, they have scored 11 and conceded 11 and on 11 points. Walsall have only 1 away win (Salford on Saturday) since their last away win at Swindon on Boxing day last year. Their top scorer is on just 2 goals but with 4 players on 2 goals each. We are in 5th place unbeaten in our last 7 league games, we have scored 20 and conceded 11 so far. Our top scorer is the top goalscorer in all English leagues on 9 goals, 2 higher than the next highest scorer in England. We have Kemp on 6 goals who is equal 3rd highest scorer in the English leagues. Their results so far this season.... Morecambe 2-1 Walsall Blackburn 4-3 Walsall *EFLC Walsall 2-1 Stockport Wrexham 4-2 Walsall Crewe 2-2 Walsall Walsall 2-3 Brighton U21 *EFLT Walsall 1-1 Grimsby Walsall 1-0 Colchester Salford 1-2 Walsall Walsall have won 2 times in the last 11 meetings at the County Ground, Town winning 4. Walsall have won 7 times in the last 33 meetings at the County Ground, Town winning 13. Our biggest wins were 5-0 in 2022 and 5-0 in 1927, Walsalls biggest wins at the CG were 1-4 wins 2000 and 1939. In all games between the us at the CG Swindon have won 24 games, 15 draws and 14 defeats, Town scoring 105 and Walsall scoring 75 goals. In all games between the clubs at both venues Swindon have won 39 of the 105 games, 30 draws and 36 defeats with Town scoring 159 goals and Walsall scored 155 goals. Could go either way. Are we 1970's Brazil in disguise? ;D It genuinely surprised me too. The stat that was also a shocker was that we have scored more goals in the first 6 games of the season that any other team outside of the Premier League since the formation of the Championship in 2004, bearing in mind that included a 0-0 draw! Used to park in The Grove but not sure if their car park has a time limit nowadays. The Grove is now a Miller and Carter restaurant. We used to also utilise the Grove, have a couple of pints and leave the car in their car park. Miller & Carter do a decent lunch menu (used to be something like 2/3 courses for £xx) so we used to get a bite and then leave the car there before walking to the ground. That's a couple of seasons back now, so not sure of the current situation but I think if you buy something there, they don't bother if you leave your car there for football. I would say that this season only Gills, Notts County, Wrexham, AFC Wimbledon, Grimsby, Bradford, and Stockport will bring more than that and MKD, Newport and possibly Mansfield may bring about the same amount. Thats 10 clubs that will bring more than 400, so many use the excuse that the cost (£27) is way too much for L2 football. Which I agree it is, but we are by no means the only club with tickets at that level so its a fucking lame excuse as at least they have a seat and it has a good elevated view and covered from the elements which 50% of the clubs in this league do not have. Here’s the best bit. After fifteen minutes I drive round the back of the CGH onto county road and back round and parked in front of the barrier, back far enough for those hoards of ‘special’ ST car park holders who will rock up while I’m in their way. Then he waved me forward and opened the barrier at 10.47. So he made me wait about 15 minutes in which time three fucking cars had turned up, yes three. So in fact I was truly surprised. Got my tickets and now back home watching bangers and cash feeling rather smug at myself for not losing it. Jesus, you can understand in this day and age why people do get angry very quickly. In the USA I’d have returned with an AK47 and an assortment of hand guns. Just hope after all that that we win. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 14:25:33 They are a bitter lot on that saddlers forum, aren't they? Fuck yeah, bunch of inbred Dingle fucking cunts.Quote from: Walsall Forum FK me popped on the Swindon forum you’d think they were a recently relegated Prem side, moaning about how many we are bringing. We could only dream of having the catchment and home support they get but such is where we are located. % of home support who go away is no doubt the same if not higher. Bout 600 there is like them bringing over a thousand here. Ridiculously high and mighty for a club we’ve mixed with on and off for years and years Boring as fook, odd club who are mixing it in the basement the same as us at the end of the day. I’d pipe down. Best they just stick to cheating, it’s what they are good at. I’ve come across some ‘special’ Swindle fans on social media in the past. They have a high opinion of themselves, which is fair enough I guess, but as you say they are slumming it with us. Our away support is class even through some of the shittest of times for us They just might be the biggest attendance nonces of the lot, these. They think everyone outside of Swindon sees them as some massive club but in reality, no one does. All Swindon is to me is a club constantly riddled with debt looking to scramble it’s way out of. Yep always been a well supported club (but never classed as big tbh) much like the two bristols but there’s not a fat lot of competition round there so they should be pulling decent gates. They said the same about our support last year like a broken record could understand it more coming from a side such as Bradford but them? get fooked. With walk ups there will probably be 600+ Walsall fans there tomorrow. Plenty of times I’ve been to Swindon where it’s been below 400, so it’s absolutely fine considering our home support and generally woeful away record in 2023. That’s without mentioning the ludicrous ticket prices. We’ve got this Simple away win For those going today, remember look up when Swindon have the ball They took just over 700 to Doncaster last game and they have sold 400 so far for their trip to morecambe next weekend. They’re hardly massive are they? Let’s see how many they take to Crewe for £27 Flynns current CV is the most fourth division ever. I think this is his sixth successive season trying to get a side up and out of this league. I hope for him the human being he does it one day - just not with this lot. Swindlers. Bunch of sados who obsess over atendance statistice to delude themselves into thinking their more than just a bog standard lower league club like everyone else. Agree with all the people that can’t stand Swindon though. I’ve never known a fan base so obsessed with attendances, especially when their ground is less than half empty every week. They are one of the wankiest clubs in the country. £27 is a joke. Ours are £23 for away fans which is also too expensive, but they do have a family deal for Kids for an extra £2 for some games. Anyway just landed in Swindon, makes Walsall (which thankfully I left a few years ago) look like Mayfair Vile football club Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 14:27:04 Khan to Uwakwe fuck up and Walsall have a shit but Mahoney is easily equal to it, corner to them.

Charlie back in the goals bodes well.
Some really careless passing from us when we have won the ball back near our own box. Most of Walsall’s best bits coming from us. A mix of poor decision making and poor execution. After the first 15, they have defended the centre of the pitch well, we need to try to get Kemp on the ball more, he looks threatening every time he gets the ball. Khan on a yellow feels like a slight worry for the 2nd half. Brewitt had a particularly good game. Young off it, Khan off it, the rest very good. They didn’t look a bad side but had little to offer up top. As per, the ref made a few strange decisions - none more so than stopping the game so the ball girl behind the TE could shift the plastic blue ball holder thingy a couple of yards to the right. Poor Joe Acklam got it with both barrels from Flynn, which was a bit odd…

Did we look absolutely solid and composed at all times? Did we fuck! But we kept another clean sheet and that is very important. Austin got his goal while Young looked ineffective. Honestly i think it's a case of defenders attention. Austin has been brilliant this season without getting the goals and today it was Youngs turn to do a bit of donkey work for a change. All In all, this is the closest I've seen to a Parkin and Monloney combo since Doyle and Yates. As for Walsall. Bunch of fucking mongs for fans. Midfield the only thing I’m not fully sold on atm- easy to get through it, but thought Mceachran and Khan were very good second half. Young and Kemp way off it today, but good we can still win without them two contributing. Austin deserved his goal and RHM grabs another. Farquharson and no 8 very good for them. Fans very good today - could tell atmosphere helped in passages of play. Shite turnout from Walsall. Onwards and upwards. Michael Flynn is the man- great talker.

Was expecting a bit more from Walsall, but the clean sheet was never really under threat and they weren't good enough to exploit the space from the limited opportunities to counter. The glaring individual errors from last season have largely been eliminated (so far), so the game plan of sitting back & waiting for us to make a mistake might need a rethink on whiteboards up and down the country. Title: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread inclu Post by: Batch on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 09:03:22 Quote We put the TE to shame as per usual.😘 pah, couldn't hear you from the town end!We had it rocking up there at the Back, getting more and more joining in. last year the te sounded weak from the drs. can only conclude I'm really loud at singing and everyone else are church mice Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 10:23:03 How wound be he be 5th choice when we only have 3 strikers? On current form - he’d be 4th choice right now, granted. RHM has a bad injury record and Young will be gone in January. So he could/would potentially be 2nd choice in a few months. I guess we will see….in a few months time… Kemp can play a 10. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 10:25:28 pah, couldn't hear you from the town end! last year the te sounded weak from the drs. can only conclude in really loud at divining and everyone else are church mice Agree last season the DRS very quiet. Yesterday the loudest for some time. The TE sadly is very quiet. Maybe in time to come with a developed TE (😞) we can get an end bouncing like Wrexham. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Kaufman on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 10:33:10 They reckon it was more likely Flynn didn’t want to shake hands. They think Sadler had something to do with his sacking so he could take over. Forgot. Another nice cameo from Shade. I read that too. If you watch the footage on YouTube saddler walks onto the pitch before Flynn even has a chance. Anyways. Shaping up nicely. Does anyone know?

Does anyone know? Spooky, I was thinking of him before the game. I do enjoy his honest and balanced approach. His grandad ever the optimist seems to be on something 😁 Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 10:58:38 Morecambe had their main striker red carded yesterday, after 2 yellows thus will be missing next week.

It looks like they may have had a pie and a pint and walked all the way from the Moonrakers unless they've parked the car in a side street off of Cricklade Road. Bullets dodged there. Bullets dodged there. Danny Johnson who came off the bench and Priestly Farquason (sp) who I thought looked good. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Audrey on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 13:40:09 What about that big fella at the back - Daniels? Young very nearly picked his pocket in the 2nd half.
Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Kaufman on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 13:41:09 Farquharson from Newport who looked good. DJ was heavily rumoured to have nearly signed but went to Walsall with wages and Flynn loves Daniels who I think was rumoured too.
They’re all good players. Flynn and Hatswell so far have shown they can pick a player for sure Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: DV on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 13:42:24 Did they have 3 players playing who we were supposed to be interested in signing? Bullets dodged there. Said at the time Danny Johnson had all but agreed to sign for us then Walsall came in with more money (and we tried Harry Smith) 7 games in and seems like it worked out well enough for us. After January it might look a bit different… Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: DV on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 13:43:07 Close enough that DJ was going to be announced at the kit launch

Let it go, guys. You lost a game. We’ll lose one some time! Probably. Maybe. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Sunday, September 17, 2023, 18:08:40 They should be thankful they got a team nestled between all those big clubs.
Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: 4D on Monday, September 18, 2023, 07:47:05 All their comments about we think we are a big club slumming it in league 2. Think they'll find most town fans consider ourselves a league 1 club at best. Upper league 1 of course ;)
Seem a bit of a sour bunch. Football fans peculiarly obsessing about a previous manager, you'd never find that happening at Swindon would you :D :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick: ::) Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: DV on Monday, September 18, 2023, 10:49:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8nHQKyZ8sk&pp=ygURc3dpbmRvbiB2IHdhbHNhbGw%3D This is the one I was thinking of. That’s the fella. Obviously only ever watch the ones he does when Walsall are playing us but also found his thoughts pre & post match to be extremely fair, non biased & accurate tbh. There are paid media people who do a much worse job than he does. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: UTR on Monday, September 18, 2023, 12:41:01 A slight negative, I just caught up on the post match interviews and heard Flynn digging out who I’m assuming is the Adver guy for the Austin article.
I was a bit confused at that, not sure that article warranted that reaction but each to their own I guess and he probably felt a need to defend his players. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Oaksey Moonraker on Monday, September 18, 2023, 13:02:54 The Adver articles today are quite positive about comparing unbeaten starts to other seasons and why we have kept 3 clean sheets in 4.
Maybe if the headline had been 'is Charlie doing too much for the team and not himself?, the context to the article would be better but that doesn't make a good headline. I think Saturday highlighted how much Charlie does for the team to occupy defenders who mark him closely and take the physical stuff. Jake Young found that same attention harder on Saturday but we have 3 strikers giving good performances in different ways so bodes well. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, September 18, 2023, 13:24:11 Is anyone able to paste what the article about CA actually said? I'm assuming it's basically saying he's being more of a team player which is benefitting the team, but also hindering his goalscoring at the same time? It's not a negative hit piece is it surely?

These are a great watch at the moment. Title: Re: Swindon Town v Walsall Matchday Thread including moans & groans Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, 13:25:40 Must say seeing and hearing a bit more about the dynamic between Flynn and Sadler at Walsall certainly makes the Gunning exile of the summer a lot easier to understand - if he felt in his previous role that a member of his staff was working against him, it probably makes sense that he wouldn't want someone he doesn't know and who has managerial ambitions around the first team group.
