I was able to buy a video match pass for tomorrow, I guess that's due to the international break for some reason.

It should be a good test on Saturday, Grimsby have started the season better than their non-league fellow promoted side Stockport who many fancied to 'piss the league'. There are a few interesting team snippets that warrant some discussion.

Injuries to Lavinier and MacDonald. Are they fit? If not, I am pretty comfortable that Baudry/Brennan can slot in at centre back and Hutton has started to look good at RB.

Who replaces Williams? I guess Darcy or (unlikely) Aguiar.

Good minutes in midweek for Ellis and RHM who sounded very lively. It will be good to get continued minutes in the legs this weekend as getting these guys up to match sharpness should mean we have great squad competitiveness for the winter months.

Think Old Macdonald is OK. Not sure on Lavinier. Khan for Williams I reckon. Murphy to come on for last 20 minutes. Lindsey said he wasn’t too keen on Jephcott and The Wakeling starting together.

I think I said this in a matchday thread - I think we'd be much more positive on Hutton if we were a target man side. Paul Sturrock would have loved him!

For me Khan man of the first half just edging Gladders but overall,Wakeling put in an amazing shift, especially when we went down to 10

Not enough has been said about that touch and run between the two defenders by Darcy before the shot that lead to Jephcotts goal.

Appreciate I’m camera side but the Khan second yellow is not even a foul is it? Ball to be won, Grimsby player slides in. Khan tries to put his foot on the ball. Grimsby player gets to the ball first. I can only assume Khans foot came down onto the Grimsby and it’s been deemed a foul due to a (accidental non malicious ‘stamp’)

Really pleasing performance because we had to do everything that game.

We had to play good football and take our chances to get in front. We had to play a man down and dig in, we had to see out the game. We had to deal with using subs we weren’t planning on use due to injures and we had to throw ourselves at it to see the game out….and we did.

A lot of the above is things we were not capable of doing last season under Garner

Absolutely spot on that is, we showed a bit of everything in that game. I think at some point we need to start getting rid of the myth that we aren't that good defensively, the stats tell a different story

We’ve definitely looked a lot better with a flat 4 at the back and a relatively settled back line.
We’ve also got (imo) defend first, play football second defenders - which wasn’t the case last season.

Obviously getting minutes in MacDonald (due to time out injured) and Clayton (new to first team football) has helped as well.

FBT is the new Rob Hunt, steady, solid if unspectacular but think they work perfectly fine in a back 4 especially if the opposite full back is a bit more attacking.

Of course - two defeats and we’ll all be gunning for his head and lamenting how awful the team is.

1st half he was brilliant, held up the ball superbly bought others into play and his movement is brilliant. 2nd it was tougher as just running and closing down but did that well too

He led the line very well and battled for everything, his tank was definitely empty at the end, but cannot fault the performance. Getting off the mark will be a monkey off his back. He has set a good benchmark,

From an away end it always good to see an irate, arm waving home crowd.
They are well supported though, didn't look to be many empty seats about.

Another positive among many was that Reed & Williams weren't really missed, which wouldn't have been the case last season.

And btw, Ref fucking robbed us with Khan. His first was never a yellow, just a body check. And the second Khans been sent off for dodging a high slide from one of them. Ref was shite, his bum went after a while with Grimsby getting on his back. We shoulda had a pen in first half also.

Their forum has been pretty complimentary of our performance. Always nice to see. Seems our squad is starting to gel

Khan is a very good player.

First time I've seen Smith and Waterfall this ragged. Glennon has really struggled against Hutton. Efete has improved a bit. Our midfield has started to find more space since the equaliser but we're still second to most turnovers. Swindon have been pretty impressive, it's been tough.

Swindon looked better in all areas of the pitch, fitter, stronger, more ruthless in attack. We were always second to balls, easily bullied off it and looked like we wanted to pass the ball into the net from the back.

Impressed with swindon, Less impressed with some of our play, home form becoming frustrating.

First 60-70mins very impressed with Swindon, proper footballing side. After the sending off it was shithousery and terrible hoofs to noone from them. We didn't play terrible, we simply got beaten by the better team. On another day one of those many chances at the end goes in and we get a point.

Swindon were down to 10 men with 30 minutes to play and we failed to take any advantage. In fact, a few times it looked like Town had 10 men!

Swindon were big and strong at the back, cynical but able to play a bit in midfield and with some pace out wide. The first time I've seen us struggle so much defending set pieces as we just kept missing the ball which led to their opener. Both of our full-backs had poor games defensively and it was frankly bizarre how often they almost got in behind us with a simple diagonal ball over the top. We just didn't try to close them down or stop them passing in the first half but it took an almighty misjudgement from Smith for them to score again.

Swindon were the better team all game and their passing in the first half was quick and accurate. Town’s defence today was poor for whatever reason. During the first half Clifton lost his footing 3 times which says he had the wrong studs or the pitch had too much water on it. Richardson was a big disappointment today and rightly subbed but Taylor held the ball well but had little support. Very scrappy 2nd half and as soon as Swindon went down to 10 men you knew it would be a struggle.

Always strange how supporters at the same game see things differently. Swindon were obviously a decent side with good passing and movement but despite that had to rely on us pretty much gifting them both goals and other than that hardly recall Max having to make a save.

Sorry but you are bigging up Swindon far to much they looked vurlnerable at the back and could be got at when we attacked which we didn’t do until late in the game Upper mid table to lower play off at best . No better then Northampton.

2 poor goals to concede and Swindon dominated. Second half we started with purpose and with Khan on the left looked a different propersition. The sending off probably went against us as Swindon time wasted, worked the ref and defended in numbers but in reality we had 2 great chances to equalise and at the end of the game their manager holds up the keepers arm to there fans to salute his performance.

Swindon made the league 2 playoffs last year and were consistent throughout the season, we were in the conference. The fact we more than competed shows how far we’ve come.

Said the same thing to us. I mentioned how fired up and enthusiastic he looked and you could see he was desperate to make an impression. Will be out for a few weeks.

We totally controlled the 1st half it was a great performance, 2nd half they came at is early on and for me it was not a sendiong off for Khan, it could as easily have been a sending off for them.

The last 10 mins was awful to watch but some great goalkeeping and defending by Town, worth a watch mate!
