Even though she was 96 it still feels like a shock. The new Elizabethan era is over and we have a king. The first King most of us will have been alive to witness.

I'm in the monarchy is nonsense school of thought.

Having said that, hope that the kids & their families made it to Balmoral in time.
It's always painful to lose a parent.

ERII has been a constant throughout all of our lives, so her passing is worthy of a fair bit of pause for thought & contemplation.

Anyway, a deserved RIP after a life dedicated to duty through an accident of birth that would have driven the majority of us to drink or worse if faced with the same.

RIP Your Majesty. Crazy to think we in our life times will likely never see the country have a queen again

Title: Re: RIP Our Queen
Post by: Briggany on Thursday, September 8, 2022, 20:12:56
This is a very sad day for me. my first memories of watching TV were watching the queens speech on TV at Christmas. Ever since that day the Queen has always made me proud to be British and a reminder of the history of this United Kingdom (good and bad).

Throughout my life as technologies, opinions, life and cultures changed her Majesty was always the constant. Ever changing and adapting to the times, reminding us that as we move into the technology age that traditions and history remain important.

Not afraid to admit that I have balled my eyes out at this news. I knew it was coming but it doesn't make it any easier to digest. I feel as though I have lost a grandparent and an idol, someone I never met or knew yet felt so connected to.

Due to medical reason I never had the chance to serve in her Majesties armed forces, but I have always felt the allegiance and loyalty that our armed forces so willingly give.

Some people are against the monarchy, some people are for it. But I hope that in all of this everyone can understand that to an awful lot of people her Majesty meant an awful lot and her passing marks the end of an era.

The old queen is dead, long live the king.

I spent 6 years in the army and 26 years in the police so, 32 years of my life has been spent working for her.

To think I would have to spend 38 more years to match her service is humbling. That would just time served as well. I don’t think anyone will ever come close to the dedication she exhibited.

RIP Ma’am and God Save the King.

Seen from my eyes... The Queen was wonderfully exceptional. She was everything that was regarded as right and proper.
A person who
was just a special. Some one who every British person  throughout the world could relate to and be proud knowing you have someone special at home in the UK.
Yes heartbroken and
really unsure about Charles !

I shouldn’t worry about Charles III, due to his age has had an apprenticeship like no other…. Furthermore he could be considered as an interim manager. William IMHO will have to be a king for the new age and connect with the entitled, mollycoddled, disrespectful and me, me generation.

RIP Elizabeth.

Without disrespect to dissenters of your's, the monarchy or other aspects of the UK, you were a most constant symbol of everything that was admired or loved about this nation and its people by others in our great continent (and beyond).

In that manner, away from embarassing hubris, you bestowed on us exactly the right kind of national pride.

Thank you for your amazing service, Ma'am

I wasn't aware about the QC/KC thing, everyday is a school day. All these changes that are going to have to be made will be at not an insignificant cost I guess. Never a good time of course but in the current climate it's not ideal.

The Royal Warrant is granted by members of the British Royal family to fantastic companies or individuals who supply top-notch goods. It stamps a royal seal of approval on particular goods and highlights the products that the Royal family have been buying for at least five years.

So if the seal states the Queen, I guess it will have to be changed to KIng, but according to that it is the Royal family that can issue them to products..

I certainly can’t get upset over a 96 year old woman who I’ve never met, who has played no part in my life dying of old age…but…then the day previous to her death I was at the funeral of a 36 year old man, so that has probably played a part.

However, if people feel a sense of loss, then they can do them. I’m not going to tell anyone else how to feel.

HP Sauce will have to remove the Royal Warrant within 2 years and it will be up to King Charles to grant them a new one in his name if he so desires.

He may grant Prince Wiliam the right to issue Royal Warrants in his name and I suppose Cammila may also get the right to as Queen Consort.

My wife's employer has a Royal Warrant from The Duke of Edinburgh which should expire on the second anniversary of his death.

I'm in no way a royalist and the passing of the Queen didn't really affect me in any great emotional way. However we live in a community which is and the green opposite our house has a massive tree which was planted in 1952 for the coronation. Earlier this year for the 70th anniversary my wife and a neighbour did a repair job of the bench that is below the tree, painted it that kind of purply colour and buffed up the bronze plaque that is adorned on it. As I watched the rolling news on the Television I looked out to the empty bench and felt a pang of sadness. I'm not sure whether it was for the loss of the monarch or just an empty bench beneath a tree seems a bit sad but it was oddly symbolic, for a brief moment.

I didn't realise that after all the massive rush up to Balmoral by the family yesterday she seems to have passed before most of them arrived which is sad for them.

I'm also no royalist, nor republican really, always worked on the principal that as the RF seems to bring in more cash to UK PLC than it costs then so be it, but it is  a massive historical moment for the country and could be the catalyst for enormous change albeit not sure whether that will be good or not.

I am sad as much as anything as some people have lost their mum/gran etc.

I did get a bit fed up when Prince Phillip went ref the overkill in the Media and thought when the poor old Queen goes it will be ten times worse, rightfully so due to the importance , i suppose.

This is the first time a monarch has died in the media (let alone social media!) age, and it has been interesting to see how its covered. It's pretty much wall to wall everywhere to the exclusion of all else, when there really isn't much else to say and, frankly, there are a few other enormous stories around.

I've quite liked reading some of the personal anecdotes and stories from people who met her, but the sheer weight of random corporate "tributes" is just weird. I simply don't see the need for my local shopping centre or baked bean brand of choice to send their condolences - these aren't real people with real emotions.

Have no problem with call-offs of games for operational policing reasons, or cancellation of any events where those involved simply don't feel up to performing. Generally though, I feel as far as possible normal life should go on and people should make their own decisions on what they do or do not want to do.

Policing of other people's emotional reactions is just weird.

Not quite. but near enough.

3.2 million houses had TV at the time of The Queen's coronation. More than one TV would be unlikely.

Some folk will not agree but, the Queen worked tirelessly for all of her adult life to benefit the country and Commonwealth as best she could.

She didn't really care if you were for her or not. She worked for you.

She meant it when she signed off her letter Your Servant, Elizabeth R

I've always wondered where the line lies between blessed and cursed if you are a monarch.

You'll have top care in everything, more money than you need etc.

But little free time, no realistic prospect of retirement, you can't just nip to the pub/nip out anywhere. The press intrude on everything.

As my life is now, I wouldn't trade.

I think the sweet spot is to be a relatively minor royal where you get some of the money and patronage but can essentially live a normal, very privileged life. Being the actual monarch must be fairly close to being a (very well kept) zoo animal. Immense privilege in many ways, but far less self determination than most of us will ever have.

if you want to mourn, mourn away. A very old woman has died - most people never met her. She was nice and did an amazing job. But stopping normal life for 60 million people is just nuts. The empire was over a long time ago.

Also feel that, whilst not perfect (who is) she was at heart a really decent person, which in world where many leaders are liars, cheats and bullies will be much missed.

How can we not miss someone who's been at the core of British life and culture since 1952? Many many many things have changed in that period, we're in a completely different epoch and era of mankind, but the queen has been a constant. Whether a republican or a royalist you cannot doubt her efforts and dare I say impact on Britain and the Commonwealth at large. Plus I would love to hear her opinion on some of the hundreds of politicians and leaders she met over the years.

What is most telling for me is the little stories, the ones of people who met the queen not at some grand event, but accidentally, by coincidence or, perhaps most importantly, not as some fervent monarchist. Every interaction with every person for 96 years has only been positive. A rare human being that.

All the corporate wank can fuck off. Unless you had the royal warrant to supply you had zero connection with the royals, let alone the queen. But it becomes a circle of "WHY HASNT CAMPELLS SOUP SAID ANYTHING THEY MUST HATE THE QUEEN?!?!?!11!"

The grand nonsense of live TV displaying and saying absolutely nothing other than mawkish sentiment can fuck off too, it's reached its crescendo with this. I couldn't give a shit about watching 6 hours of footage of a police officer in the rain outside some gates. Just tell me the news, not fill the air with dead space with nothing worthwhile to say. If anything, it just detracts from the solemnity and historic nature of the occasion.

Same.

Could. Not. Give. A. Fuck.

Although do kind of understand how others do and don’t wish to demean others over it.

Pretty much my feelings too, it’s not always easy to recognise history in the making but an event like this certainly does.
Mostly though I feel the end of the ‘constant’ effect that comes with the passing of someone so famous. Will and do miss ‘constant’ others more that have had a greater influence me than the Queen though. RIP all the same.

things that change with change of monarch

Coins, stamps, the national anthem and barristers business cards (QC is now KC)

must be loads

Perhaps anythi g with royal charter or showing a crown. A Kings crown is different to a Queens

Event professionals have no choice but to work.  As royal family ambivalent as I am someone has to organise things.  You never know I might get time and a half on the funeral day.

The joys of the freelance.

They did stop around halfway for comfort break as well as a driving break otherwise they would have been criticised for driving too long without a break by some group!

So some shops are shutting on the 19th. I think they should all shut including pubs/restaurants and non essential stores.

Just out of respect really.

Not so good for those who happen to be on holiday at the time & reliant on a pub / restaurant for some sustenance at the end of a days walking.

Get where you are coming from though.

Just watched the vigil and so so sad. I cried. Feel for all the family.

Question though. Did Beck's really queue for 12 hours in a suit and full on jacket. Fair play to him if he did.

All very sad moving and emotional and what I've seen David Beckham queued for 13 hours so massive respect unlike Holly & Phil who were allowed to fast track.

Yeah he did, unlike Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby who took the fast track option

Becks.... and also Susanah Reid and her Mum queued with everyone else.  The difference between showboating and proper respect.  IMO.

My initial reaction was.... "he's been queuing for all of 5 minutes, unlike the woman behind who has been queueing for 17 hours"... but apparently, as has been said, he was queuing all night so yeah... massive respect...

Or maybe he just wanted to show his respect; and felt he should queue like everyone else. Who knows? Never met the guy, so hard to tell, isn't it? Not all 'celebs' are attention seeking narcissistic twats. Just like not all politicians are corrupt lazy idiots.
I'll get down off my self appointed soap box now.

So he jumps the queue and he’s a self entitled celebrity that better than the rest of us or stands in line like everyone else and he’s after a knighthood? Bollox. I think fair play to him for doing it.

It's well documented that he was livid he didn't get a knighthood after all is charitable work.

You think he queues for anything else? People are so gullable.

And how is standing in the cold for 12 hours to walk past a box with a dead body in it paying respect exactly? Genuine question? Fucking lunacy.

TBF it was widely reported by the sun and the mirror that he sent angry emails.. sources told them. Of course the emails werent verified or shown

Each to their own surely, there will be people who don't understand why we would stand for hours to get a playoff final ticket

Not hurting anyone are they

If he wanted a knighthood that much, I'm sure he could bung a couple of hundred grand to the ruling party at the time and Bob's your uncle.

I can’t comment on the knighthood issue as I avoid celebrity news like the plague. However, my thoughts were fair play for not queue jumping. Clearly this is not how you think respect is paid but hundreds of thousands disagree. Each to there own, I’m not joining the queue but will be watching on Monday. More from a historical point of view as this is a massive event for our time.

TBF, the media have done their job because it's hooked a few on here based on the last few pages.  I doubt there are many on here that has gone down and queued, so i don't get the plaudits for Becks or the criticism of Phil and Holly.
