Title: Tea
Post by: Empathy Sloth on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, 00:01:28
What are your favourite teas?

I like Lapsang Souchong because of it's extreme smokiness. I drink a lot of Rooibos too, tastes good and caffeine free.

That.

Although I do quite like a Yunnan, delightful nuttiness to it.

Just plain ol' normal tea. The longer the bag's left in, the better.

I got some nice strong tea called Nambarrie from B&M Bargains, there is no need to leave the bag in the cup it is just really strong.

Redbush & Green tea for health reasons. Like the odd cuppa now and then (strong and sweet) but prefer coffee.

Completely agree. If I'm feeling flush then I might splash out on Yorkshire Gold. Tea of champions.

Our PA doesn't drink tea herself and regularly brings me "tea" that can only be described as hot milky water with a tint of brown colour.

No milk or sugar for me, same with coffee.

I like it strong AND milky. Why is that so hard to understand for some people?

We take our tea seriously here, and, whilst liking Yorkshire a lot, have decided that the Lidl Fair Trade tea bags are the best of the everyday.

Lapsang and Earl Gray are great, but must be Twinings

Whereabouts in Andover are you from? I spent my teenage years in Andover. Lived on River Way and went to Winton.

 so very much this. Often leave the bag in for 10 mins+.

Assam is a big favourite in the morning, along with English Breakfast or Earl Grey, then switch to redbush chai or peppermint in the evening as I'm scared caffeine will affect my sleep.  (Obviously the peppermint is without milk or sugar...)

Haven't got into Assam much but did enjoy it when I tried it. Tend to stick with a plain old brew, strong and milky a la jayo.

For alternatives, Lemon & Ginger is a good shout, but Camomile and Honey probably tops the list for me.

Another vote here for Assam, or PG Tips. The stronger the better, and absolutely NO sugar. Weak milky tea makes me heave.

Other side of town. Started out just off Salisbury Road, a brief spell in Charlton and now living on Weyhill Road near the Tavern.

Was a John Hanson boy

I've become accustomed to strong, sweet tea (the way it should be made) with coffee-mate instead of milk.

Yerba Mate. Smells a bit like cigars, tastes lovely.
Failing that, strong white standard tea, no sugar.

Ah, you're from the posh bit then! Knew a few lads from John Hanson. Used to knock around with one whose dad was the landlord of the pub in Charlton, think his name was Jez.

None of the fancy teas for me. A nice regular strongish tea with one sugar and splash of milk.
Prefer coffee though and only have 1 or 2 cups of tea a week.

Funny...never drink tea when i am out, drink coffee...at home its always tea.

I have tried to cut down on both...on account of the two sugars i have every time i drink it.

Yorkshire tea with sometimes a Breakfast tea.

I don't drink tea when I'm out either. Never trust other people to make it how I like it. There's only so much that can go wrong with coffee whereas tea is infinitely variable.

Can we just be absolutely clear that anything involving mint, fruit, herbs, including that that good awful redbush stuff, twigs, mushrooms and any other random pot pourri or floor sweepings IS NOT FUCKING TEA!

Tea is brewed from the leaves / leaf buds of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis. Nothing else. It can be black, or green or white, if you want to be healthy and stuff.

The other stuff is just smelly hot water.

Nettle tea is good...sometimes when out walking especially in a mild winter, I'll take a flask of hot water, find some fresh nettle shoots bung them in to make a tasty infusion. I was tempted to question R4E on this topic, but he clearly states that these infusions are an alternative to tea.
