Whilst its been great to sing the 'we're top of the league' chant, I think we are in need of a new song. Every now and then a new song is sung by a club and other clubs use the same song or put their own variation on using the same tune. Terrace songs have gone a bit generic. Surely we can use a tune that hasn't been used before and put some decent words to it and have our very own song that sounds quality when everyone sings it and most importantly it's unique.

So I'm setting a challenge for everyone to have a think over the summer and see if we can come up with something and come next season attempt to get it going home and away. Fans will soon pick up on it, especially at away games I think. Some clubs have some quality songs, and think it would be great to have our own. I will have a think and post my own suggestion too. Feel free to shoot me down for the idea, but for the creative ones on here post your ideas and lets see what we can come up with.

I wouldn't shoot this idea down, it would be decent to do something to our own tune.

For the record that 'and that's the way we like it, like it, like it' chant is fucking shite and very cringeworthy given that non league sides have been singing it before us

Although I do enjoy shouting 'GINGER CUNT' (ironically of course) at the top of my voice when everybody else has stopped hurling vitriol. A few look a bit sheepish and feel bad, but the rest just carry on shouting abuse despite the most ginger haired person ever in front of them!  :D

Ken Barlow has been in my head all night! Im just sat at work singing it! I like the Di Canio twist we put on it, be great to get that going on Sat. Its funny, but one of those that could go on and on and on if people persist and everyone gets to know the words.

A couple of extra verses would be good.  Needs to build before the scarf wavey bit, or it could be over in a flash.

That thread is from August last year, so it seems the chant has remained obscure? The topic seems to be suggesting that spurs were signing it around that time last year and that it was derived from a River Plate chant...

I've played Call of Duty once, so I know all about eastern europe and stuff me.

Having spent pretty much all season, midway in the Town End, trying to get new songs going....it just doesnt happen. People prefer the mundane. Like The Wesley Foderingham chant with the 'la la's...takes off a little bit but is soon drowned out by the obvious and boring 'FODEEERRRRRINGHHHHOOOOOOOOMMMMMM FODERINGHOOOOOOOOOOOOOM'.

I hope we can ring the changes, some of our chants are the equivalent of a old NOW album :(

I love the other Foderingahm chant with the the 'la la's' as you put it, sounds must better than the other one. Which just sounds like a bunch of mentally retarded people being asked to shout out the name of their favorite players...

I disagree. I think it works quite well as a repeated song, so you sing the two verses, do the scarf wavey thing, then start again. As I mentioned before, it's not too dissimilar in structure to the 'Oxford fan on a piece of string' chant and that went down a treat. (Then got old, admittedly).

Personally i like any chant than can combine any 90's dance track as a base.

I think its harder to get new songs going at home games. Our home atmosphere is generally very poor for a ground of our size. But thats down to the poor acoustics and apart from the odd song its never more than 200 singing in the TE. I think its easier to get them going at away games, where there is a good number of people, all wanting to sing. You just need someone to keep singing it over and over and if its good people will soon join in. But the easier the song, the easier it is. The 'we're going up, we're going up' all started at Aldershot because we sang a song to the tune of the drum and Shot fans. It was then sung again at Gillingham a few times and im sure it will be again Saturday. I guess because its simple its just easier. I still hope our own version of Ken Barlow gets going Sat! Its still in my head!
