Title: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Give us an S on Monday, April 23, 2012, 19:06:28 Whilst its been great to sing the 'we're top of the league' chant, I think we are in need of a new song. Every now and then a new song is sung by a club and other clubs use the same song or put their own variation on using the same tune. Terrace songs have gone a bit generic. Surely we can use a tune that hasn't been used before and put some decent words to it and have our very own song that sounds quality when everyone sings it and most importantly it's unique.
So I'm setting a challenge for everyone to have a think over the summer and see if we can come up with something and come next season attempt to get it going home and away. Fans will soon pick up on it, especially at away games I think. Some clubs have some quality songs, and think it would be great to have our own. I will have a think and post my own suggestion too. Feel free to shoot me down for the idea, but for the creative ones on here post your ideas and lets see what we can come up with. Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Ƭ̵̬̊: The Artist Formerly Known as CWIG on Monday, April 23, 2012, 20:10:50 I wouldn't shoot this idea down, it would be decent to do something to our own tune.
For the record that 'and that's the way we like it, like it, like it' chant is fucking shite and very cringeworthy given that non league sides have been singing it before us Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, April 23, 2012, 20:11:52 He cums on his chips

This is a children's song in the US (not heard it over here, but maybe it is around). Having said that, it would be easy for everyone to learn! That Ken Barlow song is ace!!! Would love to make our own version of that. Genius! And yes, I agree, thats the way we like it chant is sung by so many teams now. I hate copying other teams chants. Defo gonna rack my brains on this, we need something decent. Ken Barlow has given me inspiration to think of something new and creative! We're going up We're going Swindon's going up. x4 Everyone loves the mighty Town, Through all the ups and do-o-owns, We believe, We support. That Swindon's gonna, Play in the Prem, With Paolo still there, We're just waving goodbye, To Oxford scu-um. Steam train on the shirt, Salubritas et industria, 20 years of hurt, Never stopped us dreaming. I know that was then, But it will be againnnnnnn.. We're going up. We're going. Swindon's going up. We're going up We're going up We're going. Swindon's going up. (Repeat til fade) (We could have a very nice canon going on here with the Town End and Don Rogers, singing 'We're going up' and 'Steam train on the shirt' respectively) To the tune of: Three Lions by you know who, Lightning Seeds! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QIAv2EoIP0 Feel free to change the lyrics, it's not great. I absolutely love this tune and I think it will work. Maybe we've done this in the past, but I haven't been a long Swindon supporter. Or maybe this tune is saved for national use only.. No idea. Perhaps it didn't take off in the end? Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 10:46:06 Ah, I didn't look at the date. Perhaps it didn't take off in the end? Guess not. But the tune is catchy enough, so no reason why it couldnt be sung this weekend? :D Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: WR5 on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 11:17:59 A work in progress to the tune of Common People by Pulp

They sing chants to that tune in Eastern Europe too.Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 13:17:09 They sing chants to that tune in Eastern Europe too. Ah ok, I dont really know to much of football abroad (other than the obvious leagues) if Balkans can sing it then we sure can! haha Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Ƭ̵̬̊: The Artist Formerly Known as CWIG on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 13:24:16 Haha i'm sitting mid-section of the TE but i don't think the 'big nazi men' will take kindly to a female trying to start a chant!! Having said that there was a kid that seemed to be helping lead the chanting at the Northampton game - sounded like he/she was in the DRS shouting across :) He was in The Town End, very amusing and helped the most boring 10-15 minutes of the game fly by. Fair play to the lad he must have literally been about 10 years old Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Coca Fola on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 13:37:13 Ah ok, I dont really know to much of football abroad (other than the obvious leagues) if Balkans can sing it then we sure can! haha What are you implying? ;)Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 13:50:30 What are you implying? ;) Nothing racist! Honest ;) (i'm presuming you have eastern european heritage?) - Although all that soviet lark' has left their football supporters having a 'for the motherland' attitude... Or have I got my eastern european geography/history wrong? ??? Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Coca Fola on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 14:31:00 I'm half Bosnian. Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: MarkyTee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 15:00:52 Having spent pretty much all season, midway in the Town End, trying to get new songs going....it just doesnt happen. People prefer the mundane. Like The Wesley Foderingham chant with the 'la la's...takes off a little bit but is soon drowned out by the obvious and boring 'FODEEERRRRRINGHHHHOOOOOOOOMMMMMM FODERINGHOOOOOOOOOOOOOM'.
I hope we can ring the changes, some of our chants are the equivalent of a old NOW album :( Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 15:23:47 Having spent pretty much all season, midway in the Town End, trying to get new songs going....it just doesnt happen. Which just sounds like a bunch of mentally retarded people being asked to shout out the name of their favorite players... Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: jayohaitchenn on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 15:48:38 It does happen if the songs is snappy and simple though. Kerrrrroooooossshhhhh being on fire, dancing with Cibochhi etc.
Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 16:24:31 A couple of extra verses would be good. Needs to build before the scarf wavey bit, or it could be over in a flash. I disagree. I think it works quite well as a repeated song, so you sing the two verses, do the scarf wavey thing, then start again. As I mentioned before, it's not too dissimilar in structure to the 'Oxford fan on a piece of string' chant and that went down a treat. (Then got old, admittedly). Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: Give us an S on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 12:42:59 I think its harder to get new songs going at home games. Our home atmosphere is generally very poor for a ground of our size. But thats down to the poor acoustics and apart from the odd song its never more than 200 singing in the TE. I think its easier to get them going at away games, where there is a good number of people, all wanting to sing. You just need someone to keep singing it over and over and if its good people will soon join in. But the easier the song, the easier it is. The 'we're going up, we're going up' all started at Aldershot because we sang a song to the tune of the drum and Shot fans. It was then sung again at Gillingham a few times and im sure it will be again Saturday. I guess because its simple its just easier. I still hope our own version of Ken Barlow gets going Sat! Its still in my head!
Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: pericarp on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 13:31:46 We're going up
We're going up We're going We are going up. Can we just do the intro of the Three Lions by the Lightning Seeds pleeeeease. Then make it into a canon by singing the chorus together as well!! Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: sn5_red on Friday, April 27, 2012, 21:11:09 I know we have no relation to Ken Barlow... Something like.
County Road, Take me home To the place I belong Swindon Town, County Ground, Take me home, County Road The next verses would then refer back to past players. I remember a man call Jan Aage, Big and strong, arms out wide, Til he left, sold by a Scouser, We'll never forget him, our greatest striker Maybe a bit corny but worth a try Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: reeves4england on Friday, April 27, 2012, 21:46:02 Like your thinking sn5! Think the words need adjusting slightly to fit the tune but you're on to something. How about...
He don't like Bristol City, cause they're slave traders He don't like Reading, cause they're all plastics He don't like Oxford, cause they're a pub team He loves it at Swindon, and he's living the dream Devera, Devera, Devera, Devera... or Aden Flint, Aden Flint, Aden Flint, Aden Flint... or whatever else Title: Re: New STFC terrace song challenge Post by: sn5_red on Saturday, April 28, 2012, 08:16:36 sounds good. aden flint, aden flint, aden flint aden flint
