Post by: Berniman on Saturday, September 24, 2011, 13:39:20
Does anyone know if EA are doing a special Swindon Town version again this season?  My boy wants to buy one.

Cheers

Some EA season ticket thing or something? For the 360.

You can pre order at any sainsburys, I paid a £3 deposit which they deduct off the price when I pick it up Friday morning. Saves trying to get to the shops early before they run out.

Anyone heard if Asda are doing it cheap again on the release day? Normally £25 ain't it?

That would be very good as I'm sure Sainsburys are charging £44 that's the xbox 360 though.

For the lazy wanting the non-Swindon version Amazon are the same price, or £2 more for the special edition*. I guess they put the price down accordingly to match any last minute supermarket offers.

*As far as I can tell you get some of EA's own special rip off add ons free.

Seems the days of Supermarket price ward are over :( £25 I'd think about buying, but not £40.

Yeah, I normally always get it on the day it comes out but a bit skint this year so won't be able to. I could probably stretch to £25 though.

Last year I paid the extra to get the Swindon Town cover with the logic that'd it'll be a good collectors item rather than worthless as soon as the new one comes out. But it's got Austin, Douglas and McGovern on the front and it just annoys me now so doubt I will do it again. (Potentially would if Paolo was on the cover though!)

Don't see a huge step forward from '11 in the demo, definitely not worth £40.  Just bought F1 2011, so may wait until after Xmas to indulge in Fifa's latest offering...

Don't get me wrong I'm well aware that FIFA11>PES11, but for some reason I just find PES more playable. I guess it is cos I am used to it having owned almost every version since PES1.

I like the Fifa 12 demo. It's so much better now they have removed the pressure button so you dont just get people closing you down all the time and you have to actually think about what you are doing when you defend as opposed to just pressing the one button and letting the computer do it all for you. It certainly makes it more of a challenge. Passing and turning cycles are good as ever.

Hopefully 1 supermarket does it cheap. I've already traded in my copy of Fifa 11 so can't even use that to get a few quid off. If not though i'll still buy it. I'd much rather pay 30 odd quid for a game like Fifa as opposed to COD where is gets played for about 2 weeks and then never comes out of the case again and becomes a waste of money.

That's not bad but also i'm not fussed on the special edition as i'm not even sure what you get extra over the normal version and i'd much rather pay £4 or £5 less for the normal version.

Ive never been a fan of Fifa, in fact ive not played the game since '05 i believe. Ive just downloaded the demo just to see what its like as people say it's a lot better these days.

Ive always been a fan of pes myself having had everyone apart pes 2010.

I only play online (master league online) which i think is great, which i don't think fifa do. If they do, can someone tell me what's it like??

Title: Re: Fifa 12
Post by: Benzel on Monday, September 26, 2011, 18:08:55
Fifa online has something new this year. I can't remember what it's called. It's some type of head to head mini league featuring 10 players, at the end of the "season" you get promoted/relegated/stay where you are.

Do you get to build your own team i.e. buy you own players?
I think ive heard of this, but i don't think its quite the same.
I give the fifa 12 demo a go later but i think i will stick with Pes this year because ive been quite impressed with the latest demo.

The full game seems a little better than the demo tbf, but I don't think it's the online league is the same as master league. Just pick a side and get put into a league with 9 other peeps.

Hmm as i thought, thats a shame, i would of thought that would be the obvious next step for Fifa this year.

Personally it would take a hell of a lot to persuade me to swap pes for fifa, for me pes gameplay is still much stronger, even tho i beleive the gap is far less than it was.

The only thing i prefer with fifa is licensing  :)

Ultimate team is that feature. Main reason I play Fifa. Basically play games get coins and create your own squad.

If anyone is wondering what the special edition is, it just gives you advantages in Ultimate team, think its like 4 Gold packs a month for 6 months I think.

I pre-ordered mine of Game as I had a lot of reward points on my game card and I'm paying about £22 for it.

In the master league everyone starts with the same default team which is very basic which you can selll some players and replace them.

You have to play matches to earn money and buy players obviously but the most popular players rise in price considerably.

There are 5 divisions which include either quick matches or cup competions.

I played Fifa demo lastnight for about 5 mins and wernt impressed but having said that its completely different to pes so i expected that.
Do you have to use the anolog to move players or is there an option to use the d-pad, i cannot stand having to use analog for footy games.

How do you arrange the games against other ML players ?

Title: Re: Fifa 12
Post by: matt_jada on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, 15:01:39
How do you arrange the games against other ML players ?

you start in div 5 and you have two choices.

(1) choose quick match which can put you up against any division type 1-5 the higher the division the more cash you can earn.

(2) You can also join competitions i.e. div 5 cup (div 5 players only) where upto 400 players can be involved, your aim being to get the best 3 consecutive results to qualify in the top 16 to goto the knockout stages.

there is also ml open which is a cup competition for all divsions like above and the champions league which is for div 1 and 2 players only.

Your aim is basically to play and win as much as possible to earn money and improve your team, eventually building your perfect team which takes an eternity  :)

As for the time it takes to find opponents, its pretty much instantly and there is rarely any lag, hope this helps

I used to play PES all the time and did up until 2009 - that version online was awful and the game play was so slow. 2010 was better but i've been playing FIFA since 2010 game and it's so much better.

I've played the PES demo and agree that it's getting back to what it was originally like!

I can't get into PES anymore. It's just not the same as it used to be. They ruined it a few years back and it's never recovered. On the opposite side of the fence Fifa seems to improve every year.

Ive never really liked Fifa and this new one has not made me change my mind at all. I agree that Pes in recent year has gone downhill i.e 2010  ;), but in general i though 2011

wasn't too bad at all. 2012  looks great and feels much more like the old classic's pes4&5.

As for the MLO the gameplay isn't slow at all, with very little lag unlike Fifa  ;D  are you sure you didnt set your gameplay speed to +2 and then on MLO it use's default?

Fifa fans will never agree that pes is the better game and vice versa, it's what your use too i guess which i suppose makes it hard when you do try out the enemy.

Fifa has and always will be the best footballing game.  Played since 1998 when I bought a German version - the commentary was epic.

I know PES edged it on gameplay for a few years, but who wants to play Man Red vs Arsenal Red with van Pervert up front?

I can't help feeling that gaming is reaching a ceiling.  F1 2011 is a big step forward from last year's version, but really can't see how they can improve for next year short of selling you a Formula One car.  Fifa 2012 doesn't seem a significant step forward.  OK, the players fall over in a more realistic fashion, but gameplay/graphics have not stepped forward enough to justify a whole new game.

I played FIFA 2011 the other week, on PS3, and its gurt slow. What's up with that? There hasn't been a decent football game, at least not with the speed and fluidity that makes computer games fun, since PES 2009 or whatever the last one was on the Playstation 2. All the FIFAs and PESs have been clunky and slow since.

Sad as it is, i got this from Tesco last night! £39.90 it cost me. My house mate has gone halves so it's not too bad. What were the prices in Asda?

I like it so far, i think you have to be patient in the build up to your play. Defending is alot harder as you have no help from the computer as to the closing down button. Only played 3 games online last night. Won 2 (both 3-1) and then had one more game before bed and lost 4-0! Bad times!

Who's jackomonaco or something like that? on XBOX 360.

See him playing last night - how did you get on?

Im waiting on Pes 2012 TBH, wasnt impressed with the fifa demo, plus the fact i have to use the analog doesnt interest me one bit.

Im still only considering updating with pes 12 tho because although the game flows much better and is really fun to play with a greater level of intelligence, for me they

have really screwed up with there defence. If you use the pressure buttons this year it either results in a foul or more often than not the AI easily beats you.

I will have to practice but at the moment the defence is killing this game for me  :(  Maybe it might be different online, who knows.

Oh also its far too easy to score from crosses but alot more diffucult to score through the centre, at least your fucking online morons who spam the ball out wide and put in a

low cross or the extremely long through ball that destroys your defence will be fucked this year  ;D

Im still deciding whether to make this upgrade or just carry on playing pes '11

I hate it atm, the new defending is pretty crap in my opinion. The opposing player can always turn or jink faster than you can ever change direction or put a tackle in, and then if you're alongside them jostling they always appear to be stronger. Plus when you're defending goal kicks or anything your player never appears to be anywhere near where the ball is going, very frustrating. Also you have to concentrate for every bit of the game, especially defending, you can't just sit down and have a relaxed game which is a pain in the ass!

Rant over

You hate it for every reason I love it. It's not just as simple as pressing a few buttons it requires concentration, decision making and skill. For the casual gamers who would like more of an arcade sim it's deffo better to go for PES.

I'm half tempted to do this tomorrow but they may have sold out by then. Might just pay an extra £10 for the game at Asda.

You should be ok as offer doesn't end until the 6th October.  I bought it as i was shopping in Sainsburys anyway so i saved myself a £10

I haven't played it, but from the sounds of this new defending system it requires a lot more skill to be good at the game.

The way 2011 was, it didn't matter whether you had the skill or not - online opposition would always use aggressive pressure and it was fucking impossible to play against.

I'm all for making it harder rather than abusing tricks of the game to beat your opposition.

Save your money & get pro evo 12 if you must buy a footy game, anything can happen in pro evo. Fifa 12 is hardly any different from Fifa 11 apart from some new defensive changes.

If you love shiny graphics, official kits & repetitive gameplay then fifa is for you

If you like ridiculously named teams, dodgy keepers & great gameplay pro evo is for you

My copy arrived today, I like it... I don't go much for the online side of things, I played a few times on Fifa 11 but I got so hacked off with people disconnecting when they were on the receiving end of a beating....

The new defending is a bit difficult, but its good to have a challenge, defending was always too easy in previous games.

I like playing career manager, I always pick some obscure euro team to lead to glory, step forward this time KAA Gent, the next european powerhouse..... although I will fuck off as soon as I get a decent job offer.

Good to see the scouting returning this time, I hope to snare a few oddly name, system generated wonder kids for my youth team.

I take it this time that there's no option to put your own face on the be-a-pro? I couldn't find the feature if it does, I liked it last time, it was spookily lifelike... minus the footballing ability. But it was always a thrill seeing me clinched in a warm embrace with Alessandro Del Piero after bagging a hatrick for Juve in serie A.

This option is still there - once you've created your Virtual Pro, the 'Download Game Face' option appears in the VP menu.

Cool, I'll be doing that later, cheers!

The defending is a real challenge, I gave away 2 penalties in my first game simply by pressing 'O' and hanging out a leg for the forward to collapse over...

But I'm not going back to the old mode! I'll master it...eventually..

Woohoo just played my first game on FIFA12, tough getting used to it a bit from the start  especially defensively and went 1-0 down to the Pox, then brought on Kerrouche for the second half and won 4-1 with Kerrouche scoring them all.

Doesnt look a lot different than last years FIFA but I like the handball thing and some of the theatrical falls by players, Magera especially who has the movement of the John Murray Building on a roundabout is hilarious!

Off to try out the new Be A Pro....

Title: Re: Fifa 12

I agree about Magera's movement JJ. But his heading and long range shooting is fantastic, which warrants a place in my team. I'm playing him up top Kerrouche atm.

Title: Re: Fifa 12
Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 10:51:40
Kerrouche is an animal, always scores with every shot hes taken so far in match mode and in be a pro mode, the default team though hes always on the bench with Clarke playing, is it just me or is Clarke utter wank, cant score for a toffee.

The way the players seem to twist on one spot is a bit wierd like they pivot on one toe.

They seem to have made the keepers better on all levels too which is good as in FIFA 11 if you placed a shot anywhere near the keepers body in 1 on 1 then it would go in, not with the new keepers, makes it a better game to play. Just beat Wolves in a friendly at Molyneaux with Swindon 10-1...nice.

Oh no I am just trying it out, been playing it for about an hour, on the amatuer level will go for the better levels as soon as I have mastered shooting which is still a bit of a problem, yes despite winning by a large amount, as Mr parkin says it is no fun thrashing teams, until that is you are playing against humans online and then they just fuck off when you get to 3-0 up usually.

Title: Re: Fifa 12

Legacy means you can just hold down standing tackle and the player will home in and make an unstoppable challenge.

Post by: Benzel on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 14:25:15
Yeah if you're planning to play online it's for the best as the new style is locked in.

I much prefer it tbh, although from when I played the demo, I barely used the contain buttons and just use jockey before going in for a tackle. Contain is good for getting players back into a decent position but then I just take over and use jockey.

Bit annoyed with my Fifa at the moment. For a start I supposidly "started" my ultimate team on the website before the game was released. Got the 2 packs on offer for free and got my squad of 23. So when I put the game on and go into my Ultimate Team I find I don't have a team at all in fact I don't have any players and now I have to buy loads of packs with a measly 500 coins. I can't really be bothered to do that so it's no Ultimate Team for me this year.

To make me more pissed off my career mode has decided it doesn't want to autosave anymore and everytime I turn it on and enter the game I go back to the same bloody match. What's a bit strange is that was autosaving up until that game now it seems to have stopped and I haven't even changed the settings so not sure why. Will just have to manually save it like the old school days.

Just finished my first season in career mode, fucking loaded with injuries! out for 3 months in my first league game, then out for 3 months in February including missing games due to being rested due to fatigue, played 18 games and scored 42 goals in Semi Pro level, got Swindon promoted as champions and won the FA Cup beating Arsenal in the final 3-1 (ah 1969 almost!)

Overall I find it easier to play than FIFA 11.

Semi pro is way too easy. Even professional is easy most of the time. I do find world class a bit trickier. In Fifa 11 the gap between world class and professional was quite high but they seem to have made it a bit more realistic now which is good.

I tried to re-create the 85-86 team, but gave up when I realised that you can't choose a different coloured crest or sponsor for the away/home kits, but I did like my effort at a replica away kit from that season, so I thought I'd share it with you all.

Love the game, very frustrating though. I have a good UT but did the previous post say you got torres for 10k?

I had about all gold players, decent players as well. Only 10,000 coins that have gone but i have nothing left apart from 2 bronze players and 69 coins.

No UT for me this year!

Sneaked a 1-0 win against another Swindon Town side last night with De Vita missing a penalty (all our players are shit at pens).  Anyone on here?
