Title: Some people..
Post by: herthab on Monday, August 22, 2011, 07:57:52
..need to get a bit of balance.

YESTERDAY WASN'T THAT BAD!!

Yes, we lost to oxford and that feels fucking horrible, but the overall performance was pretty good.

The amount of knee jerk bollocks and finger pointing on here yesterday was fucking ridiculous (You know you're in for a depressing read when Barts decides to participate).

We're four games into the season, long long way to go yet.

Keep the faith.

First game for me and I was pleasently surprised. we're not far off in terms of performance and think we're only going to get stronger from here.

I predicted between 7th and 10th before the season started but now I'm sure it's the play offs at least.

I agree mate.

Anyone would think we'd been played off the park!  We were unlucky and its simply unfortunate that it happened against Oxford.  Had this been anyone else, the knee jerk reaction wouldn't have been half as bad.

We'll bounce back, I'm confident of that and get some good results.

Couldn't agree more, was a top performance with plenty of positives to take and only one negative, it's the fact we lost of Oxford and for some props that is overshadowing our performance. Yes it is rally painful to lose to them, but performance wise we destroyed them and they barely looked threatening, they just took advantage of our one negative

It was hard not to be depressed yesterday, but in hindsight, it was the best performance of the season. Hopefully with Mags up front and Comazzi back in defence we'll be fine.

Agree completely System. Thought we actually played better yesterday than we did against Crewe when we won 3-0. Bit of rub of the green and some better finishing and could have been very different.

Yes it's a blow to lose 3 on the spin early in the season and especially to lose against the Pox but there are many things to feel positive about.

Have a feeling when we've got a more settled side we'll take some teams to pieces with the attacking options we've got now.

I thought that was the best we have played for a long time and was very unlucky,Once we get a settled side we will be right up there in the mix. I feel no need for concern at the moment if we keep playing like that.

well said herthab. I don't bother coming on this forum after a defeat these days because there are too many knee jerkers, but I actually felt more miserable after daggers than I did yesterday.

I think Clarke will be a handful.

i think had McCormack been fit we would have dominated a bit more in the middle. I'd like to see him and Ferry get a run of games.

All in all, I'll think we'll get there.

Only major disappointment yesterday, apart from bad luck and poor marking at set pieces, was that di canio lost the touchline battle. Naive from the big man there...

We're getting there and I think we will be absolutely fine... Just need to make sure we get another CB!!

The HerthaB man speaks lots of sense, I agree fully with all of what he does say, we aint far from having a good side by the look of it (yes I didnt go yesterday but from what I have heard and seen in the highlights) we are so very close to the formula.

I have faith in PdC.

I thought Oxford controlled the game for at least sixty minutes and ‘allowed’ Swindon back into the game before waking themselves up again.

Must have been at a different game!

Like most of you I dont feel too bad about this defeat, there were plenty of positives there for PDC to work with...yet, we are in a bit of a hole and need to scrape our way out with some hard fought grindy wins and draws...

...all well and good but we have some tough games coming up, rotherham, crawley, southend. We need to shape up quickly else we could find ourselves in an even greater pickle...

We all know it's the result that's important so enjoy your moment in the sun, Oxford. We'll have revenge in March.

got this bit spot on though....and thats a worry...but i am sure we will get it sorted..:

'The gist of what he was saying was that they had been done by two set pieces and that was something they had to work on, but that Oxford didn’t pose any more of a threat. Maybe, but then again they didn’t need to. They came to get a result and set themselves up accordingly...'

Nothing knee jerk about 3 defeats in a row including losing to our biggest rival at home for the first time in donkeys years.
There are worrying signs i'm afraid. 1 win first day against a team without a win and who should have had us beat by half time doesn't look as good now.
We have some decent players but we also seem to have some very ordinary ones too.

People have been swept away with the Di canio bandwagon and that is great. But a reality check rather than blind optimism aint a bad thing.
We have to get better, and i'm hopefull that we will. It has to be sooner rather than later though.

A realit check is a good thing, but whilst you highlight the blind optimism of some, I feel there are far too many peope full of blind pessimism - people who saw nothing positive yesterday, as if we'd been drubbed 4-0 and never looked like scoring a goal. Plenty of reasons to have some hope going forward.

I think most people that posted straight after the game stated the same - gutted to lose to the scum, and rightly so, but encouraged by what was comfortably the best performance of the season over 90 minutes.

When even a couple of Pox fans acknowledge we were largely the better team you know its not been a total disaster. Mind you I'd love it too if we beat the Pox undeservedly in March!

So the game is out the way, the worst result has happened. Now lets kick on with the season proper, because I'd take two Pox defeats as penance for promotion if it was offered

100% agree Batch, if we play like that we will win more than we lose, very pleased with what i saw yesterday, just lacking that final bit of oomph up front, a bit of tinkering with the defence and that should be it, Looking forward to City and Shrewsbury

I don't think I've been swept away by di Canio. Yes it's disapointing to lose 3 out of the first 4 games, but most of us knew it would take time for a new team to gel.

There have been encouraging signs, particularly Sunday, that we are very close to being a good league 2 side.

Reality checks are find, but blind pessimism is as bad as blind optimism.

Pissed off as anyone. But the bottom line is they played more like a team than we did, and thats why they won.

Weve got some good players, but this game came too soon. We need to stop losing games or this could spiral out of control.

This is spot on. Looking forward to march. We will be better prepared. Short term I think it is likely to get worst as I think bristol will be a tough test. Im going to reserve judgement until a few more games, then hang my head in shame if things dont change.

City is an interesting one. Gabilondo and an on-form Ritchie could cause them problems, and I'm more confident now we have Clarke and (hopefully) this Czech bloke.

Obviously dealing with Maynard at the other end will be a problem, but given City's poor start to the season there is at least some hope of an upset. It'd do us a lot of good to sneak a win!

Well I'm an old bastard & that's the first time I've seen us lose at home to the Scum.

That is cause enough for a knee jerk reaction fo me.

That said, having let the disappointment subside a little it's fair to say that we weren't that bad.

But on the basis that most teams at this level thrive on set pieces, we need to get that sorted. Once we do I think we will be fine.

Ok then, my turn.

I've been waiting for my Oxford customers to ring me and give me a hard time...................

But lo and behold far from it. They said we deserved more and were the better side. They also commented that when we get into top gear we'll be a very hard team to beat but also cautioned not to expect to just turn up at some places, after all they thought like that when they went down to the pub league and it took them four? Seasons to get back. Their was recognition that we had a completely new rebuilt team out and it would take time to gel and were asking me about the czech international.

All in all a good game. Of course i'm concerned but as I said in another post we're not far off from being the real deal. Roma waza nota bilt ina weeeeekks.

Agree with what has been said in this thread. In some ways im glad the game is out the way now. There was a lot of build up and hype and in some ways I think it got to the players and PDC a little bit. Not it's time to focus on the league and not Oxford.

There you go Brizzle 0 Town 1

If you went you'd have seen a team capable of beating last seasons team and the one before in the making....AIMHO
of course.

Great result, I agree.  However, i can't help but expect more time before we start motoring.  If we can win by hook or by crook for the next month or so, we will piss that league.

Probably a sensible expectation. I think now we have the tools to do the job with Clarke, Czechy, Ferry and McCormack . When we had Smith, Risser, Bodin and Di Vita as fist choice I couldn't see it happening any time soon - sure they could all be good players, but not ready enough to hit the ground running.

As was the one he played before to Gabi with the outisde of his foot, but Gabi was offside, looks like he has really good technical ability aswell as being a big target man.

Personally, I've never thought Fezza would have quality as a big target man, and have real doubts about his ability to play as one. However, I didn't watch him against Shitty so I won't question your thoughts on him playing that role. :D

I thought exactly the same thing, I thought he was going to be built like a house but with the touch of a donkey, it didn't seem that way, but then again it's hard to judge on 10 minutes of football

Roll a fat one, sit back and enjoy the ride.  It was never going to be the smoothest of journeys and the only whining should be done from a dirty fat bottle of Italian Chianti.

Were not broke (for now), were not bottom (for now) Mel Machin and Bobby Gould aren’t in charge (hopefully fucking never in a million years) and were just four games into a new season.

We have a loony in charge, what appears to be a good solid support team around him.  The squad has a solid British spine to the side and a veritable pot potpourri of foreign players.  Some will be next to useless others could prove to be a real hidden gem.

The important thing is to find our feet and grind out the results from there on in.  We’re clearly not far off getting things to a point where we have a decent chance of getting something from games.  Once we turn that corner I am sure were going to give some unlucky side a real anus tearing fisting.
