Caddis up to right wing - Thompson as second right back. From the games I have seen him play Thompson is a ready for first team football.

I hope Sheehan doesn't stay. Last season he looked OK at times, but I think that was because his inability contrasted nicely with Rose's liability.

Should hope he doesn't, didnt want to stay and was trying to sign for Swansea after our playoff season, only re-joined us as he couldnt get another club, then wanted to fuck off to Preston as soon as he had the chance. Fuck him, better players out there. No point having someone who isn't committed to the cause.

Agreed, although I too would keep hold of Thompson. Looks a very promising prospect.

Timlin can leave - He's not a bad player, but he's fairly similar to JD and Ferry in some respects, so I see no point in him sticking around, as he's behind them in the pecking order.
We could do with some height in the centre of the park, as well as someone with a bit of attacking flair. Timlin possesses neither of these qualities.

I hope he doesn't go, but I have a feeling the club might not take up the option on Douglas' contract. Too expensive.

Sheehan - Keep - will be an asset in League 2
Evans - to Supermarine
Thompson - Keep - good prospect
Cuthbert - Keep - key player
JFL - Keep - good player for League 2
Douglas - keep but maybe replace as captain
Timlin - time to depart
Pericard - even Supermarine wont want him - goodbye!

I had this feeling too..... also if Di Canio is watching videos from only last season say, he will see Douglas not as his best and may conclude he is not a very good player and may decide he is eating up too much of the wage bill.

On last season`s form its pretty difficult to say any should stay. IF they could get to previous form Sheehan and Cuthbert to stay. Douglas looked slow and one footed for the second half of the season. Keep Thompson as a lively prospect. As for the rest would they really be missed...dont think so.

The only 2 I'm bothered about would be Cuthbert & Douglas I think they would both be class players at L2 level, possibly Thompson as well as a backup squad player still learning but a prospoect.

I think the others can go to free up some space, Sheehan has to go he has proven he is not committed to us so let him go and play for Supermarine

I'de keep,
Smith,
JFL
and Timlin if he doesn't mind the subs bench and reduced wages. That's two big iffs
The younger players who didn't see much in the way of action should get 12 month contracts on the same wages.
The rest of the players are all tainted with the smell of last season, get rid.
As for Douglas? One good season at Lids then he went of the boil, sounds familiar? He needs another challenge and a club who can afford his wages.

For me Douglas is a prority to keep,as long as his wages are too not high.  Think he will be bafck to his best under Di Canio and would be a class above in League 2

I would also like Cuthbert and Francois to stay as I beleive both still got potential to go on a be much better players and would excel in League 2, I don't want them to walk anway and be better players elsewhere, however we still need a experienced central defender and as we have Flint and Misun aswell, maybe that will be to many CB's.

Not sure on the younger ones Thompson, Scott and Evans as not really seen enough to judge, maybe worth a gamble keeping as there probably on significatly lower wages.

The others can go, especially Sheehan, already shown his lack of commitment trying to go elsewhere then when it all falls through comes crawling back here, saying he wants to stay.

I didn't make myself clear. What I meant to say was, here he's had one good season followed by one awful season and reading the comments from Lids fans that seems to be the same for them.  Nothing personal against Douglas. He was eqaully as cack as everybody else but from the season before he had father to fall.
Also, I'm not sure who has to renew a contract this summer. Obviously I'd keep Caddis, Ritchie Ferry and Benyon. The last two couldn't be blamed for last season.
Shame about Pericard, the first couple of games he looked handy.

Ah fair enough. As you say no one covered themselves in glory this year but his performances certainly dropped significantly.

Those 4 you mention are all under contract already through at least the end of next season I believe. The full set of out of contract players is in another thread somewhere but off the top of my head its the two young keepers, Thompson, JFL, Timlin, Sheehan, Cuthbert, Douglas and Pericard.

Fwiw the only two I'd be massively bothered about keeping would be Douglas and Cuthbert, but I fancy neither of them will still be here come August.

I would assume Di Canio would have the biggest say, using bodin as a source of advice. Considering he has requested to see footage of every game this season, it can't be looking great for the likes of Douglas and Cuthbert. He must wonder why on earth they are two of the higher earners at the club.

Title: Re: Adver News: Majority of out of contract players will leave Town, says Wray
Post by: BANGKOK RED on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, 16:52:48
Also, lets not forget we don't know everything about what happens at the club.

Douglas and Cuthbert might seem to make the right noises at times but have they had the right attitude behind the scenes. That is something that Bodin will be aware of.

Think we should keep Douglas but i'm sure PDC has his reasons. I think it's pretty obvious Douglas is going because his wages are too high though. It's all about the wage cap. We've just got to hope that PDC can attract a slightly better quality than L2 player for the lower wage.

Tbh part of me is thinking why let Dougie and Cuthbert go and possible even Sheehan but the other part of me thinks "nah fuck it they were all shit last season anyway".

Don't see the fuss over Timlin tbh. He's not that great. He's had plenty of seasons with us now and just hasn't cut the mustard on most occasions. LJF I think deserves a new contract. Did fairly well in the few chances he had last season.

If we could get money for either Douglas or Cuthbert, I'd sell them. If they decide to fuck off, then let them. If they decide to stay and take a pay cut, then fine. Timlin I'd ship out - he's been here long enough and not proved himself. I'd keep LFJ - there's a decent player in there and I don't think he'd be on much. Sheehan can fuck right off - not because he thinks he's too good for us but because he ain't actually good enough for us. I'd keep the youngsters , certainly not their fault we got relegated but sending them out on loan may be a good idea.

I'd quite happilly let a few under contract fuck off as well.

I just remember how much we were crying out for a Douglas type player before he arrived.
We had spent several years without anyone in central midfield who could win the ball back & move it on. Very simple (and often under-rated) stuff, but the kind of thing you need in a team.

We had Timlin before Douglas & he couldn't do that job then & I'm not sure he has shown that he could do it now.  That means that we are going to need someone to play in CM that can do that job.

Cuthbert on the other hand I'm less worried about, he showed last season that he needs a leader to play along side him, and that means signing another experienced Centre-Half. On that basis we may as well sign them to play alongside LJF or Flint.

A decent Keeper is a must (Lucas is good enough but too injury prone & Smithy is a good backup but not reliable enough as a #1).

We need to keep Dougie, like Posh Red says we were crying out for a player like him for years. I don't actually think he was as bad as some people are making out this season, he was made to play a lot deeper and had the handicap of Prutton alongside him for most of it.

We already have most of the players to do a job in League 2, just need a leader at the back and a striker to play alongside Benyon. I dont think there will be a better midfield than JPM (or Caddis), Douglas, Ferry and Ritchie.

Please don't tell me this is true?

If I thought this was true, I would feel cheated that I didn't give these players a hard time during home games. For that kind of cash, i would want to see those players crawl of the pitch, wasted at the end of a game.

The club are in negotioting with Cuthbert as the wages are too high for L2.

They are currently not offering/activating the extra year to him.
