Title: Snoring
Post by: china red on Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 00:28:05
Doesn't bother me in the slightest but seems to annoy other people.  Anyone got any good suggestions to either stop it or limit the amount of noise I make when sleeping?

get 3 whistles, tape one into your closed mouth and the other two into your nostrils. After a few days of snore-whistling your partner will be more than happy to go back to old normal snoring.

Lose weight, give up smoking/drinking. Get fit. Sometimes snoring can be an indication of an underlying health issue so if it is something that has started recently best to see your GP.

A "friend" was told by his missus he kept waking her up with his snoring until he got some of those Robbie Fowler strips for his nose - puts them on just before he goes to sleep and not only does his missus not complain (well not about the snoring) but he's getting a better night's sleep as well. Tescos have got them - BreatheRight, they're called apparently. So my "friend" reckons, anyway. Ahem.

Guaranteed to work permanently. Place clingfilm over mouth & nose before you go to sleep.

I went and saw a doc about it some time back and talked with a consultant about an op. I think it only had a 70% success rate or something and had a few other negatives that I forget now. It never affected my sleep so I decided to leave everything as it is. :D

My girlfriend snores like an athsmatic Darth Vader... those nose strips worked for her. I had earplugs for a bit, but kept missing my alarm

I'd check out a condition called sleep apnoea. If anyone has it, it doesn't give a fuck what they do until its diagnosed. The cure is 100% effective. If the snoring builds up into a crescendo, stops and starts building up again then there's a good chance you've got it. If you're tired during the day or take naps during the day ( other than lazy scrounging student cunts ) then I'd get it checked out. But you'll probably need to tell your GP what you suspect rather than wait for them to make the diagnosis.

I snore and my missus gets on my case from time to time, she won't accept that she's just as bad and she'll be purring away like a fucking walrus after a glass of wine or 5.

There are different types of snoring - if you snore more when drunk or tired it is generally caused by the lower jaw slipping back and restricting the back of your throat - the RF nasal bands won't stop this (it may seem to at first but will probably be because you are sleeping lighter because you have something on your nose - eventually the problem will re-occur once once your body becomes used to it).

Sadly my snoring has been likened to the sound of a B52 at take-off and have been often woken up by air stewardess's following complaints from other passengers on long haul to New York!! - Yes it really is that bad and is significantly worse when I am drunk and have often woken up in the morning barely able to breathe because my throat it so sore and swollen from snoring.

Enter stage left the Somni Snoreguard (http://www.britishsnoring.co.uk/shop/mandibular_advancement_devices/tomed_somnoguard_ap.php)... this thing is neither pretty or cheap BUT if you suffer from snoring to a point it annoys other people this thing is a god send - it keeps the lower jaw forward and airway unrestricted giving everyone within a mile radius a peaceful nights sleep - it's one of those things I now cannot live without ad would recommend to anyone he is being woken up by their Mrs...

Somni Snoreguard...sounds like an Icelandic Viking saga writer.  I see a bird every so often who snores like a resting pannier tank engine waiting for a green down some rural west country branch line. One of the reasons why I see her every so often....

Is it not difficult to sleep with? How long did it take to get used to?

Took a couple of weeks to get used to and adjust so that it is both confortable and effective but it is definitely worth it - I now hate sleeping without it!
