Title: A Terriers view!...
Post by: Acetripper on Sunday, September 26, 2010, 07:28:11
First of all well done Swindon! On the day you wanted it more than us!

The two ex-Leeds lads bossed midfield and the ferocious tackle by Douglas that took Roberts out just about summed it up for me. Mind you, I've seen players 'walk' for less than that. I'm not saying that because Robert's sustained a serious arm injury (he needs surgery and could be out for months) but because of the 'malice intent' in the tackle. It was uncalled for in that part of the pitch in my view. If I 'tackled' someone like that out side my local boozer I'd in the local nick this morning!

On the whole you had far more aggression than us and there's nowt wrong with that but to call us soft moaning northerners is slightly unfair given the circumstances. However, if you like it that way, I hope you're okay with something similar for our lads when you play at The Pharm'. Us Northerners have long memories!

The game seemed pretty even in the first half I thought with two good sides giving as good as they got. It was really crucial for us that Scot Arfield didn't start the second half because that coupled with the Roberts incident meant our creativity totally dried up. I'm not making excuses because we should have risen to the challenge in the second half and we just didn't. On that performance I can see why a lot of you are surprised we were 'up there' but hey, there's plenty of matches to come and we'll stay up there. Obviously we'd have been happy to take a point but fair play to Swindon for winning it at the end. Although I would have liked to have seen the ball smacked into the stand, as it was your lad was allow a free header!

Good luck Swindon Town, I'm sure you'll be up there yourselves come May time. I'm not surprised you won the game if I'm honest but it's the injury to Robbo who's one of our best players that concerns me most!

Regards AceT :D

Like fuck. Fair but hard challenge.  Not even a foul let alone a red/GBH. It was just unfortunate he broke his arm. Hope its not too bad.

As the ref confirmed by not only not sending him off, but not a booking either, looked a great tackle from where i was, just your lad fell awkwardly. Looking foward to the away leg, might be a bit "frantic" I reckon. Anyway no doubt you'll be up there, but you need to learn how to take more points of the better teams, as to me  if Hudds were a cricketer you'd be Graham Hick. I.e batter the lesser lights but freeze when you need to up your game, that must be down to tactics, so seems to be your manager needs to adapt his thinking.

Take the red blinkers off mate!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00v37lj/The_Football_League_Show_2010_2011_Episode_8/

Scroll to 43min.33secs.

A ridiculous tackle especially in that area of the pitch. If he'd done that in or around the their penalty area I could understand it. Jeeeeesus Christ he'll get some hammer when he's up at our place for that! ;)

Confirms a good tackle, gets the ball then makes contact with the player.

Then some fat bloke in a number 9 Huddersfield shirt must have jumped onto the pitch to shove people around. Not seen anyone that big at the CG since Ruddock left.

He didn't jump in, he got the ball, the ref was right in front of it and didn't book him.
It's not nice that he's broken his arm but that was the way he fell, it makes the tackle sound worse than it was.

That's the problem with terriers - they have very short legs so rarely have a good view :)

It's a contact sport. Dougie won the ball, player fell awkwardly which is unfortunate but absolutely nothing wrong with that challenge.

Funny how a challenge by one of the Udders players on the sideline (can't remember who on - possibly Prutton) goes unmentioned as that looked much more malicious.

Look at the ball for god sake, it was literally yards from the ref and he gave NOTHING, if its as bad as you make it out to be, he would of walked go questions asked.

absolutely mental, with 20 20 memory even in the face of video evidence you're sticking to the fact it was a foul and should have been sent off! do you work for the FA?

carey's tackle on douglas by the touchline was worse and the ball wasn't anywhere near to being won.

we all have slightly biased opinions but this is a bit silly now.

what was your view on the advantage being played so you could advance with a man down, but then when we broke the play was stopped?

Roberts' arm looks well fucked. It was just a 50/50 challenge though. If he hadn't broken his arm nothing would have been said about it.

Title: Re: A Terriers view!...
Post by: DiV on Sunday, September 26, 2010, 09:00:07
That was a great tackle, 50/50 ball which Douglas won cleanly. The injury occurred because of the way Roberts landed.

The area of the pitch doesnt fucking matter for christ sake, Douglas has every right to go for any ball in any area of the pitch.

The ref got it spot on, no red card, no yellow card - infact I dont think he even gave a foul but when Douglas won the ball he pulled play back for the foul on Arfield as Huddersfield had no advantage.

If you tackled someone like that outside your local boozer, Huddersfield Town would probably sign you up and play you centre midfield.

I dont think the replay will be 'tasty' Huddersfield havent (on that display) got the balls for it.

Also, no mention of our goal which on the one real time viewing I've had got disallowed because Pericard jumped within the vicinity of the goal keeper.

I think the FA should stamp down on this sort of thing and seriously consider fining Huddersfield for fielding a player with shit arms, it could be quite dangerous.

If it was such a bad tackle then surely a manager like Lee Clark would talking about nothing else in his post-match interviews.

Didn't see it 'live', but watching it back on the highlights you can see it's proper snapped. Ouch.

Good post.
When Austin got his shoulder injury with a collision with Davies the Saints keeper...there was uproar against him.
In fact looking at the incident later there was no malice on the keepers part.
So i can see your point of view on the Douglas tackle but watch it again and yes he thundered in so can see why you would be peeved....the boot on the other foot and i would have been most probably.
As for the game Lee is a good player but long ball made you one dimentional and i personally think we have the best defence in the division now so not really any chances i can remember for you.
We always struggle against teams who have lively nippy front men or wide men....you didn't have either so really it was a comfortable win really.
No one wishes players serious injury and i for one wish Roberts a speedy recovery.

I do accept Robert's arm being broken might have coloured my view to some degree. However, it will be exactly that fact that people will remember about Douglas in March when we play you. That was an overly aggressive tackle on a man trying to play the ball and if you people can't see that then I give up! I always try to fair in my assessment of incidents in games and in this case too. If our player had caused such mayhem I would be saying the same - Trust me I would! But not one of you guys will even concede it was even an unfortunate tackle! ::)

See you all in March! Good luck until then! ;)

Our player won the ball, cleanly, in a tackle he had every right to go for. It was a fine tackle. That wasnt punished with a card or even a free kick.

It was unfortunate in the fact Roberts landed on his arm and I wish him a speedy recovery.

But, malice intent, overly aggressive - you are talking complete and utter shit, again.

I thought it was just a proper old school cruncher... the free kick was given for Pruttons challenge as no advantage fell to you... it was a nasty fall though. To be honest, it was a strange decision to play advantage... if he'd just blown, the Douglas tackle would never have been made...

However, it will be exactly that fact that people will remember about Douglas in March when we play you.

I reckon our players will be remembering the few occasions when play was stopped for injuries to your players and the ball wasn't given back to us fairly. Douglas and Prutton came started kicking off towards the end of the game when it happened.

remember about Douglas in March when we play you.

Whats with all this 'we'll get you next March' shit? You've practically repeated it in every post. Its all a little 'we'll get you after school' don't you think....? Leeds fans were great at setting themselves up for a fall when posting on here, perhaps its a Yorkshire thing.

Seriously though, Lee Clark? is he the man for the job? I thought you were so tactically naive in the 2nd half, I counted at least 5 occasions when our centre backs could stroll into your half without one single Udders player being within 10 yards, it was all very 'Andy King'. Yes you could play the 2 players off injured card, but a decent manager should be able to re-organise and counter the way we were playing. Gus Poyet got it spot on when he bought Brighton here.

Do you reckon he's the man for the job?

Anyone who uses this line needs ignoring straightaway. It wasn't on the fucking street, it was on a football pitch. If you done anything at home in the boxing ring or the rugby pitch on the street you'd be arrested, but it's within the rules of the game.

The ref didn't even give a foul did he? He blew up for the foul on Arfield a split second before.

One final point on Huddersfield. Every media outlet, and their own fans, bang on about a being a fluid side who play lovely football and score for fun, yet you came down here and changed yoour shape to match up, and everytime you got the ball it was lumped towards that fat twat up front. You even held the ball in the corner at 0-0 for fuck sake.

Only one side even tried to play football, only one side deserved to win and we should have been out of sight.

Come, we've all seen players pick up serious injuries in perfectly fair challenges...

If he'd done the 'i'm a stupid footballer and fallen down the stairs and injured myself act' would you blame the stairs?

Fair challenge, entitled to go for it, as was Pericard with the disallowed goal by the way, if that challenge is in the Prem by, for example Essien, then the MOTD pundits would be hailing it as a tremendous challenge ending in an unfortunate injury.

And as has already been asked - what did you think of the advantage incident where you attacked and then the ref stops play as soon as we have the ball?  You seem to have ignored that before so I ask again...

Are you of the opinion that conkers should be banned from schools by the way?

The Udds fan conveniently forgot about to mention the blatant elbow in Douglas' face a few mins after the 'incident', which was right in front of the ref but said 'play-on'.

Or their full-back, who should've got booked for kicking the ball away a few minutes after getting away with only a yellow for the very late challenge on Douglas.

Does this whippet fucker seriuosly think Douglas is going to give a shit about the return game. If I was Douglas I'd be well up for it after completely bossing the midfield yesterday. Does he also think any Town fan is going to refuse to go because of the incident. The stupid delusional cunt is probably waiting to be beemed up to his mother ship.

He might get a few boos, but that will gee him up. Not that he ever needs to be. Hudds is one of my favourite away trips, already looking forward to it.

I wondered how long it would be before all the 'life's one big joke party' lot got out of bed and started to show just how immature they can be. Our player has sustained a serious injury and it seems all some of your so called fans can do is laugh about it. How very sad is that?

Losing Gary Roberts is a massive blow to us and that's where my comments are coming from, nothing else! I don't wish any of your players any harm but if Douglas does that again to any other player I hope he it gets noted! ;)

stop being a fucking dick.

We arent laughing at the fact Roberts was injured. Austin got injured in similar fashion two weeks back, so we sympathize.

However, you are still talking complete and utter bollocks. There was nothing wrong with the tackle, it was the fall that did his arm in - NOT THE FUCKING TACKLE.

I should bloody well fucking hope Douglas makes more fantastic successful tackles through out the season, he'd be pretty useless to us if he didnt.

Bad landing, fluke injury. DECENT TACKLE

not fuck off back to where ever you came from. We've met our 80% bollocks quota for the day.

I am sure that Douglas will get his punishment after the appeal by Huddersfield is heard , oh hold on a minute there is'nt one. If he had broke his leg or ankle I can understand the point but he fell awkwardlly and broke his arm, the day They stop players making full bloodied FAIR tackles is the day we may as well all give up and start watching Basketball.

It was an arm injury. You get them from the way you land on the ground. If it was a leg injury, any reference to the tackle would be valid. Shame about Roberts. But it has nothing to do with the tackle, does it.

God you're tiresome. Your team deserved fuck all out of yesterdays game and thats what they got. When Roberts was being carried off most fans around where I was clapped him off. Other than when we play the Scum ( certain individuals excepted ie Hughes of Notts Co ) Town fans do not want to see opposition players getting hurt. It was a good challenge and Roberts got hurt. The challenge Prutton did moments before was a bad one.
If you're taking the moral high ground then there plenty of incidents we could raise including your cock of a keeper inciting the Town End at the end of the game.
Get over it and move on to Rochdale and tuesday.

Judging by the rest of the Huddersfield team, they've practised falling over a lot. Roberts should have put more effort in during training and maybe he wouldn't have fallen so awkwardly.

Perhaps Huddersfield should come out in bicycle helmets, knee and elbow pads next time or alternatively, wrap themselves up in a giant ball of cotton wool.

I think I actually dislike Huddersfield more than I ever disliked Leeds. Just a few choice quotes from their forum:

Quote
I offically endorse the above statement.

I spoke to one decent Swindon fan in the pub pre game the guy who was wearing a shirt from the late eighties and he was sound.

The ones in the ground were all mouth and a right set of arseholes shame it wasn't us who got a late winner as was planning on going over the wall to celebrate in amongst them.

As for the pond life who were allowing their really young kids to gesture in the direction of the Town support what a terrible waste of skin you are and provides further evidence that you should need a licence to breed.

On the brightside we could go home and don't have to live in Swindonia.

I hope their demise is long and painful.

Quote
I'm pretty sure that if he didn't jump then it'd of been a broken leg instead of a broken arm you half wit knob rot.
I'm so looking forward to you guys making the trip up here!

Quote
I Feel sorry for ass holes who come on here and talk out of there tiny ass holes,it was a 2 footed tackle, and roberts is one player we will miss big time.cant wait for them to come up here(in a mini bus)lets hope they get there come uppance. HTFC

And they didn't like Ben's little animation. Boo-hoo.

Its one opposing fans view on here about the injury, who originally came on here to big up his side and tell us how good they were, and now he needs an out to blame his sides defeat.

Second half did anyone hear the away support, I think that says everything about Huddersfields performance on Saturday from their own supporters, they were a very poor side and lucky to go home without receiveing a real thrashing.

Douglas tackled him and when he was on the floor Dougie got out a samurai sword and sliced his arm off before putting the sword back down his shorts - all in front of the ref and 8600 for everyone to see. Well, thats if you were watching in whippet vision.

Regretable that he fell awkwardly, yes. Definately feel sorry for him. A terrible injury for anyone to sustain, but that's just bad luck.

Whilst it's a shit injury, I did crack a somewhat sick laugh watching Roberts trying to catch the attention of the Shuddersfield bench by madly pointing at his puppety limb as he sat square on his arse after the tackle

So the gentlemen of the DATM forum are going to give him a going over.  I suspect thats not the case.  They may boo him but the players are the ones who are going to be near him and they wont do anything out of the ordinary.  Makes me laugh fans who think they are going to scare the players and give them a going over.

Kevin Amankwaah (if the allegations were true) deserved a bit of stick from Millwall.

Jonathan Douglas is a figure of hate for a legitmate challenge? Crazy.

Did fans go for Denis Irwin for his involvement in David Busst's professional career ending? Nope. This is because it was an unfortunate accident in a football match.

It wasnt even that tackle that ended Haalands career anyway.

It was persistent injury with his other knee.

Douglas meant to break the blokes arm with a sliding tackle, if he did - then thats a very impressive skill!

Most of the credit has to go to Marcus Cassidy - works with an incredibly small budget compared to most Premier League clubs and yet has a pitch that beats them hands down.

We were all gutted not to get recognised last year but to be honest this years pitch is twice as good and should be there for the award come the end of the season...

Fair play for that shout out. Marcus is a great lad and does deserve to win the best pitch award this season, along with you and the others, of course!

Most of the credit has to go to Marcus Cassidy - works with an incredibly small budget compared to most Premier League clubs and yet has a pitch that beats them hands down.

So what would it cost?

There are two levels of sponsorship, Groundstaff clothing which basicaly pays for the jackets/tops with sponsors name on the back for 12 groundstaff (circa £100 per groundsman - £1200 total)

The other is sponsorship for equipment which can be negotiated with the club - very favourable rates have been previously agreed for buying the equipment needed for keeping the pitch up together and can include pitchside advertising - if anyone is seriously interested then PM me or Grubby
