Good partner for Dougie I think. He's not as defensive as some on here seem to believe. Great range of passing and got an eye for goal too. David Lucas' best buddy as well

Think he would be a great addition. Chipped in with a few goals last term for Col which suggests to me that he'd get forward more than Dougie. He played Right mid for Leeds and also apparently popped up at right back for the saints too. Good experience and always looks like he is 100% type o' player. Nagging doubt that if Brighton throw down a wedge that it might be too tempting in his 'twilight' years... we'll see.

For me this would be a signing to get my juices somewhat flowing. Wilson's whole foundation has been built on players with experience of football at a higher level, ie Lucas, Douglas, Paynter, JPM, Greer etc. Prutton would be a big step even further down this enjoyable road. I am curious as to how Prutton has ended up in League One. Does he have a bad reputation behind-the-scenes? Did his discipline problems at Southampton sort of ruin him (the 10 match ban in 2004) Why are Colchester, Brighton and Swindon the only clubs firmly rumoured to him if he's that good?

I think those problems at Southampton did ruin him, I remember when he first came through the ranks at Forest he was superb and tipped for a big future in the game.

Douglas and Prutton playing ahead of Cutbert and Greer is an exciting prospect.

As well as a left winger you'd really want Ferry and a right winger (unless Macklin steps up) in addition to Prutton. Then you've got a strong midfield and options - which is one thing we were really missing last season.

We might sign Ferry as well and that would mean Timlin & Easton wouldn't get a game unless we had injuries so i can see those two rejecting our contract offer and going somewhere else for first team football.

Yup, needs a good pre-season and avoid any more hamstring injuries. Reckon if he can stay fit and get some decent game time that he could be a real threat. Wasn't the sharpest when he started to make some appearances towards the end of the season but there were enough glimpses to convince me that he could be dangerous.

I'd (naively) like to think there are players out there like Prutton who earn their crust by putting in sturdy performances and helping a team's cause consistently rather than cashing in on one or two seasons of glory, only to disappear into oblivion soon after.

I think that if he's willing to sign for us, then he obviously lacks ambition, and hence, we should give him a miss.

Can anyone cite any sources for all these rumours as to why prutton hasn't signed yet? Other clubs interested? Where did this Ipswich rumour come from? And where are these failed medical rumours coming from? I wouldn't normally pay them any mind but I can't see why it takes days between a medical and signing? Anyone have any ideas?

I think of him as very much in the mould of Ferry and Douglas, but if he's got Douglas protecting the back 4, he won't have to sit back. Presumably, as he can score the odd goal, and he does have more of an attacking edge to him, will he score a nice number of goals for us?

I think he may because he seems to score a few crackers and both Dougie and Ferry were in great positions to shoot throughout the season, but then decided against it.

Coincided with us having a really good season - he was part of an (at the time) impressive squad (David Healy, Robbie Blake, Neil Sullivan, Frazer Richardson etc). After that, his form dipped - surely nothing to do with having the security of signing a permanent contract....  :hmmm:
