Title: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Doore on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 00:34:06 To try and avoid going to bed and therefore work in the morning, I'd like to stimulate a thread considering those players who were, inexplicably, ignored by their national team. As I've started the thread, I can start with the obvious: Steve Bruce.
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 00:35:55 Mikel Arteta is a pretty good one.
Don't think Di Canio ever played for Italy either. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: DMR on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 03:12:43 Micky Hazzard

Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 10:34:29 Don Rogers, Steve Bruce, Paolo Di Canio are all good shouts.
I will add Billy Bonds. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: oxford_fan on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 10:36:14 Window licking spastic cunt. Best English left winger of the past 20 years. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: china red on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 10:49:21 Best English left winger of the past 20 years. The problem being that unless he got a suck of his mummy's tits each evening he would cry. If your from Oxford and you get home sick in London there really is something seriously wrong. Oh, unless your five years old Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: oxford_fan on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 11:05:37 So you are not disputing the fact that he's the best English left winger of the past 20 years?
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: dell boy on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 11:20:10 So you are not disputing the fact that he's the best English left winger of the past 20 years? From the present crop I would say Lennon is better (but he has been capped) - wingers have been a bit of dying breed in last 20 years. Beauchamp did have quality moments but his career at the top was pretty short in professional terms and his mentality, well what more can you say. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 15:22:36 Kevin Campbell has scored more goals in the Premier League than any other uncapped player.
But then, Ian Wright struggled to get in the team so its no suprise that Campbell never got picked. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: suttonred on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 15:37:25 Tony Cascarino

Beauchamp did have quality moments but his career at the top was pretty short in professional terms and his mentality, well what more can you say. I'm pleasantly surprised that my fishing has resulted in serious consideration of Joey Mummy Boy Alcoholic Beauchamp. Like you say dell he had the technical attributes (a magical left foot, ability to skin a right back), but completely lacked the mentality to go further than he did. Lennon is most definitely a right winger though? He'd be hopeless on the left, as his only trick is running round the outside of players as quickly as his little legs can carry him. And its only recently that he's learnt how to not completely fuck up a ball into the box. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 15:44:45 Kevin Davies
....and probably a few years ago Kevin Nolan. Curtis Davies, Michael Dawson. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Nomoreheroes on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 16:52:45 Paul Cooper (Ipswich goalkeeper with a knack of saving penalties)

Sorry couldn't think of anyone else! Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Reg Smeeton on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 18:26:44 Di Canio did get capped only ten times or so but then he was always behind Baggio then Mancini then Del Piero then Totti. Now he'd be a shoe-in. Then he didn't have a hope. You sure about that? I seem to remember that he could have played for England because of residency, in the same way as Arteta and Almunia, because they've not been capped. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: A Gent Orange on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 18:34:06 Nope see above. Had about five hours sleeping the last two days due to screaming baby.
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 18:53:55 Couple of others...
Howard "glug glug" Kendall, Billy Bonds, Ruel Fox and at a push the ant eater in charge of Sunderland. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: adje on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 18:55:51 Clough played for England did he not?best uncapped keeper/I'd go for Jim Montgomery
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: iffy on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 18:56:05 Probably some good keepers, given how long the likes of Shilton and Clemence (and Buffon in Italy) had the shirt.

Darren Eadie! Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: iffy on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:11:46 Folding in a trivia question: Name a player to have won man of the match in a Champions League final and not represent their country?
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:32:15 is it a trick question and the answer being Zidane?
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: iffy on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:36:04 Not a trick question and not Zidane. The only point at issue is whether he was the official man of the match. He's always described as man of the match for the game, but I can't find official proof of it.
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:39:03 Not a trick question and not Zidane. The only point at issue is whether he was the official man of the match. He's always described as man of the match for the game, but I can't find official proof of it. I originally thought it was Steve McManaman but he played loads of times for England. Retarf alert!! It's Jermaine Pennant. It's always cited that he was MoM in the 2007 CL Final. In places like this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/oct/23/jermaine-pennant-real-zaragoza "he was a European Cup Final Man of the match" But according to wikipedia, the MoM was Inzaghi. Stupid. Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: DV on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:46:57 So, the correct answer is technically Zidane as he never played for Algeria
Like the old trick question, last english player to win the world cup Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:48:07 Simone Perotta?
Title: Re: Best players not capped internationally Post by: michael on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 19:49:28 Even using that logic Zidane would be wrong anyway, as Deco never played for Brasil
