Title: Sausage Sandwiches
Post by: Sippo on Sunday, November 15, 2009, 13:18:54
I'm undecided. Hot sausages, or cold sausages. I had one last night while they were still warm, but finishing them off today. Think they are better cold.

Hot, fried onions - if in a bagette then with mustard, if in between two slices of bread then with brown.

Cup of tea on the side.  Perfect.

Can't beat the taste of a sausage sandwich when camping...as Bazza says any old sausage will do...fry in billy can lid preferably over a camp fire, and whack into one slice of white bread, and wrap bread around sausage, butter if you've got it, but marge will do.

The most dumb statement I've ever read on here.
Also it doesn't matter if they're hot or cold , they are God's food -sausages.
I have just had some bratwurst - wonderful. English sausages are the best ( cumberland, pork and stilton ) but most of the European countries do a decent job as well.

And that's the great thing about sausages. They're just as brilliant when you're sat in the warm safety of home and haven't stupidly gone on a wander with a tent.

Sausages do not belong in sandwiches. That is the sole preserve of bacon.

Sausages should be on a plate accompanied by mushrooms cooked in butter, tinned tomatoes, bacon, fried bread, hash browns and toast.

Alternatively with mash and onion gravy.

Or off a barbie and eaten with salad and barbecue sauce.

Bloody heathens..

So you only ever make sandwiches with bacon?

No cheese and onion, no turkey sandwiches at Christmas, no ham & mustard - you sir are the heathen...

Wait, what? You say that bacon's allowed in both sandwiches and on a plate in an ace breakfast. What's so bad about sausages which doesn't give them the same right?

I think it's well out of order that you'd come along and try and change our sausage sandwich culture. What right do you have to do that?

Ohhhh, yeah. Sausages in casseroles are superb. And Roast dinners.

I'm hungry now and would kill for a sausage sandwich right this second. Tesco used to do a Chilli and Onion sausage and they were unbelievable. That in a sandwich, right now - with ketchup on fresh bread - would be amazing. But i think i'm going to have a bowl of shredded wheat, as it's near bed time and i shouldn't be eating this late. :(

I just had two sausage sandwiches. Couldn't be bothered to cut the sausages, so just bunged four whole in each sarnie. Some brown sauce and I was actually in sandwich heaven. I always forget how good sausage sandwiches are, much better than bacon.

Hot or cold with brown sauce or English mustard, fired onions optional.

Under no circumstances should ketchup be used because that is just fucking stupid.

Never mind hot or cold.

The most important question is sliced open or whole.

Between slices of bread sliced sausages have the advantage of minimising "roll" and creating channels for sauce and the like. But is it right, or should a real sausage sandwich contain intact bangers?

Title: Re: Sausage Sandwiches
Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 21:07:54
You can fit more sausages in if you put them in whole, though I will slice if I can be bothered.

Is that sliced lengthways or cut into discs?

This thread should be buried. I check the site just before bed and always notice this thread and think of a hot sausage sandwich (sliced lenthways) with ketchup. You cunts have made me hungry again. It just shows how ace sausage sandwiches are though, if it was called bacon sandwiches or egg sandwiches i could've brushed it off.

On the subject of fish, piscatorial fans, I chanced to be down Manchester Road t'other week in search of vine leaves, for the stuffing thereof.

In the estimable Mirchi Cash and Carry...not only did they have vine leaves, but chest freezers stuffed with the strangest badass fish, the like of which I've not seen since a place in the upstairs Brunel Market, which only seemed to serve Chinamen, closed, when the market moved.

These beasts of the deep were huge fuckers...big old crabs available as well.

My Bangla mate informed me, that they're Indian Ocean fish and that a big un, can set you back 50, the trick being to get it sawn up into smaller cuts and share out the costs among family and friends etc.

I wouldn't really know where to start with buying something like this.

My old dear loves shopping around the Manchester Road area. She buys all her vegetables and some meats because they're so cheap compared to everywhere else. (I can't help but feel this post is ripe for the ripping.)
