Title: England Women Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, September 7, 2009, 09:43:29 The Women's team, have done something the men's team have failed to do, and got to the final of the European Championships yesterday, by beating Holland 2-1.
This is a month after the Under 19's won their European Championship. They will meet either Germany or Norway in the Final on Thursday. Title: Re: England Women Post by: herthab on Monday, September 7, 2009, 10:04:47 Womens football is shit

Title: Re: England Women Post by: Batch on Monday, September 7, 2009, 12:13:12 Womens football as a sport is a bit like the special Olympics.
By that I mean I know they put in as much effort as possible, deserve all the credit, etc, etc. But I just can't get myself interested in it. If they want women's football to take off they need to make the most of what they've got - which is fit birds, tits and arses. Turn some of them in to pin ups and suddenly you'll get a lot more blokes going. Turn some in to role models and you'll get more birds going as well. Some might call it sexist, I'd call it marketing. You might well do, but would you call it football? By the same token, I assume you'd ban Peter Beardsley, Franck Riberry and Luke Chadwick from the male game. And no, I don't watch women's football, but it should stand or fall on its own merits as a sport, not some tarted up marketing exercise for knuckle-shufflers. More than enough people trying to turn football into a brand, thanks.Title: Re: England Women Post by: ghanimah on Monday, September 7, 2009, 12:48:58 Womens football as a sport is a bit like the special Olympics. By that I mean I know they put in as much effort as possible, deserve all the credit, etc, etc. But I just can't get myself interested in it. I once went to a women's game - England vs Scotland - at Bramall Lane in the mid '90s and caught myself spontaneously saying patronising things like; 'oh that was quite a hard tackle' and 'they're actually quite good on the ball'. By half time I'd had enough and decided the pub was a better bet. Title: Re: England Women Post by: jonny72 on Monday, September 7, 2009, 12:53:47 I see your point but I think its just down to how you do it. Plenty of male footballers have a high profile which helps to promote the game, especially to women, so why not do the same with women footballers? I'm not on about getting some of them to do page 3, just give them a higher profile.
It would be good if the FA and Premier League invested some serious money in women's football as well. Maybe a proper Women's Premier League with professional players and the games played before or after men's matches. I'm surprised clubs like Man Utd haven't done it already, with their massive fan base you'd have thought a good few of them would get behind a women's team. Before anyone says it, by "get behind" I mean support wise, not doggy style. Interesting that you mention United - do they even have a decent women's team? Title: Re: England Women Post by: axs on Monday, September 7, 2009, 16:34:21 In the USA, women's football(sorry soccer ) is massive. I think networks there are obliged to show a large amount of it, therefore the sponsership is there. I'll go along if there's quotas involved. I'd like to see something along the lines of 40% bubble buts, 40% top heavy chests, and throw in for comedic value 20% (relatively speaking) skillful players. Title: Re: England Women Post by: pumbaa on Monday, September 7, 2009, 18:35:44 I think networks there are obliged to show a large amount of it, therefore the sponsership is there. I never saw one game advertised in three years living there. Not saying you're wrong, but 'soccer' (i.e. MLS) is a poor 5th (at best) behind the big 4 in the US. Maybe it was this that gave me the impression you wanted women footballers to promote themelves using their tits and arses rather than their sporting ability? My apologies for misconstruing you I never said that their sporting ability shouldn't come in to it, obviously it should. I'm just suggesting they pick some of the fittest players and use them to help promote the women's game, which could be done tastefully and without them getting their tits out. Though obviously if they want to get their tits out its up to them. The NBA did the same thing some years ago. They picked a handful of players and turned them in to superstars to promote the sport as a whole and it worked - making the game a lot more popular. Title: Re: England Women Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, September 7, 2009, 20:51:11 this thread is depressing. A shame that Norse Brunhildes couldn't beat the Teutonic Brunhildes....women's football should be enjoyed for what it is and not compared to men's. The frauleins are a very decent outfit....I'd like to think we've a chance but fear a mullering. Arriba does have a point though - they are generally pretty rubbish in comparison to their male counterparts Title: Re: England Women Post by: Batch on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 12:23:28 La was horrible The only good things I found in LA were: - Whale watching trip - Universal studios. - The tourist sights Bad things: - Drive everywhere - Too spread out - Pollution - Gridlock - Being taken to a gay bar by a black man. Mind you, as training courses go it wasn't too bad :) Happy days. Title: Re: England Women Post by: Reg Smeeton on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 18:35:43 Haha! Arriba does have a point though - they are generally pretty rubbish in comparison to their male counterparts But there's no point in comparing women to men...women generally are shorter, therefore have more difficulty with the high ball.
