I'm inclined to agree..last season we avoided loan players until the Jan window, by which time it was obvious we needed something to keep us up....this season feels a bit like 05/06 when we started the season with 3 or 4 loanees in the side. 2 loans is better than no one, a midfielder and a striker is ideal to bolster the squad. Agree it's not necessarily a bad thing to get loan players, especially if you can sign them later on, as it gives you a chance to see them...but more often than not you don't end up signing them. But that'll come with playing more games I suspect O'Brien is one of those whose end product has always been missing, which is why he ends up with us...the trick is to utilise what they're good at in some way, rather than ask them to do things they cannot. So it might be that he runs the ball to the corners to win a throw in, rather than trying to cross it, because it will just give the ball away. You then use Morrison to bomb in the throw. We can't forget that even Cox had played at Northampton prior to coming to us as had Parkin etc so were able to hit the ground running.

With a lot of the clubs up there in financial trouble I would imagine you can pick up decent young Scottish players a lot cheaper than their English counterparts if you know where to look (which seems to be Celtic in Swindon's case)

Can't really knock any of Wilson's signings so far, even Tope will come good, mark my words. The raw stuff is there he just needs exposure to proper football. He's used to nice youth and reserve football with other academy teams all trying to pass the ball around and show what good footballers they are. Wilson seems to have a good knack of picking up players who just need a little run in a first team before they start to look good. If they've come through their academy or coaching set-up we can be pretty sure that they will be able to pass, move into spaces to support team mates & generally know how the game should be played.
Hutchinson is I believe a Nottingham lad. I'm sure one of the guys I work with knows him & used to play with him or with a family member of his. I'll make enquiries tomorrow but I seem to recall my colleague telling me about him & how at schoolboy level he was playing in the school team with lads 4 -5 years older than him. Signed by Middlesborough from under Forest's nose & was on the fringe of the Boro first team before he went North.
