Southend are a good side. I think they'll beat us but we'll put up a good fight which wont be good enough for most people. Most of the thisis people wont see the performance and just see the final score as a defeat. Its not always that simple. If I were picking the team I'd probably go form Brez Smith Ifil Morrison Aljofree JPM Easton Peacock McNamee Paynter Cox Subs: Smith, Casal, Macklin, Nalis, Corr fuck knows what Malpas will go with probably Smith, Smith, Morrison, Aljofree, Casal, Easton, Peacock, Nalis, Timlin, Paynter, Cox. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: DV on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 13:24:43 So who in that team is going to provide any kind of service? We need some kind of possession to score. Can you honestly see that midfield offering any kind of meaningful contribution. Dunno, Easton, Peacock, Nalis and Timlin all started at Hartlepool and we managed to scre 3 goals. Wouldnt be my first choice of midfield at all and it doesnt look overally creative but I'm going to give them a chance before I condem them to being rubbish and Town losing 5-0. Game doesnt kick off for another half an hour and we're already moaning about the players performance, give them a bloody chance. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: Batch on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 13:27:19 I know we haven't been performing. I know sometime a shake is needed. I know I am setting myself up big time to look stupid but.
What the fuck kind of team is that?? Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: DV on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 13:28:37 DV I can't work you out pal... you come across as staunchly pro-Malpas, are you? No, I am not. I think its time is pretty much up and the only thing to save him now would be 6points from the next two games. However I am all for giving the team the players and the manager a chance. Its half 2 and we're already moaning like fuck. I think Pook is a shit footballer - I am amazed he is even still a professional footballer let alone in our starting 11 and personally I cant see what he adds to the team at all.....having said them I'll give him a chance to prove himself. The fact he hasnt got a game yet and the manager clearly doesnt rate him might have made him work harder and improve himself. We might (...and probably will) play shit and lose but lets wait till it actually happens first Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: glos_robin on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 13:31:49 And now we have Peacock in midfield who Malpas said couldn't cut it as a midfielder and said was a striker and Pook alongside him who Malpas said wasn't good enough and was trying to offload......what does that say about Malpas' judgement making skills on players. It more than suggests he doesn't really have a clue what he is doing and is clutching at straws. Pooks in the starting line-up despite having played zero minutes of 1st team football this season and is suddenly expected to change our fortunes.....
Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: chalkies_shorts on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 13:33:36 "If we go back to last season when we had a decent run, it's because we had a consistent team," he said.
"This season, we always seem to be changing one or two people through injury, illness or a poor performance "The last two weeks I said I would play the same team, but the last game we didn't do well and it's difficult to take." This is what Malpas said in yesterday's Adver - direct quotes. So we now have 2 new players in the back 4 and one playing in a different position from last week. We have 2 new players in midfield. So 5 out of 10 outfield players changed from last week. So MM, you want a settled team but as far I know there are no injuries and you could have played the same team and you haven't. Who's fault is that - the fans. If I was Ifill or Easton, I'd be knocking on your door Monday, if you're still there. What little confidence Ifill had must be well and truly shot. Quite alot of season ticket holders can't make midweek matches by all accounts, Northampton will probably bring 200 to 300 and I doubt there'll be many walk up sales. Recent history on midweek matches where we have been struggling has seen 4,500 turn up........Huddersfield last season was pretty poor if IRC around 4800 so thats kind of what I'd expect Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. From what our commentators said it seems like we played alright. First time in a while we've competed for the full game. I think we created enough chances to deserve a draw and sounds like Corr should have scored or got a penalty. I also think 3/4 weeks ago a good performace but defeat would have been enough but not now its all about the results. Tuesday is a MUST WIN game. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. With this in mind, we've got to stop the rot at home, and at least picking up a point would do that. Last season, we had a a mid table side, but we've lost a few players, Minge, Boob, Roberts and haven't exactly replaced them with anything better. Relegation scraps are usually entered into by a longish run of poor results somewhere in a season....the twice we've got relegated from this div, that has been the case, taking out the first game, we've one win in ten, that is the sort of run which can take you down, unless form really turns around, average mid table stuff isn't enough. Have we enough players in the squad up for a battle? Debatable.. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Oh could someone also let malpas know he can use 3 subs if he wants I'd prefer to hear we were lucky today and stole 3 points, something we cant seem to do at present. The games I've seen this season I've not been that impressed with any of the opposition. We are on this downward spiral where nothing goes right, changes to the management team are needed immediately, there is no believe from any quarter at present, just the same old same as every game, blind hope and faith from the directors that Malpas will turn this situation around must be at the end. Inspiration and luck is needed, he has neither. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: Crozzer on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 16:56:00 We need something like 43 points from the next 35 matches, if we get 4 pts. out of the next six games (tough fixtures ahead), that's 39 pts. out of 29 games. If we lose the next two home games, and only get a point or two from the next six games, we will almost need play-off form unless the other teams around us continue to under achieve.

I agree, for me it's also more damming that the fact Malpas has made significant changes to the team today a clear attempt to make a difference (Pook for instance) and still we lost. We're running out of options and I can't really see what else can be done with him still in charge. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: adje on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 18:11:37 Just got back. There was no way I was going to boo that performance-MM'S summary is spot on.The players showed plenty of desire today. The only criticism I have is that Mac should have come on at half time.Apart from the odd dodgy corner he scared them shitless and got quality balls in the box,Peacock had two great chances from his crosses. It wasn't a pen-Corr should have scored but hesitated thinking he was offside and tried to con the ref.Cox played really well and set up Paynter for the goal.It was a blow when Bill went off injured.Im downhearted about the result but at least saw somethings to give me a bit of hope.

Post by: DV on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 18:17:03 Penalty then, not that it did us any good last week.
Glad that the radio description of the performance seems pretty accurate according to our fans and even Southend fans. Same type of performance Tuesday with a better result then! How was Pook? Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: JanAageisGod on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 18:21:51 Mmm, back in as well after a frustrating day.
Agree there was plenty of effort but we just can't defend! Two bog standard goals from right wing crosses against a side missing both their first choice strikers too. The team selection did seem a bit panicky, though actually I thought Pook did ok. I think the most frustrating thing was the subs at one-one, leaving Timlin at left back did seem rather bizarre as we made the problem area even down the left even weaker defensively. That seemed to kill any momentum we had just gained. The weird thing was we played much better when behind, when we had something to defend at 0-0 or 1-1 we didn't. Fear? Morrison has ability but is it me or does he get dragged about a lot by strikers out wide? I don't know if that's his fault, or what he's meant to do, but it reminds me a bit of the Premier League defending where our back line would get pulled all over the place. It pains me to say it but the Southend centre halves were ugly, niggly, cheating fooks who would shirt pull, nudge people in the back and try anything to stop people playing or win the ball. Paynter was bullied effectively throughout. I'd like ours to be like that. I think we are in big trouble. Yeovil, Hereford and Crewe I think are worse than us from what I can tell. The 4th spot is rather too wide open for my liking. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: Stiv on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 18:55:18 My first away game this season and it was more enjoyable, if thats the right word, than watching them at home, hardly any booing or moaning just most fans getting behind the team.
As already has been said we still cant defend, what do they do in training? A more commited performance but final ball not good. Didnt think it was a penalty but he should have scored before anyway. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: Crozzer on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 19:01:49 ...and do we really want either of these two guys who are on the verge of being sacked for being shite? No, we want success, just wanted to make the point there are plenty out there. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 20:26:04 Anyone else think 100 goals could be on this season? I wouldn't have thought so. We conceded 100 in the Prem and to do that we conceded 4, 5 or 6 on several occasions, even a 7 at Newcastle. Although we now have more games in which to do it of course ::)Our defence just seems utterly ruined. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: leefer on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 20:45:58 All teams in this lge are going to lose away from home regularly...Leeds have lost at Posh and Millwall in the last 2 weeks,a 2-1 defeat at Southend is no disgrace....but losing your last 5 home matches certainly is,you can get away losing the odd away match if your home form is sound, sounds like we played ok today but its getting to the stage ware the table dosnt lie.
Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: alanmayes on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 20:51:16 Just checked the stats so far this season,of all the teams in League 1.
Top of the pile are Cheltenham who've conceded 31 from 11 games Crewe have conceded 26 from 11. If you look at the relegated teams from last season their stats are as follows: Bournemouth 72 conceded Gillingham 73 Port Vale 81 Luton 63 November was always going to be a tough month with the league fixtures, but at this rate we could be looking down the barrel a lot sooner. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Saturday, October 18, 2008, 21:12:41 Just got back (fuck reading this whole thing). We played well today, but as per we didn't take our chances. Peacock was guilty of missing the most, 4 good chances I counted. Ref was an absolute cunt.
Pook didn't do anything wrong for me, Casal did ok...thats about it. Really should've got more today, but their defence was staunch and when we did breach it we squandered our chances. Good day out tho. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: herthab on Sunday, October 19, 2008, 08:32:58 Just got back.
A few points.. 1. We are the unluckiest team in the world (Or we have the unluckiest manager) 2. It was never a penalty. (He should've scored) 3. The ref was indeed a total cunt. Good day out apart from the result, nice to see Adje again (4-1 next game mate!) 3. Title: Re: Swindon V Saaarfend Matchday Thread. Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, October 19, 2008, 09:31:28 1.
