Title: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 06:52:31 Wot no team news from TCP123?
It's going to be a tough one, I think we can get a draw based on nothing more than wild optimism. Dongs 1 Town 1 8123 Cox 39 Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 06:57:41 Argh!
Morning, This is one of the fixtures during the season that I reeeeeally want to get three points from (not that I don't always want us to win but you know what I mean), I despise them. Sadly, I have a horrible feeling this STFC fan anarchy could roll over to a third week. I'm sticking with my prediction of a 2-1 loss. But I'm still dreaming of a victory! C'mon the Town! Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Luci on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 06:58:29 Im really nervous about this as playing like we did in the first half v Colchester will earn us nothing more than a potential thrashing.
Hoping Marshall starts as think his pace could be the key, however sure JP wants to play vs his former club. Can we leave him there after the game I wonder? :D Im hoping it could be close but unfortunately I can only see a loss here. A win would be a huge bonus. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: michael on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 07:29:22 I'm going to this now.
Franchise have just lost their best player and Captain. They are reeling. The fans are unhappy about it too. They are there for the taking. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: michael on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 07:30:55 I made most of that last post up, but I can confirm that I am definitely going, and also that they sold one of their players.
I'm not sure if anyone expects us to win, a draw would be a good result if you ask me. A heavy defeat would seriously crank up the pressure on the boss. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: pumbaa on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 07:41:12 I fear a morale sapping loss. A draw would be a good result, but hoping we sneak a win, just because its MK. I'll be painting.......

Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 10:42:08 2-2, decent game but poor defending at set pieces costs us I agree. Then, this thread to turn into an argument between those who thing 2-2 away at MK is our best result for a decade and other who think it's shit and someone should be hung and set on fire, because we would have won if [insert member of back 4] could stay in position. Followed by someone else pointing out that he wouldn't have been out of position if [insert other member of back 4] hadn't been wandering up the pitch somewhere and if the midfield could tackle and or keep possession. That's how it's gonna go down people. It would be nice if you could surprise me for a change. Oh, and someone will get drunk and do something funny and stupid on the away day trip, providing the rest of us with some much needed light entertainment. Good times. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Batch on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 13:26:54 'interesting formation if that/OS is correct. Not sure I like it myself as I though we should be concentrating on tightening up a bit. Feel free to laugh and point if we keep a clean sheet.
Full team if you haven't worked it out: Peter Brezovan: Jack Smith, Jerel Ifil, Hasney Aljofree, Yinka Casal; Craig Easton, Lilian Nalis, Michael Timlin, Anthony McNamee; Simon Cox, Billy Paynter Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Power to people on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 13:30:43 S'pose it gives a tight midfield with the 3 of them with Mcnamee given licence to cause problems, but I worry if he has a bad game our attacking options are nullified - have to wait and see I suppose

Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 14:40:05 MK Dongs are definately the better team so far, we seem to be creating virtually no chances and every time Dongs attack they sound like they are liable to score.

My mate was at Exeter vs. Luton today - text me at H-T stating that Parkin didn't look up to much, he scored the only goal in that win. Never underestimate SSP! Anywho, we needed that win. Lovley. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: A Gent Orange on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 17:50:56 Great result even though the penalty caused my painting to go a bit wonky. It will be a happy evening though.
The only surprise at the end was that once he was on Marshall wasn't taking the corners, Timlin was, because against Colchester I thought that the 'other little fellas corners were some of the best we've put in all season. Especially after Pat K. nearly scored from one. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 17:57:41 Was it a penalty? Thus far all I know is that it's a classic case of Malpas saying it was fair and that Di Matteo disagrees.
Quote from: Robert Di Matteo Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo was unhappy with the late penalty decision that cost his side a point against Swindon, but says his team need to be strong enough to deal with it. The Dons suffered their first league defeat at stadiummk since January when Simon Cox converted a controversial 89th-minute spot-kick - given by referee Steve Bennett for a foul on Craig Easton by substitute Jemal Johnson. Having already fallen behind when Billy Paynter capitalised on a Sean O'Hanlon mistake after half-time, the Dons had hit back on 64 minutes through Jude Stirling. But Cox's penalty left them ruing a string of missed chances in the first half. Di Matteo said: "I felt their penalty was a very harsh decision from the ref, we've just watched it back on the TV and I'd rather not say too much about that. "We need to be stronger than this stuff - the opposition, the referee and the opposition crowd. We just need to keep working and not make errors like we did today. "We started the game well, created three or four chances and I was quite happy with the first half. "The heat played a big part, the tempo wasn't as high as I'd like it to be and then we gave a little present to Swindon with the first goal. "We managed to get one back and I kind of felt we would win the game in the last 10 minutes." Having watched his team battle to break down a dogged Robins resistance, Di Matteo said he wasn't surprised at the visitors' approach. He said: "The fact that Swindon put 10 men behind the ball and closed down the spaces - that made it very hard. But we created three or four good chances that we should have scored from. "We know teams will come here and put 10 men behind the ball - we'll have to work on it. "I would have been happy with the draw in the end after we went down and got one back. But it's one of those games that just goes against you. "It's good we have a home game next week and I expect a big performance from the players." Thought they were better first half, us shaded the second. great to see paynter feck up, couldnt happen to a nicer bloke. Thought cox had messed it up though! Was never a penalty I wouldnt go as far to say he changed the game, but marshall gave us a lot fresher imputus from midfield. tres impressed. 2nd Half - Was a lot better - thought cox had fucked it up, but was a nice little lay off in the end, and good finish. Looked like Smith completely missed the ball when he come out for a punch for their goal. I thought it was a Pen - but i also thought their one was a Pen at the end! Other stuff..... The ground was sexy - very modern and nice padded seats. But it didnt feel like a football stadium. There were small pockets of atmosphere, and too many open spaces and echos. It was just strange and quiet and didnt feel like your normal away match. Also its very hard to take Franchise seriously anyway. And I dunno what Hansy was doing in 1st half....he got some stick from the fans for booting the ball out when he had ages to control it and turn. So he turns round and starts doing cocky hand movements to our fans! He did it about three times - he'll soon get the boos JPM gets if he keeps that up (not that i agree with booing our own players). And i still think Casal is shit. I think it was some kind of illness, not Keith Scott-style nerves/pie consumption.

Phil Smith was rock solid and pulled off 3 really good saves to keep us in it. He took his chance today with two hands and got us the 3 points today. Although I seemed to have missed their goal....all I saw was the corner come in and them score. Everyone else seemed to see Smith flap and miss it....so I'll have to have another look I think. Sean O'Hanlon is really fucking shit and the first goal fuck up couldnt have happened to a nicer wanker. Penatly was debatable but do think Bennett might have been making up for the clear foul on Marshall by Lewington who loves giving away penalties against us. Much more battle in the team today and thought every one did well, hard to pick a man of the match but Phil Smiths contribution played a big part in the 3 points today Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: JOHNNY REEVES on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 18:55:46 three cheers for o,hanlon.

The goalkeeper, in for the dropped Peter Brezovan, completely missed Mark Wright's corner allowing Jude Stirling to bundle home an equaliser on 65 minutes. I'm probably being slightly unfair to Smith, maybe its because I just dont rate him I pick up on any mistake he makes. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: glos_robin on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 19:15:18 Just got back and a very satisfying win. 1st half was possibly the most boring game of football I've ever witnessed but was worth it for the second half.
Cox looked lively and continues to link well with paynter. Nalis was good today as was Easton who I feel is desperately needed back in the centre. Smith played on both sides today and was pretty good and bar distribution Ifil was immense again making 1 or 2 last ditch challenges. Aljofree was also better but his baiting of fans should see him have the captains armband taken away as he isn't captain material. Marshall also look very lively when he came on which is promising. The only negative was Smith......all this bollocks about him commanding his box better was proven to be rubbish. The goal was his fault, pretty much every cross he punched and flapped often not knowing where the ball was going. He made some top saves but all keepers should be good shot stoppers its the other areas such as crosses and decision making where the cream rises to the top. As well as the goal in the 1st half he almost cost us a goal where he whacked the ball straight at their striker and also when they hit the bar in the 1st half he was poorly positioned 3 or 4 yards off his line so if it had been going in he would of been in trouble. Brez has taken alot of criticism and rightly so and so now must Smith, IMO he is no better than Brez and unfortunately at this present time with Brez low on confidence and Smith not as good as people make so our goalkeeping situation is a bit up in the air at the moment. Admittedly it was Smiths first game back so maybe he needs time to bed back in but today was far from being an assured display. Best bit of the day though was after the game the number of bites my AFC wimbledon flag got was priceless. MK is a souless town and the stadium just didn't feel like a football ground. Not for me. I was confident today with Smith between the sticks. He made a few little errors but nothing as stupid as the ones Brez has been making. He still pulled off some top saves to keep us in the match and without those saves we wouldnt have won. I find with any players, it takes them a few games to get back into their stride but after today I think the keepers shirt belongs to Phil Smith and its up to him to lose it before Brez gets another sniff. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 19:49:54 Have to say I am confident of Phil Smith's shot stopping ability, but always worry with crosses into the box.
As said, the save he made in the second half from the header was simply superb, but he did flap at a few crosses. That said, I'd say he did well enough to keep his place. The defence played much better this week, especially Jack Smith. First time I've seen Casal play, and I thought he did alright. Ifil's defensive work is first rate, but his distribution lets him down. As for Aljofree, he got a load of stick for putting the ball into touch, but as he was running back towards his own goal Phil Smith shouted to him to get rid, so that's what he did. There was no way he could tell from his position that he had time to control the ball & clear it up field, and the abuse he got wasn't necessary. That said, he should know better than to react and gesture to the crowd. On the whole though the had a good game. As it has been said, Marhall caused them problems when he came on, but I thought that McNamee did when he was on (in the second half). Odd that the stats say we had 58% possession, cause it seemed like we conceeded possession a lot, and kept it tight. All in all a great win today, the only thing that could have made it better, would of been Sean (the greedy bastard) O'Hanlon giving away the pen as well :D Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: leefer on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 19:56:42 Its great that we have two good keepers,i prefer Brez but it shows that although we dont have a massive squad players who fall below the standard will get dropped..that hasnt been the case for alot of seasons.

McGovern could be third choice now, Easton started ahead of him today and the way Marshall has been playing wont be long before he deserves a start. Have to say with Marshall i thought he was quick but a bit clueless, the more i see him the more i think he is technically pretty good, im very excited by him, could be a right sided McNamee in the making Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, August 30, 2008, 19:59:14 I hate Dongs, I love Swindon - Brilliant result. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 00:03:49 Smith deserves to start next league game. Brez has flapped about a little to much in the first few games, but even if Smith wasn't miles better and made a few errors it seems like an unnecessary change to a team with a good away win.
Aljofrees fan ribbing seemed good humoured to me. Not in the same league as cunty brown cunt anyway. Psychic. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: axs on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 00:04:46 smith was good today from my limited view, would definately stick with him for Hereford.
Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: michael on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 08:06:46 The MK website describes our game plan as expansive, swashbuckling and organised. Can't disagree with that.
What did everyone make of the ground? I would like to think that Fitton had a good look around and picked up some ideas for any future development down here. The open concourse, for example, was good. Lack of any kind of scoreboard or clock as not so good (unless it was above our heads, I didn't look). I'd make a good architect I think. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: ronnie21 on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 09:16:57 Basically, there were about 10-15 Town fans having a right go at Alojofree at one stage in the first half and he made a hand gesture to them (not the wanker sign, just the 'you talk too much' kind of sign) Agreed!! There are a section of fans who seem to want to pick on one player and when something goes wrong the masses seem to follow. Pook for example, has not been as bad as some make out (never going to be an an above average player), at the start of the season it was Paynter's turn for the idiots to turn against - his goals and overall play soon shut them up. Now it appears to be Hasney who they want to write about and shout at. And what the hell was the booing about, we were away from home - not played that well - but holding a team who could well be somewhere in the shake-up, and as our second-half performance showed we did enough!Football fans make me laugh though. One minute they're gobbing off all sorts of obscenities then they get the tiniest of reactions from the player and the next minute it's "Ooooh, you shouldn't be doing that to your own fans.....oooooh, fuck me I'm mentally scarred for life....ooooh, your worse than Hitler you are" Shut the fuck up please. It's cringeworthy when your fans have a go at a player like that. It just was not called for. And it's not as if it's going to make him play better is it? Wankers. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Luci on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 09:19:55 Next away game Im going to video record the reception the team get at the HT whistle. I will pay closer attention in future. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 09:25:54 I thought Smith did a good job in goal, he saved us from some certain goals. The rest of the defense looked more solid than it has done. Hard to fault anyone really, well except for the corner. Jack Smith coped well on the left and credit where it is due, looked more solid defensively and still just as good going forward. Casal did fine and Amanwaah was solid when he had to come on. Ifil and Aljofree seemed to work well together.
I feel that the difference yesterday was that we definitely had more fight about us. Having Easton in there helped, albeit on the right hand side, but his energy and work rate was great. Thought Nalis looked a hell of a lot more battling than he has done. Timlin broke up the play well, just a shame he couldn't do much with the ball. McNamee had a decent enough game without being amazing. Marshall did really well when he came on and looks to be a decent impact sub at the moment. I'm not sure if McGovern has done something to piss Malpas off, but I was surprised he wasn't involved at any stage. Paynter and Cox are definitely forging a great striking partnership. I know there is a lot of talk about Barry Corr being better than Paynter, but if these two keep playing well together he's going to find it hard to get a look in. We do need to work on set pieces though, defending we look bad, attacking not much better. Overall absolutely delighted with the win and hope we can carry the momentum forward to our next away games. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 09:29:20 People who travel and pay to watch their football clubs will always reserve the right to boo if they so wish. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: THE FLASH on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 10:58:05 Enjoyed the result but i was very disturbed at times in the first half.
The team seemed to lack any gameplan in my opinion and there were times when players got pocession and didnt seem to know what to do with it. Vastly improved second half and agree with other posters that we seemed to have more fight and battle and really made the MK defenders panic at times by chasing down loose balls that we were leaving in the first half. I disagree with some posters on here about giving players stick....personal abuse is wrong but when a player makes a basic error and the fans groan i dont expect players to make gestures to the supporters - Fact is - you are a professional football player and shouldnt be thumping a ball into row z when you have time and space to control the ball!!!!! Three points are three points and lifts a bit of gloom - roll on Aldershot (im going) ...i reckon we will do well in the MM Cup this year!!! I have to admit I did Boo Steve McMoan, but he was a scouse git & deserved every bit of it. :D Other than that I do agree, it does none of them any good to get that kind of treatment. It just puts them in a frame of mind where they are scared to make any other mistakes, which just makes it all the more likely. Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: tans on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 11:18:09 Just got back and a very satisfying win. I wondered who that was with the flag. Top work sir. Were you sat in the corner by the steward that nickedthe football? Whats all that about? Yes it was 0-0, but we were attacking at our end second chance. For me 0-0 at HT was job done. Couldnt believe our fans were booing.
As for the Aljofree thing, it was the third time he had put it out like that, not under pressure, not even gaining any ground up the pitch. Its pretty standard proceedure you will get some grief if you keep doing that. But Malpas said he was ill, so should forget it. Was a shame Aljofree was one of the only players not to come over at the end, he should have buried the hatchet. I dont want to criticise too much, because its a great win, and totally unexpected (a real pools buster). But defensively I thought we were poor, and if we dont get more organised we will struggle to do much this season. Its a lot like 2004-05, good attack, defensive shambles. Thats not a criticism of Malpas, because I think we are struggling with players who arent fit (Amankwaah, Aljofree, Casal), players who are still learning (Casal, Kanyuka) and both goalkeepers have made mistakes this season as well. All credit to Paynter (menace all game, good finnish). Marshall looked dangerous, very impressed. Easton ran non stop all game then popped up in another 90th minute box to box run to win a penalty, great engine. Nalis got some tackles in and won a fair few 50-50's. I know its early, but we needed that big time. Just hope we show the same determination on tuesday and friday! Title: Re: Official MK Dongs v Swindon Town Matchday thread Post by: sonic youth on Sunday, August 31, 2008, 12:41:42 wish i could get to hereford on friday. gah.
casal looked as though he'd changed his style of play a little - looked to take the safe option rather than risk losing posession by trying to play the ball out. i assume this is something that has been coached into him over the last week or two. as a result he looked considerably more assured at the back before his injury. as for booing players, i think there's a distinction that can be made; - giving a player some stick for being poor or making a horrendous mistake is pretty much a given. some respond well to it. - booing and slagging off a player regardless of what they do - duke, pook, vincent et al - is just fucking stupid and counterproductive. An easy enough drive. Then a dodgy pub but I got food and beer, and there were plenty of town fans about. Oh and despite what people may say, it wasn't actually THAT far from the ground. First half was poor if you ask me, both teams just seemed disinterested. 2nd half we looked dangerous and it lifted us all in the away end. Getting that goal off Seano was class! I thought Smith did well apart from a couple of dodgy kicks straight at McStrikers, and Cox and Paynter linked up well - they're looking dangerous. A great three points which I was hoping we'd get, but I wasn't holding out much hope. Can't complain!!! Cox & Paynter doing the biz again is really encouraging, sort the defence out (and picking Smith over Brez makes us a stronger unit IMO, even if he's not individually better) and I'm still hopeful we can have a decent season. |
