Title: 'Singing' section
Post by: SwindonTownFans on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, 22:54:05
Swindon have been given the 'West' side of Wembley stadium. I will email the club tomorrow to arrange a section for 'singing' fans. Hopefully Watkins will promote this in some way. I have propose the singing section to be sections 130-138 corner and behind the goal. Spread the word!

Ticket prices £26-£46 adults

Open to suggestions.

Sounds like a good idea. Worth giving plenty of reasoning for it in your email

- difficult to get atmosphere going last time
- some fans were moaned at for jumping out of seats at 'moments of excitement'
- some fans were moaned at by some for singing
- would benefit the fans who want to sing, the fans who want to observe, and the atmosphere as a whole

:)

I genuinely believe that the 'Circus Factor' will generate more of an atmosphere this time. Unless we play awfully.

Wembley hasn't been able to generate a decent atmosphere since it got rebuilt but the idea is certainly a good one. It cant exactly make things any worse...

It was the large gaps between sections of supporters that really killed the atmosphere. If they bunch us up a bit that will help.

I firmly believe that if we had worn red against Millwall things would have been a lot better. It just felt wrong that we were wearing the other teams colours and it's a decision that I will never understand and still annoys me now.

This is going to be different, it's a day out, no real pressure, hopefully the team will play their football and we can all enjoy it. Also there's a month and a half to get ready for it as opposed to a couple of weeks.

I think it should be all one price for a game like this. Allow all the season ticket holders & guests & people on the database to be in  one section so that the normal fans who go every week home or away can sit together to create an atmosphere together & the people who just want  to turn up cos we are at Wembley can sit on their own & enjoy the spectel of a cup final.

Kind of makes sense but I expect there will be some day trippers who will still want to join in with the atmosphere even if they aren't regulars or even Town fans.

Looks like tickets will go on sale from next Tuesday!

On the Chesterfield site, it looks like they have been a certain number in each of the 3 available price bands.  The thing that makes me laugh is of their initial 20k they have only been given about 2k at £26? And 8k available at both £36 and £46?  Is this likely to be their call, or Wembley and the FA trying to line their pockets?

I missed the play off final due to my sister in law booking up for her fucking wedding a year before and not being willing to change the date, bitch.

This will be my first trip to the new Wembley and look forward to it, went to the play off finals at the old Wembley and they were something special but the day both those times flew by and my memory of both fades with time, yes we all remember the noise of the ball smacking in off the post and the baking hot day against Sunderland with Alan Mac's defelcted shot but the build up passed me by totally.

It won't this time, I am leaving Somerset at 7.30 on the train and having a few hours in London before the game, catching the build up fully this time.

One little thing to remember, quite important as well, is that its that weekend the clocks go forwards so we will lose that extra hour in bed the morning of the game so if you are catching the train like I am make sure you change the clocks before you set the alarm! :D

This is a good idea and I hope it's a goer. There's a nasty taste in the mouth from the Millwall game. So much so, I'm giving serious consideration to staying in the boozer during the game. I will not be told what to do by some fucking part timer who has jumped on the dicanio bandwagon.

Title: Re: 'Singing' section

The singing area is a good idea...but there does need to be some live & let live on both sides.  At Wembley last time, there were plenty of stories like the one above (with less regular supporters getting irritated with more vocal fans standing, singing etc.)  But it cuts both ways.  I also saw a fair few having a go at families etc for not getting up on their feet and joining in with the singing...which, if anything, made me cringe even more.

Important point for me this time, though, is that the 'day trippers'/'part timers'/'glory hunters' (delete as appropriate) are not made to feel unwelcome - as many were last time - by some of our more regular fans.  Every 'part timer' who turns up at Wembley next month is a potential regular fan.  If we are going to grow as a club, we need to welcome this lot in...not put them off.  There was a lot of unnecessary snobbery from some of the more regular fanbase after our last visit.

Either we want to grow the fan base, or we don't.  Stay as a lower league club with 4,000 to 5,000 season ticket holders, or double that number?  You can't have both.  You have to make the less regular fans feel welcome at games like these, or accept that we're going to remain a small club in perpetuity.  I know which I'd choose.

I agree to a point.  The prize isn't as big, but I just have a feeling this time is going to be better though.

Ardiles makes a good point, it does cut both ways. However, I'm hopeful that allocating an area for 'singing' fans will deal with that. Anybody in that area can expect nothing less than OTT passion, and anybody outside it can't blame others around them for being too quiet

The ticket system needs the following options before you choose your ticket:

[ ] Regular fan who likes to sing and stand at exciting moments
[ ] Regular fan who likes to sing but can't stand because kids are in tow
[ ] Regular fan who sits in the Arkell's ;-)
[ ] Occasional fan who goes to a few big games per season
[ ] Day tripper
[ ] I'm only going because of a family member. I really support Chelsea.

FA Cup is something like that. But as soon as you get to finals the FA like to take as much of it as they can. It's not like football clubs need the money or anything...

One thing that could work in favour of the singing section would be if ST holders get priority - that way they get to choose the best seats for them and their mates. Then all the tag-along day-trippers have to take what's left.

Chesterfield have done this, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us follow suit.

See a flaw here, how many ST holders are non singers in the Arkells who would take like minded mates. You'd be better off saying anyone who would normally go in the TE or possibly DRS or travel away go in any singing section?

I don't pocess a ST anymore but prob do as much if not more singing than alot of ST holders.

Anyhow ST holders will get priority I'd have thought.

Jimmy took the words out of my mouth.  It's a fact of life.  We shouldn't criticise people for showing an interest in STFC just because they don't live & breath it (yet).  So what if they want to pick & choose games?  It's a free world.  I just don't understand why some fans find this so offensive.  Each to their own.

There are going to be plenty of fans there next month watching us for the first time, some of which will then go on to see a few games in the run in...and a few who will go on, one day, to be season ticket holders.  The cold shoulder gets us nowhere.  We should be rolling out the red carpet.

The only people that annoy me are people who don’t care and will never care about STFC. I don't think the sinign section is a bad idea at all. I think that songs generating there will spread to the other areas no problem. The trouble last time was the sheer size of the stadium with small pockets of people trying to get things going. Once the noise starts it will spread no problem.

Yes we don't need the plastics as such but the more Swindon fans at Wembley the better IMO more money for us as well even if they don't sing, don't really care as long as they dont deprive the true Swindon fans of tickets, I don't have a massive problem with it, its all money in the coffers and possible extra backing for the team.

We get the 30,000 numbers because every regular fan takes family members and friends so a ST holder who wants to sing will still have a number of non regulars with them whether sitting in the singing section or not. Think arriba got it right by saying there was to many small groups trying to get the singing going at Wembley.  I like the idea of trying to group together but expect a good percentage to be non regulars. We managed to get 4,000 singing together at Leicester and think we will do the same at Wembley.

For me a 'noisy' secition is great I'd certainly join in, but equally another important factor for me is the view, ideally I'd like to be on the sides for the better view so if for e.g the noisy section was low behind the goal I'd avoid due to view - and also there is the price factor.

But all in all a noisy section would be good as long as it is not for people to stand and sing but for people to stand at the right moments as most of us do

Decent idea, think it will tough to implement unless the club get 100% behind it though.

My biggest hope would be that the singing area would naturally become a standing area as well.

Don't remember there being a problem with the atmosphere the other times we have been at Wembley so I'm just putting Millwall down to a bad day. We need the families, friends, and even the day trippers to come in the red of Swindon and I'm convinced the singing will just catch on again this time. Let's be honest about it without the extra people we would look pretty shit with 10,000 of us there.

Why don't  "the singers" break into 2 or 3 sections around the stadium? That will create a better atmosphere.

I think we may get about as many as we did for Millwall, maybe a bit more. Although arguably a less important game than two years ago, the tickets are cheaper, there may have been people put off by the 'Millwall factor' who will come this time, may get a few Hammers go along etc.

Also, r4e, those outside it should try and respect other's wishes re persistent standing, then it really does cut both ways.

When you get a ticket, let me know the seat number, so I can come and stand right infront of you! I'm only 6'3", should be a giggle?

He probably bursts footballs with his walking stick when they fly over the fence.

I'm capable of standing, and have done so on numerous occasions (out of necessity rather than choice) but considerate of those behind me who may not be able to see if I do. I am moaning about the arrogance and selfishness of those who see it as a right to deprive others of an acceptable view

I'm not about to change my opinion, neither, I suspect, are you, so I'll leave it there.

It's all about the newer Simon Ferry song to the tune of Denis by Blondie. For Cibbochi I take no credit at all, but it's basically a Whitney Houston song.

We pretty much make up all the songs in the pub or on the way to the ground.

The club are also looking at the option of creating a ‘singing area’ where fans who like to chant can be together to watch the game and cheer on their team.

“We will certainly look at that and discuss what the ticket office can do to facilitate that, as it would certainly be good to have an area of vocal fans cheering on the team like that,” Watkins said. “It will be a brilliant day for everyone connected with the club.”

I quite like

We, all love Di Can-io, Di Can-io,
We, all love Di Can-io, Di Can-iooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
We all love Di Canio, Di Canio

To the tune of the children's classic, 'Heads shoulders knees and toes'. I sang that all the way up the A419/7 the other day (*cross thread reference) because Talksport was so poor.

That Kennedy one is fantastic. Someone better at this than me could surely get Devera's name into Pulp's Disco 2000 as well? (His name is Dev-er-ah, Dev-er-ah, etc)

First attempt...

Oh they were signed within an hour of each other,
they said they could be from the same mother,
Smithy and Devera, Devera,
Barnet never suited ya,

Oh when they said that we might go up
And get to Wembley in the Johnstone's cup
Oh we never doubted ya,
Cos we all follow ya,

Oh Devera do you recall,
When-the Town were very poor,
on the bounce, you-know we lost four,
Leon Clarke, oh he couldn't score
We just couldn't take any more

Let's all meet up, they'll be thirty thousand,
We'll lift the cup, and the oxford they'll all moan,
be there, 2 o clock, under the arch down Wembley road,
I never knew that this could happen,
Looks like we're in League Two only on looooan,
We'll celebrate in May, down the County Road

Hall & Oates could start off like this. No idea how to do the chorus though.

He picked the ball up and he scored a goal
Plays for Swindon Town

That Cibocchi song is nothing short of brilliance!

It's clearly had an effect on him already. He has just tweeted ' I love you swindon townnnnnnnnnnn' and that he wants to spend his career in beautiful swindon. Is it actually him?

So how many of these efforts are going to be taken up by the Town End Choir?

Title: Re: 'Singing' section
Post by: jayohaitchenn on Friday, February 10, 2012, 12:00:27
None. It's not a fucking free-for-all.

None. It's not a fucking free-for-all.

You are of course right, but not for that reason.

By the time the singers turn up in the Town End on a Saturday afternoon/Tuesday evening most of them are so pissed they can hardly remember their own names, let alone the words to an overly complex song. :)

Another reason to stick to the well known & simple songs at Wembley

Are Swindon's dreams so hard to beat
Every time Ferry plays it to feet
Paolo di Canio's in the neighbourhood
The fans flock in, as well they should
I wanna see you, wanna see you fight
With Caddis and Ritchie tearing up the right
Yeah Yeah

The club are also looking at the option of creating a ‘singing area’ where fans who like to chant can be together to watch the game and cheer on their team.

“We will certainly look at that and discuss what the ticket office can do to facilitate that, as it would certainly be good to have an area of vocal fans cheering on the team like that,” Watkins said. “It will be a brilliant day for everyone connected with the club.”
