Had a look at Scooby doo's but the insurance is too much. Nearly a grand for a 3 year old one.
Not too keen on imports tbh. Golf's are reliable, it looks good, should get a good deal on my car now...

I pay £1200 a year on an 05 plate Type R.
I'm 24 with 3 years NCB and a clean licence.
Type R is very expensive to insure, group 17, a Ferrari or Aston Martin is 20. That should give you an idea.
Not just the buying and insuring you have to think about mind. I pay £140 a tyre, and a set of front tyres lasts on average 9-12k miles.
It needs an oil change every 6-12k miles plus regular top ups cos of it's high reving nature. You should allways use fully synthetic oil in a Type R too, preferbly 0W-30, 0W-40 or 5W-40.
I have test driven the new Golf GTi and it is a very nice car but it's a different animal to the Type R.
The Golf is a fair bit heavier and 'floats' around corners where as the Type R glides. Performance wise there is nothing between them, both do 0-60 in 6.6 secs and 0-100 in 16 secs.
For a grown up GTi with lots of toys and luxury, get the Golf.
For raw, edge of the seat thrils, get the Type R.
The Type R is a real driver's car and you have to work it but god it's fun.
Hope that helps.

I know about the tyres. I have low profiles now so cost a packet which isn't a great shock.
I'm gonna sit down go through the brochures, and get a few test drives!
