Is there even a sound business case for a hotel in that part of town? Even if there is a demand (which I doubt), hotels need 24/7 car parking facilities. Where's that going to be? Underground? Can't wait to see the plans!

Doubt it Jurys Inn is a couple of minutes walk away and then you have Travelodge round the corner?

Won't ever happen if the Council (remotely) have their wits about them, its why Power never got his consented houses without building the training ground.
They didn't have their wits about them with the Speedway and the contractor for the Oasis is still stringing them along

Can't imagine the current hierarchy having the wherewithal to bring legitimate 3rd party funding on board.
What's the carrot in these cases? A cut of future income or a debt that could sink the club if the development doesn't result in a significant upturn in income.

It will never happen.
What I could see happening under this lot though is they start to build housing/a hotel on the car park and then funds will have conveniently dried up. So we're left with a brand new estate on the car park with a crumbling CG in the background. Bit like the speedway
Or they take the up front money for any hotel, casino, shop or whatever the fuck goes on and sell the club for £1 and fuck off leaving us with a shite contract for about 25 years that we get no benefit from.

For a town that is hardly a tourist hot spot and has no decent medium sized music venues for gigs and things, I think the town has enough hotels personally.

Brings us back to the conundrum of “what’s in it for them”? Except, of course, for Morfuni’s long standing love for the club.

Having worked in hotels for several years I can say the town not being a tourist hotspot isn't what's important.
We are very well placed for easy journeys to many parts of the country which makes us very attractive to coach trips. Along with events such as Fairford where the various participating countries put their crews up in hotels here. You then add in many companies will use the town centre hotels here for putting their staff up rather than London because that plus the train fair is still significantly cheaper.
I'm not saying a hotel at the County Ground would be full 7 days a week but there is definitely enough call to pitch one going up.

Acting as overspill for the Cheltenham Festival is another example of what you're saying...

Any serious organisation wouldn’t be trying to self fund such a large project
Serious organisations pay their debts on time though, and have access to credit
Surely that's what they tell the fans to keep them happy - better than "it's not happening".

An example of that actually, I remember being at the gym in Alexandra House before it closed and there was about 100 irish blokes staying in there during Cheltenham Gold Cup and getting a coach or a train from there.

Surprised nobody has converted the old Brunel Rooms to one to be honest. That must just be rotting.
