One thing - I don't like the title of the thread as he's clearly both and they're not mutually exclusive.
The question was probably more to do with whether Fury could back up his pre-match hype

It's fine to say these things if you were raised differently.

Why are people expecting enlightenment from a boxer? He hits people. He's good at it.

There's a difference between expecting enlightenment and expecting him to just be a decent human being. I expect the latter from most people regardless of their career.

Only because we're omnimedia victims. Expecting acceptable behaviours only creates dull media poodles out of people that don't believe what they're saying. Fury's only qualification for talking about anything is that he hits people hard. As someone said further up, when he talks about society he's no more interesting or relevant than the bloke in the pub. Just tune out. Or hit him.

Tyson Fury responds to Sports Personality of the Year criticism - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35055146As an aside a few more people know who Greg Rutherford is now which I suspect was the desired outcome.

I'm starting to want Fury to win the very unimportant and immensely boring sports personality of the year. Used to be a good watch, must got too much like a massive love in in recent years.
Rutherford's made himself look a bit of a tool. But he won't lose much sleep about that. Wish I could jump into a sandpit as well as him.

You want a homophobic sexist to win cos you're bored of a competition that never meant anything to begin with?
