History rewriting to prove what? Michael Smith got 8 goals in 20 appearances. So with that in mind let's rewrite your list;

Mason 5 from 22 appearances
Pritchard 8 from 44 appearances
Ranger 10 from 27 appearances
N'Guessan 8 from 31 appearances
Ajose 10 from 21 appearances

Michael Smith 8 20 appearances.

So based on strike rate per game, MS was our 2nd best striker last year. Why can't he do it again?

Not rewriting history at all, stating facts. So Smith replaces Ranger lets say. Where are the goal replacements for Ajose/N'Guessan/Pritchard/Mason? Williams? he could get 10 in the season if he's lucky.

Truth is last season we scored a lot of goals and maybe dont need to replace them all, but we will sure as hell need to sort the defence out, which may be likely. I feel though that defence is the area most in need of experience so we dont get bullied by most of the teams in the league.

We will see of course. Just think the squad lacks a little magic/individual brilliance that can pick you up valuable points.

I know what you are getting at but, in truth, very few teams in L1 have any 'magic' in their ranks.

I seem to remember we didn't do too bad during the fag end of the season sans Ranger, Mason, Ajose and Pritchard missed a fair few games with suspensions etc.

I still reckon we will have one of the best midfields in L1 and, of course, the best keeper.

I still maintain we will miss Troy more than any of the above

The squad isn't finished. We need at least 4 more bodies and I'm sure we'll get them.

We'll miss Pritch on the pitch (although I won't miss people moaning about him), as for the others I don't think any of them were in the side for the last few games and we seemed to do ok.

I see what you're getting at but as Jayo says we still have signings left to make plus others will play more games/fill more attacking roles than last season.

Oh and out of all those players you've listed I think we only had 2 on the books at this time last season anyway. One of those was Mason and 3 of his 5 goals came in one game.

What's happened to Mason, has he gone anywhere?

I thought Mason's contract with Spurs has/will expire.

Perhaps he'll be a free agent soon?.....

But do we need another midfielder? especially when they are a potential sick-note?

Also the only one to score after 14th February was Pritchard and we did alright between then and May.

Sounds promising

According to Sam's twitter feed we should have got hammered.

We put out what would be close to our 1st XI and time and again Bromley tore us a new one down the left.

Augurs well!
