Tomorrow I have a day off from tour where I will be stuck in a hotel in Sarfend. What is there to do in this pit people of TEF. It doesn't have to include masturbation. Thats a given. Should I indulge in eating cockles and jellied eels, steal a car and go boy racing down the seafront, like the locals or is there something better to do?

Go round to Sturrocks and have a haggis lunch.

The Norfolk Broads are just 2½ hours away by car from there. You could go and explore. Or if that doesn't appeal, there's Cambridge (1½ hours away) and London (1 hour) both within easy reach.

Have some jellied eels, then throw them up off the end of the pier. Southend got a game on?

If you fancy going to the seaside, but don't like the more tacky resorts, not far up the coast is a resort which is like travelling back in time - Frinton on Sea. It's a truly lovely spot, especially with weather like this. I'm not sure whether it is still the case. but several years ago it didn't even have a fish and chip shop.

Actually, having just looked on google maps, it's further than I remembered, it's close to Clacton not Southend. Still worth a visit though.

Leigh on Sea has some good pubs/ restaurants around the fisherman's huts and stalls. You can walk along the estuary to get there and get the train back or vice versa. Saw The Charlatans at Chinnery's in Southend a couple of years ago and it's a cracking venue if there's anything on if you want a busman's holiday type thing!
