unless you buy the thick cut bacon which is readily available.

i like both smoked and unsmoked,but the fat must be crispy on either.

When I was a kid, there were no supermarkets, so your bacon was sliced off a flitch, and you could say how thick you wanted it.  It used to have a little bit of bone in it, which I found annoying, because you couldn't eat it, and was a fiddly thing to cut out.

The bacon slicer was a fine bit of kit....I'm sure they still must exist, but haven't seen one in years.
