I think its also important to get as much upfront as possible.
Rather that minimal upfront but millions in adds on

Well if they agree a nice price up front with us and everything is civil then that'll be the best we can hope for I guess...
Might help with some "brownie points" for some loan players too?

"No news on a contract for Alex Henshall?? Can't believe we would not try to retain him...
Does this mean he's being handed a shiny Man City contract instead, or am I reading into things too much too soon again?"
Open to being shot at here, of course but I can't help thinking Henshall would get more games for us if he did go to Man City and come back on loan than he would if he stayed here with a new contract. We do seem to be more willing to play other people's youngsters - who often don't seem to be all that good - than our own, Charlie excepted, of course.

Roger, that's a valid point. I was thinking along the same lines till something occurred to me.
If you play your own youngsters too soon, you might destroy their confidence and credibility at the club. A loan is a loan, and the player can always go back to his parent club (e.g. Tope) but when it's your own player, what do you do?
Maybe that's the logic, and you'd rather loan the player out to other clubs first to "test the water"?

Its sort of a fair point but then we dont seem to have many of the right age and stature to give a go in the 1st team. Macklin had chances last season and didnt always take them. So did Kennedy before he got injured.
I know theres an arguement of if you're good enough then you're old enough, but personally I think Henshall was still too young and weak to have been given a chance this season.
I thought Tope was shit, but at least he looked like a man rather than a boy

For the purposes of updating the original post... (I haven't trawled through the thread either) Is Macklin signed up for the new season?

His future is still up in the air, Wilson hasn't decided whether to give him a new contract or not yet.

Building at the back, George Graham would be delighted.

This seems to be coming together now. I'd say ten of the starting XI for the first game are signed up:
Lucas
Amankwaah Greer Cuthbert Rose
McGovern Douglas Prutton ?
Pericard Austin.
Hopefully none of them leave unless someone offers, in the parlance, "silly money". That looks like quite a tasty team to me.
