...is a scoreline I've enjoyed very much this season. It has happened four times now, all away from home at Carlisle, Brighton, Southampton and Hartlepool.

With this in mind, I calculated that if you took away Austin's goals, Swindon Town would be a massive 18 points worse off than they are currently. Earlier in the season we all bemoaned Town's inability to turn draws into victories but Austin's goals have gone a long way to eradicating this problem.

In the interests of fairness, I also calculated the points impact taking away Billy Paynter's goals would have had, and we'd be 13 points worse off. I have thought it a bit futile doing these calculations (a la 'where would we be if we didn't concede all the late goals') because other strikers would have played in their place and undoubtedly scored some goals.

The point really worth noting is that our excellent defence is putting us in a position where we can win tough games with one flash of Paynter/Austin brilliance. In the league we have kept 11 clean sheets (4 at home, 7 away) and these have led to 9 wins (3 at home, 6 away).

I may be stating the obvious to some people but if you build from the back, as Danny Wilson has, it will come- and it has! I cannot wait for the League One run in. If we go on to be successful this season then we'll need to show some more stubborn resiliance at the back with further tough away trips to Leeds, Colchester and Millwall.

1-0, Austin suits me just fine...

Yes...
Correct. I think Brighton at home might have been the first time. Not sure how many he's got there since.

1-0 to the Swindon Town. We're the new old Arsenal.

I  know I'm tempting the gods, but the last 4 games, 3 away from home we've only conceded 1 goal. To Norwich.

I  know I'm tempting the gods, but the last 4 games, 3 away from home we've only conceded 1 goal. To Norwich.

And three of those games have been without our first choice keeper, three without our top scorer and two and a half of them without arguably our best defender. A few weeks ago I was really worried about the depth of our squad, but looking at the strength of our bench yesterday - and seeing how well Smith, LJF, Easton, Marshall and Darby have slotted in when needed -  I'm beginning to feel a lot more optimistic.

Good times!
