You probably should have quizzed him about recovery then...!
I did, but his situation was different as he had a compound fracture which should take a lot longer to heal. I'm hoping to be fairly mobile after three weeks... Ah well, off to the Fracture Clinic tomorrow, I guess they will tell me what to expect.

Bearing in mind Southampton is on the 16th,(I make that 2 weeks not 3) I'd agree with Dr DMR's assessment.

I broke mine last September and was off work for 6 weeks followed by a week or so on light duties. Didnt stop me going to footy though. Just had to remember not to jump up and celebrate any goals!!!
As for driving it was about 4 weeks before I started again and even then it was a bit uncomfortable. I was told not to drive for about 5 to 6 weeks but got fed up catching the bus so started to drive anyway!

Thanks Crozzy. That's good to know. How did you break yours?

I've broken one several times. 4-6 weeks like others have said should be fine. Sometimes it seems to recover really quick, but don't take liberties with it because you'll regret it.

Well peeps, I had a check up at da hospital this morning and as well as a broken collar bone I also have a busted rib. Which means that there is no way I will be able to drive our minibus to Southampton on Tuesday. Can anyone volunteer or suggest anybody else who might take pity on us? You/they will need to meet this (or have a D1 on their licence if you/they still have the green version/old git etc): Exempted passenger carrying vehicles
Holders of a full category B (car) driving licence may drive any of the vehicles listed below:
* a passenger carrying vehicle manufactured more than 30 years before the date when it is driven and not used for hire or reward or for the carriage of more than 8 passengers * a minibus with up to 16 passenger seats provided the following conditions are met:
i. the vehicle is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body but not for hire or reward ii. the driver is aged 21 iii. the driver has held a car (category B) licence for at least 2 years iv. the driver is providing the service on a voluntary basis v. the minibus maximum weight is not more than 3.5 tonnes or 4.25 tonnes including any specialist equipment for the carriage of disabled passengers vi. if the driver is aged 70 or over, is able to meet the health standards for driving a D1 vehicle Several seats left by the way. £15 inc hire and diesel. Leave Swindon about 1pm. Bring your own booze.

For reference for anybody else that suffers this in the future... Last night at St Mary's the shoulder and the rib hurt like fuck. However, today there is almost no pain at all, I can even move my arm around a fair amount with no twinges. Great away wins obviously have beneficial side effects Either that or the booze sparked me out so much that I slept properly for a whole night - the first one since I did it. So two weeks and a day on it is much better. Can't drive or ride yet though, wouldn't want to risk screwing the healing bone bit up.
